!Steel Battalion / Steel Battalion : Line of Contact
!!Hai Shi Dao (HSD)

The original antagonists from the first game return as defiant separatists in Steel Battalion: Line of Contact. After two years of interim administration by the occupying Pacific Rim Forces provisional government, the inhabitants of Hai Shi Dao have launched a successful counterattack, driving their oppressors off the island nation. Hai Shi Dao patriots fight for freedom and independence from the Pacific Rim Forces governing council.

Hai Shi Dao [=VTs=] are generally geared towards long distance engagements and mountainous terrain. Hai Shi Dao fields the more support role [=VTs=] than all other factions combined, making them the faction of choice for complex strategy minded pilots. This faction also has access to the greatest number of third generation [=VTs=], but two of the three are very deficient in performance, even when compared to some second generation tanks.

--> Manufacturer : Lycoming Defense Systems
--> Class : Light
--> Generation : 1st

The venerable Vitzh is the oldest [=VT=] still in active service. The base platform was derived from construction materials transport units, which lend this unit its extraordinary stability specification. Originally conceived to be a supplementary armour force in areas of unsuitable terrain, this [=VT=] was proven reliable enough to eventually replace tracked tank battalions and paved the way for further development of the [=VT=] platform.

With a superior stability rating, this VT is nearly impossible to tip over and is often used in pilot training battalions. It is still field deployed as a scout and combat [=VT=] due to its minimal cost and superior field maintainability, however its equally minimal durability sometimes results in a low survival rate for its pilots. Armed with only the most minimal of weapon loadouts, this [=VT=] must be used in group attack formations in order to be effective.

* WeHaveReserves: Low Supply Point and Sortie Point cost.
* WhereItAllBegan: World's first mass-produced combat-capable V.T.

--> Manufacturer : Goodman
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 1st

Hai Shi Dao commanders quickly recognised the weaknesses of the Vitzh model when used in a close combat capacity and contacted several VT manufacturers to provide a complement [=VT=] for their forces. Instead of choosing a front-line combat [=VT=] model, the [=HSD=] command chose to augment their Vitzh scout/attack squadrons with artillery support role divisions.

Goodman manufacturing won the defense contract and designed the model GU-004-A Vortex. Initial prototypes were found to have mediocre primary weapon mounting hard-points, and due to an immediate need for field readiness, the model was rushed into production with the ability to mount only a minimal primary weapon loadout. Goodman did use some foresight in the design of this model by incorporating an outstanding torque profile. The superior torque specification allows this [=VT=] to quickly climb mountainous terrain or cross swampy expanses quickly, to either escape attackers, or relocate to difficult to access strategic positions.

Hai Shi Dao standard operating procedures call for the fielding of one Vortex for every two Vitzh units. While these rules are often bent liberally in the face of actual combat, they have been proven effective in numerous engagements against statistically superior foes. Potential Vortex pilots should be aware that support role piloting requires a substantially different mindset than for other [=VTs=] designed for direct combat.

* GlassCannon: The thing turned like garbage truck and must be supported by teammates. But its long-range rocket weapon choices is one of the most effective long-range support out of all first generation machines.

--> Manufacturer : Lycoming Defense Systems
--> Class : Light
--> Generation : 1st

After the astounding success of the Goodman Scare Face model, Lycoming was left with a large warehoused surplus of standard Vitzh units, but very little market interest in their, now quite dated, [=VT=] model. To try and offset the potential financial loss, the design engineers at Lycoming D.S. retrofitted a standard Vitzh model with additional armour modules, updated the cockpit systems, made hydraulics and drive-train tweaks, and upgraded the weapons mounting hard points to allow more armaments to be added to the platform. Thus, the Vitzh modified, or m-Vitzh, was born.

Lycoming sweetened their offer by providing the option to have already fielded Vitzh units receive the modification upgrades at minimal cost. Many division commanders exercised this option only to find that the improvements to the platform where minimal, and performance gained was not enough to even remotely consider the m-Vitzh as a capable role replacement for the Scare Face model. Once again, the m-Vitzh was relegated to scout or escort duty, with frontline combat only being considered when multiple units were available to be assigned as a group.

--> Manufacturer : Goodman
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 1st

After recurring high losses in Vitzh units Hai Shi Dao commanders realised they needed a more durable and maneuverable battlefield presence to turn the tide of the war in their favour. Goodman Manufacturing, already having proven themselves with the Vortex, had the Scare Face design completed and rolling off the assembly lines in less than three months, far exceeding the expectations of [=HSD=] command. Designed to be a medium to long range general combat platform, the Scare Face made a sniper rifle option available to select [=HSD=] battalions, thus giving them an unmatched presence on the battlefield. Unfortunately, the target selection software would not support the extreme range of the sniper rifle, thus requiring a manual targeting software patch be added to the operating system.

The designers also perfected the underbody mounting hardpoints to allow a triple proximity grenade weapon to be optionally fitted. In concert with the recoilless rifles, the grenades finally allowed [=HSD=] commanders to field effective "anti-Falchion" platoons despite the [=PRF=] platform's speed and handling advantages. Best fielded in pairs, the Scare Face gives [=HSD=] forces the ability to go toe-to-toe with Decider units.

--> Manufacturer : Goodman
--> Class : Light
--> Generation : 1st

Having incurred high losses during the Xen Feng Tian Plains Offensive due to Falchion light attack units, Hai Shi Dao command began looking for a comparable match to the [=PRF=] threat. Initially, Lycoming Defense Systems was contacted to determine whether their Vitzh or m-Vitzh platforms could be upgraded to the necessary speed and handling characteristics to counter the Falchion. Unfortunately, Lycoming [=D.S.=] had already disbanded their Vitzh design team and was unwilling to support the platform beyond basic maintenance services, much less re-open research and development. Goodman Manufacturing once again stepped up and exceeded expectations by offering a modified Scare Face platform optimized for speed and reconnaissance.

Although sharing a name with the conventional Scare Face model, the Scare Face [=A1=] is optimized for a completely different battlefield role. In order to allow for the necessary speed and veering performance gains a large quantity of armour plating was minimized or altogether removed. In particular, the leg shields had been completely eliminated, which made the center of gravity much higher, lending to balancer issues. Armament options remained the same, including the sniper rifle option, making this the [=VT=] of choice to deploy for both artillery reconnaissance and strategic sniping missions. Owing to its Scare Face parentage, the [=A1=] is not quite as fast as the Falchion, but is more durable and has much better torque, and can be effectively deployed in mountainous regions if necessary.

--> Manufacturer : Goodman
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 2nd

The advent of second generation VT technology happened nearly simultaneously across all three warring factions. The reasons for this may never be completely understood, but the net result was a continued balance of power across all three factions VT models.

Goodman Manufacturing capitalized upon the success of the original Scare Face name and introduced the Scare Face [=II=]. Actually built upon a hybrid support chassis, the model has extraordinary stability and torque for its size.

The Hai Shi Dao fielded the Scare Face [=II=] for the first time as emergency reinforcements during the Ta Jong Fields Offensive in November 2084. The wreckage of retreating [=PRF=] units burned brightly in the icy windswept fields as the [=HSD 23rd VT=] regiment secured Hai Shi Dao's victory. The effectiveness of this VT was instantly apparent with its addition of an even more powerful and longer range sniper rifle option, the 370-SR. Combined with [=VT=] guided missiles and the improvements of the 2nd generation VT operating system (F.S.S. and System Safeties Override) this model proved to be very proficient in ranged battles and was deployed in numerous theatres of conflict throughout the remainder of the campaign.

* MacrossMissileMassacre: Can be equipped with launchers to serves as long-range missile boat.
* SniperRifle

--> Manufacturer : Goodman
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 2nd

The Maelstrom support [=VT=] was designed to be the replacement of the highly successful Vortex model. All of the second generation [=VT=] advancements (override, F.S.S. and greater countermeasures loadouts) where incorporated into its design. The most significant upgrades that this model received was the ability to mount a version of the Multiple Launch Rocket system as well as a larger howitzer (the 550-HW). Unfortunately, Goodman product marketing pushed for the release of the model before sufficient field testing and design integration had been performed, and as a result, this model suffers in a number of key areas. For one, it has one of the lowest durability ratings of the entire second generation [=VT=] class, only slightly better than a Vortex model. This is primarily due to the usage of the Scare Face armour augmentation design (as can be seen in the profile of the leg shields and fuselage ablative mounts). The second drawback of the Maelstrom platform is in its close range primary weapon loadout, only differing from the Vortex in the ability to mount a slightly heavier machine gun.

What Goodman did get right was the torque performance profile. Advancements in drivetrain materials as well as optimal positioning of the powerplant give this [=VT=] outstanding low range power and adverse terrain capabilities. For this reason alone, Hai Shi Dao commanders favoured the deployment of Maelstrom units along the entire Er Ting range to hold strategic passes and bases.

The Maelstrom saw first combat during the battle for Wa Lo Pass in the Er Ting foothills in December 2084. Deployed out of reach of the attacking [=PRF=] Decider forces, the 7th Artillery Support division was able to keep the attackers suppressed and immobile while Scare Face forces cut off their retreat path. 34 prisoners of war were taken and their [=VTs=] captured intact when the Decider units were found attempting to avoid artillery fire under assault ramparts and against the canyon walls.

* FragileSpeedster: Has low armor points. While not the fastest [=VT=], it can still easily traverse mountainous terrain without losing speed.
* NecessaryDrawback: High sortie cost. Basically, try not to die or consider other [=VT=] options.

--> Manufacturer : Lycoming Defense Systems
--> Class : Heavy
--> Generation : 2nd

Hai Shi Dao commanders had proven the distance combat concept on the battlefield many times by the start of the second year of the conflict. Unfortunately, all of the support artillery platforms to date had been relatively delicate in terms of durability. In particular, flat terrain engagements often found support units being flanked and destroyed far more often than would normally be expected. The [=HSD=] initially looked to Goodman to produce a more durable artillery platform based on their Maelstrom model, but by this time, Goodman design engineers were deep in the development of the Garpike model and could not spare resources for the project. Strangely enough, Lycoming Defense Systems won the contract to build the heavy support platform, which was a great departure from their previous products, which until this time had included only the Vitzh and m-Vitzh models.

Lycoming [=D.S.=] knew that the Behemoth model would need extraordinary durability to survive in a combat environment where encounters with the [=PRF=] railgun were now becoming more common. Additionally, the platform needed to be able to mount an impressive amount of support weaponry. The resulting design incorporated an armour rating unlike any [=VT=] which had ever been fielded before, almost three times as durable (and twice as large) as any other second generation [=VT=] fielded at that time. Mounted onto the hulking chassis were some of the most destructive support weapons ever devised, giving the Behemoth an unmatched distance standoff capability.

Due to the rarity (and expense) of the platform, Behemoth pilots must undergo a rigorous selection process and supplemental training to ensure that they can utilize the [=VT=] to its fullest capabilities. Further, Behemoths are never fielded without a support platoon of Scare Face [=II=] units.

The Behemoth saw its first battlefield deployment in February of 2085 in defense of the port city of Lo Pei. Five units (plus their support platoons) were able to successfully repel amphibious Jaralaccs Mercenaries by sending 12 landing craft to the bottom before the assaulting forces were called to retreat.

* SuperToughness: Behemoth bucks the trend of "fragile artillery [=VTs=]" with its durability being second only to the Earthshaker. It is also very tall, making it harder to hide among trees.

--> Manufacturer : Goodman
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 2nd

The Garpike model was developed to answer the continued problem of close range encounters with [=PRF=] Prominence units. The Scare Face [=II=] retained some of its long range effectiveness despite the introduction of the railgun, but could not compete in pitched melee battles with the core [=PRF=] assault models.

Discarding their distanced battle design philosophy, Goodman manufacturing made their best attempt at developing an close range assault VT despite their lack of experience in the genre. Due to [=HSD=]'s very short timescales for requested deployment, Goodman based the core Garpike design off of the Scare Face II platform.

This is where the similarity ended.

Goodman knew that the Garpike would be required to go toe-to-toe with plasma torch wielding units and decided to go one better in their development of a melee weapon for their new design. The Bang Needle was perhaps the most frightening and destructive melee weapon ever mounted on a [=VT=] platform (and the only one ever on an [=HSD VT=]). An utterly intimidating weapon, the Bang Needle was designed to pierce enemy [=VT=] armour and then detonate shaped charges within its hull, usually resulting in total vehicle loss. To compliment its melee weaponry, the Garpike was outfitted with several rapid fire assault rifle options, an anti-[=VT=] minelayer and a flamethrower. Additionally, general chassis performance enhancements were made to the drivetrain, veering capabilities and structural durability.

* CloseRangeCombatant
* CripplingOverspecialization: Meet anything with long-range weapons in open areas and Garpike's a toast.
* ExtremeMeleeRevenge: To quote a player;
--> A Plasma Torch is like poking with a stick and tipping them over. A Bang Needle is like hurling a gigantic spike at someone at 200kph and watching the bloody chaos that ensues.
* InnocentInnuendo: It's built-in close range weapon Bang Needle, which penetrates enemy VT and then explode inside...
* MeaningfulName: Named after a kind of fish.
* UniqueEnemy: In Campaign mode, Garpike units are extraordinarily rare and almost never encountered. Rough estimates based on serial numbers quoted by various players put the maximum number of Garpikes in circulation under 400.

--> Manufacturer : Lycoming Defense Systems
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 3rd

Despite being the first company to build a fully battle capable Vertical Tank, Lycoming [=D.S.=] designed relatively few production models using [=1st=] or [=2nd=] generation technologies. After manufacturing processes for the Behemoth were finalised, Lycoming closed down all other [=2nd=] generation research and focused on the development of [=3rd=] generation Vertical Tanks. Lycoming is credited with the first viable [=3rd=] generation operating system, developed under the name RIALTO. The Regal Dress series was built to take advantage of the [=3rd=] generation advancements, and in order to capitalize on their substantial research investment, Lycoming produced two variants of the platform, the assault model Regal Dress N, and the artillery support model A.

Unlike its sibling model, the Regal Dress A is designed to be used solely as an artillery support unit. The wisdom of this design application is questionable due to the limited advantages that 3rd generation technology lends to support role [=VTs=]. The combat role of the Regal Dress A is very limited, and similar to that of the Behemoth, but without the Behemoths durability or massive loadout capabilities. The only improvement upon the Behemoths performance is an improved mobility and speed, qualities which are less important for a support role [=VT=].

Like the Regal Dress N, the Regal A is often used for city defense forces. It has also seen limited use in fast attack divisions in a rear line support role in flat terrain battle environments.

* TheScrappy: Plays like a Behemoth without the massive durability. Expensive to purchase and field.

--> Manufacturer : Lycoming Defense Systems
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 3rd

The Regal Dress N was designed as a front line assault model, mounting a variety of 3rd generation weapons. The Regal Dress combat platform was initially designed to accommodate an electromagnetic launcher system, but power waveguide limitations similar to those suffered by the Prominence series cropped up and could not be resolved in time for the projected release date. To compensate for this oversight, Lycoming [=D.S.=] licensed Goodmans sniper rifle technology and [=OS=] sub-module as an optional weapon for the Regal Dress N. Additionally, a variety of self-guided and direct fire missile systems are included.

The Regal Dress N is a very capable assault [=VT=] in the hands of an experienced pilot. Its nimble handling and superior speed make it very dangerous against slower [=VTs=]. The Regal Dress N is only lacking in its durability rating, which is only slightly better than that of a Garpike or Siegeszug. It is for this reason that [=HSD=] command only allows pilots of superior ability to field Regal Dress N [=VTs=], they must be able to properly utilize their advanced weaponry AND keep the vehicle out of harms way.

The Hai Shi Dao uses Regal Dress series [=VTs=] as its mainline platform for resident city defense forces. Over 80 units guard the capitol city of Xin Feng Tian and have seen action a number of times in its defense against both Pacific Rim Forces and Right Brothers attackers. Regal Dress N units are also the preferred [=VT=] of division commanders and have been encountered in this role in several theaters of operation.

* FragileSpeedster: Of 3rd generation machines.

--> Manufacturer : Lycoming Defense Systems
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 3rd

The Juggernaut was conceived to be the premiere assault model [=VT=] for the Hai Shi Dao forces, who intended on using it to replace their capable, but flawed, Regal Dress N divisions. The numerous design inadequacies of the first mass production 3rd generation [=VT=] had resulted in a a platform which was expensive to produce and maintain, but gave minimal battlefield effectiveness.

Lycoming [=D.S.=] advanced engineering teams established their research facilities in the Lao Tsu subterranean fortress, located in the Er Win mountain range on the south western penninsula of Hai Shi Dao Island. A security detachment of Hai Shi Dao [=VTs=] was assigned to maintain secrecy and security during the project. Unfortunately, Pacific Rim Forces operatives had already infiltrated agents into the support staff of the base and were able to regularly report upon the progress of the ongoing [=VT=] development.

By May of 2085 the design team had managed to construct a fully operational prototype model and begun testing and refining the platform further. Intelligence reports back to [=PRF=] command of the prototypes performance greatly worried executive staff, [=PRF=] could not then field a VT which would be a capable match for the Juggernaut design. Even the impressive Prominence [=M3=] [=VT=] would be dominated by this new design. In order to acquire the necessary technology to stay in the war, [=PRF=] command authorised a covert attack on the research facility with the intent of stealing the prototype schematics. On the night of June 2nd, 2085, a combined force of [=PRF=] commandos and Jaralaccs Mercenaries stormed the subterranean fortress where Lycoming was designing the Juggernaut. After a quick but bloody firefight, the PRF commandos secured the base and retrieved a copy of the prototype plans from the fortress mainframe. In order to set back development as much as possible, the attackers destroyed all the labs and research materials they could find, as well as "neutralising" all the scientists present at the facility that evening. [=PRF=] went on to develop the Quasar from the stolen design.

Despite the enormous setback incurred by the raiders attack, the Hai Shi Dao was resolute on having the project brought to completion. Lycoming [=D.S.=] dispatched additional research teams to pick up where their deceased comrades left off, as well as affirm their position against the belligerent [=PRF=] faction.

The resulting Juggernaut design is one of the most advanced VT platforms ever fielded. It incorporates several advanced missile systems, as well as having a loadout weight potential unmatched by any other [=VT=]. Unaugmented, it may mount dual electromagnetic launcher systems and a standard complement of weapons and still have weight to spare. Although similar to the Quasar, the Juggernaut differs in that it is more oriented towards a distance combat role.

As with all third generation [=VTs=], Juggernaut models are very rare and reserved for officers or special operations units only. It is rumoured that Hai Shi Dao command has developed a transport helicopter capable of air-dropping Juggernaut models into battle. Although never confirmed, it is thought these units would be used to deploy Juggernauts to defend the capitol city if invading forces ever penetrated the city defenses.

* GrandTheftPrototype: Its development data is subject to one by P.R.C.
* MoreDakka: Can dual mount railguns or other main weapons and still remains under standard load allowance.

!!Pacific Rim Forces (PRF)

Pacific Rim Forces were the protagonists of the original Steel Battalion game. They return in Line of Contact as invading oppressors wishing to reinstate their governmental control on the breakaway nation of Hai Shi Dao. Unlike the previous conflict in which PRF was the rightful crusader, the current scenario portrays the faction in a ruthless light, with total domination and iron-fisted rule being the order of the day.

Pacific Rim Forces field a number of VTs which are designed to be multi-role combat platforms, as well as several specialized fast-attack models. The direct combat mindset is further enforced by the melee weapon options that nearly half of their models possess. Most of their [=VTs=] are designed for close combat engagements and do not handle well on adverse terrain but cannot be matched in open field combat. [=PRF=] has access to the greatest number of Rail Gun capable [=VT=]s, in the form of the Prominence M2 and Prominence M3.

--> Manufacturer : Komatsu Land Systems
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 1st
Knowing that their amphibious landing forces would be facing a variety of terrain types and combat situations, the Pacific Rim Forces command commissioned Komatsu Land Systems to create a balanced VT model which would be versatile enough to handle nearly any scenario. The answer to this request was the M-7-D-B Decider, a multi-role combat platform which far exceeded expectations for performance and effectiveness in the field. Initially designed to be a mid-range combat VT, the attack chassis profile was found to be compatible for mounting plasma torch melee weaponry, the addition of which made these VTs greatly feared by enemy forces.

There have been numerous reports of enemy units turning to run rather than face Decider pilots in close quarters combat. Extraordinarily strong primary weapon mountings allow this VT to arm the 315-TR twin rifle, a terrifying destructive short-to-mid range dual sabot weapon. The combination of these two weapons, the maneuverability and durability of the chassis and a respectable selection of secondary weapon offerings make this the VT of choice for PRF pilots.

Possibly one of the most successful VT models ever created, this VT can fulfill close combat, escort and scout roles and is only at a deficit when challenged with long distance capable opponents.

* JackOfAllTrades: As with most of PRC [=VTs=].
** NecessaryDrawback: Lacks grenade and missile options, forcing it to rely on chaingun sub-weapon.

--> Manufacturer : W.M.
--> Class : Light
--> Generation : 1st
WM as a manufacturer specialised in unique attack designs, both light and heavy, in their product lines. The Falchion was a perfect match for the [=PRF=] mentality of lightning victories and high mobility units. After establishing their initial beachhead on Hai Shi Dao Island with amphibious Decider assault units, [=PRF=] command deployed the 81st Special Reconnaissance Battalion, composed primarily of Falchion light attack [=VTs=]. Hoping for a rapid push inward to the Xen Fen Tian capitol, Falchion units were favoured over their Decider counterparts in the early clashes of the war, but the tenacity of the [=HSD=] defenders was grossly underestimated and the unpredictable terrain proved difficult for this model.

As a fast attack and reconnaissance platform, the Falchion is unmatched in the 1st generation [=VT=] class. Its massive speed and equally minimal stability require a deft hand on the controls. Initially deployed as scouts, Falchions were found to be superior hit-and-run platforms and were often employed when the anticipated battle arena was relatively flat. Falchions are armed with relatively light, close-range weaponry, and by design they cannot carry very much ammunition or fuel. Low torque and durability are the platform's primary drawbacks. An example of this can be found from early in the conflict. Despite WM operational guidelines not to deploy the Falchion in hilly environments, [=PRF=] command sent a Falchion platoon to root out some entrenched Vortex units in the Er Ting range. Despite superior numbers, the entire unit was annihilated.

* GlassCannon: As it was designed as fast attack and reconnaissance unit.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Low balancer rating (2nd from lowest, next to Scare Face A1), meaning it can easily topple over if it gets tackled or not driven carefully.

--> Manufacturer : Komatsu Land Systems
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 1st

Despite being focused on directed forward assault tactics, the Pacific Rim Forces commanders recognised the threat posed by the [=HSD=] Vortex and its artillery options. Hoping that Komatsu L.S. could come through with the same level of success they had with their standard Decider model, [=PRF=] awarded the support VT contract to them without even considering other suppliers. [=WM=] in particular had a heavy class prototype hybrid assault/support design which seemed very promising, though it was not taken into consideration. Unfortunately, support role design was not a strength of Komatsu and the Volcanic design suffered for it.

The Decider Volcanic is based on the standard Decider platform, but with reduced armour plating in certain areas in order to allow for the structural enhancements necessary to accommodate support armament mountings. In keeping with the direct assault mindset of all the rest of Komatsu's products, the Volcanic incorporates a rifle option, but as with the standard Decider, does not mount any missile or grenade weaponry.

The single greatest pilot complaint feedback has been regarding the extraordinarily low torque rating of the Decider Volcanic. As of a result of this drawback, the Decider Volcanic can be difficult to properly deploy in mountainous terrain, which just happens to be the best environment for artillery deployment. Combined with an equally low balancer rating, the Decider Volcanic is difficult to pilot except on flat terrain.

* AwesomeButImpractical: The Volcanic sounded like a viable gen 1 artillery [=VT=] until you starts climbing hills...

--> Manufacturer : W.M.
--> Class : Light
--> Generation : 2nd

WM carved out a unique niche for itself with their Falchion light attack platform. With the advent of second generation [=VT=] technology, WM immediately set out to develop their next light attack [=VT=]. Initial designs where hampered by limitations in balancer functionality due to the override capabilities of second generation technology. The Blade platform was delayed into production until balancer technology could catch up to the intended performance of the [=VT=] design.

The Blade is one of the most nimble [=VTs=] on the battlefield. Its light armour and high-cycle tuned turbine system allow it to reach astonishing land speeds on flat terrain. The light armouring allows it to be airdropped into combat zones. The Blade is primarily used in flat terrain battle theatres but may also be used as a scout platform. Its low armour rating gives it a rather diminished survivability when compared to other second generation [=VTs=], but if placed in the hands of an experienced pilot it can be kept out of harms way and still mete out respectable damage.

The Blade was first deployed in December 2084 on the La Shi Fen plains against rear guard Hai Shi Dao forces retreating from the Qua Lo Fortress. Using their superior mobility, Blade units were able to cull individual Scare Face II and Maelstrom units from the main body force and either destroy or capture them.

Filling the shoes of the [=M7=] Decider as the primary assault platform of the Pacific Rim Forces was a tall order. Komatsu Land Systems spent millions in research and development costs to ensure that their successor [=VT=] was up to the demanding specifications of the [=PRF=] executive staff. The resulting [=VT=] proved to be one of the most versatile designs ever fielded in the history of vertical tank combat.

Komatsu L.S. retained the best aspects of their Decider design when creating the Prominence [=M1=]. [=PRF=] pilots had become accustomed to close range combat and the [=M1=] design did not disappoint with the ability to mount both the original [=205-PT=] plasma torch as well as the more powerful [=22b-PT=]. In order to maintain an even footing with the seeking missile options recently deployed by the [=HSD=] (in the form of the Scare Face II's [=PZ-MIS=]) the designers incorporated the [=AS-MIS=], a slightly less damaging missile, but with greater speed to target. The designers originally planned to incorporate an electromagnetic launcher system on the [=M1=] but the power waveguide system of the [=VT=] could not be sufficiently upgraded prior to the production line start of the model. Problems with self-shutdown and ruptured batteries were the primary concerns.

The Prominence [=M1=] was first field deployed as amphibious landing forces in the siege of the Xan Fong Lian Harbour in December 2084.

--> Manufacturer : W.M.
--> Class : Light
--> Generation : 2nd

During the second year of the Hai Shi Dao conflict, the Pacific Rim Forces high command inquired to the possibility of an "instructor" model [=VT=] for their training battalion commanders. Requirements for this new [=VT=] were that it be highly mobile and able to demonstrate melee combat techniques to pilot trainees. During the research phase of the Blade [=VT=], a hybrid design of the platform, dubbed the Rapier, was drawn up that incorporated all of the Blade's maneuverability, as well as the melee combat and demonstration/instructor capabilities requested. To make the Rapier model truly unique, [=WM=] incorporated a high voltage melee weapon, the Stun Rod, capable of temporarily overloading the control systems of any [=VT=] it comes in contact with whilst deployed, resulting in the immediate shutdown of the targeted [=VT=].

Built along most of the same design philosophies as the Blade, the Rapier exceeds its parent model in nearly all specifications. The key exception here is its balancer rating, which is slightly less. This makes it one of the most difficult [=VTs=] to properly control and as such is limited to pilots of instructor rating or better. As with all instructor materials, Rapier models are very limited in supply and generally do not see true combat action unless under dire conditions.

Rapier models are not deployed into combat arenas except under extraordinary circumstances. The most notable combat experience for a Rapier model happened during the February 2085 assault on the Ren Shei training base by Right Brothers guerilla forces. The base perimeter was overrun without warning by attacking Yellow Jackets and Siegeszugs. Three instructors were able to get into their [=VTs=] and deploy before the hangar was destroyed. Between the three pilots, there were over 14 shutdown and captured [=VTs=] as well as 9 destroyed units. Although [=PRF=] material loss was great, the base was not captured by RB forces. All three pilots received special commendations from [=PRF=] command.

* FragileSpeedster: Fastest [=VT=] in the game full stop. It also came with light armor and horrid torque rating of 2.0.

--> Manufacturer : Komatsu Land Systems
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 2nd

The Prominence M2 was the forward progression of the Prominence [=M1=] design. Komatsu L.S. originally intended for the [=M1=] to be capable of mounting an electromagnetic launcher (railgun) but could never solve all the power routing problems until the [=M2=] model. In order to ensure that the power waveguide system could properly buffer the extreme energies required by the launcher, the plasma torch power taps were removed from the design.

Pacific Rim Forces line commanders had long desired a [=VT=] platform which could be used as a keystone to attack formations. The Prominence M2 was designed with this criteria in mind, incorporating optional armour modules with supplementary close range missile launchers, a first in [=VT=] history. The optional armour modules enabled the [=M2=] to survive potentially crippling damage as well as give it additional close range punch. The only negative was the weight of all the added armour and integrated EM launcher. It cut veering efficiency nearly in half and made the platform sluggish to handle and tippy. In order to try and remedy the balance issues, engineers grafted a counterbalance inertial damping wing to offset the tremendous forces generated by the railgun.

It is interesting to note that Hai Shi Dao target analysis databases did not intially recognise the [=M2=] as a different model from the M1, which caused quite a surprise when the units were first engaged on the battlefield.

* MacrossMissileMassacre: Come attached with a fixed armor module that can be equipped optionally. The players can also detach it mid-battle in exchange for lighter [=VT=] weight.
* MagneticWeapons: One of the first [=VT=] to mount one. During round 1, turn 5 in real gameplay it brought many frustration to opposing players as other factions did not have railgun-capable machines yet.

--> Manufacturer : Komatsu Land Systems
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 2nd
Following the lukewarm success of the Prominence M2, Komatsu L.S.. set out to correct all of the issues reported with the powerful, yet troubled, assault VT. Starting over again with a core Prominence M1 frame, Komatsu design engineers used feedback and design review data to perfect the resulting M3 platform. The entire power waveguide system was enhanced to allow tremendous energy handling, both the plasma torch and railgun could be simultaneously mounted. The optional armour and missile pod options from the M2 model were retained, but modified to weigh nearly a third less and still have the same defensive capacity. Finally, in response to a request for an artillery option, the platform may also mount a limited howitzer subweapon making it a highly versatile and powerful VT.

The cost of all of the advancements and improvements was a shortage in the necessary components to actually produce the platform en masse. As a result, the priviledge to pilot the Prominence M3 was often limited to battalion commanders or pilots of exceptional skill. When compared to the M2, the M3 is a vast improvement across the board, particularly in its stabiliser and veering specifications. The counterbalance inertial damping wing was no longer required, which added to both mobility and a reduction in target profile.

The Prominence M3 was first fielded in July of 2085 but did not see direct action until August during the assault of the Xen Feng Tian Supply Base. Prominence M3 units continue to be successfully fielded to this day.

--> Generation : 3rd
Shortly after the first Regal Dress VTs rolled off the production line, Lycoming D.S. began working on new VT for the Hai Shi Dao which would not have the power transfer problems that prevented the Regal N from equipping the electromagnetic launcher. This design would eventually become the Juggernaut, but the story of its development was more troubled than any other in VT history.

When Lycoming D.S. began testing their first Juggernaut prototype, Pacific Rim Forces covert operatives reported the astounding performance of the VT back to PRF Intelligence. Pacific Rim Forces command immediately recognised the threat that the Juggernaut model posed and put a plan into motion that they hoped would maintain the balance of power. In the middle of the night on June 2nd, 2085, a combined force of PRF commandos and Jaralaccs Mercenaries stormed the subterranean fortress where Lycoming was designing the Juggernaut. After overrunning the Hai Shi Dao defenses and securing the base laboratories, PRF intel specialists copied the design schematics for the Juggernaut. Unbeknownst to their PRF allies, the mercenaries also infiltrated intel gathering teams with the intent to gather marketable information on the 3rd generation electromagnetic launcher.

The VT produced from the stolen design was dubbed the Quasar. Pacific Rim Forces VT production engineers were able to modify the platform to accommodate a plasma torch option, in keeping with the mandate for VTs with melee capabilities. The resulting VT could now mount both PRF plasma torch options, which combined with 3rd generation override technologies allow the weapon to be repeatedly deployed without overheating the battery charging systems. Because the plans were stolen prior to the finalisation of the stabiliser and armour augmentation designs, the Quasar suffers from a finicky balancer and a slightly reduced durability when compared to the Juggernaut, but is still superior to any 2nd generation VT fielded by the PRF, HSD or Right Brothers.

The Quasar is an excellent 3rd generation VT, and the only one of its class fielded by the Pacific Rim Forces. It is typically used as a command model for PRF senior officers. Its high mobility and frightening speed make it a very formidable opponent. The Quasar was first deployed in August 2085 during the battle for the Yu Gi delta lowlands against defending Right Brothers forces.

!!Right Brothers (RB)

The Right Brothers are a splinter faction from the Hai Shi Dao which appear in the Third Turn of each Round. Located in the Northern Central highlands of the Hai Shi Dao island, the Right Brothers faction specializes in guerrilla warfare tactics and resistance strategies to keep their ancestral homeland free from outsiders.

Right Brothers self-produced VTs are slightly less combat capable than the mass production models of the Hai Shi Dao or Pacific Rim Forces. The Right Brothers have limited production capabilities in their separatist state and rely on outside VT suppliers to augment their combat forces. Excepting externally sourced VTs, every Right Brothers VT is capable of mounting a Marker Launcher which is an invaluable reconnaissance tool.

Pilots for the Right Brothers are seen as devout individualists who fight for freedom and the right to live out from under external rule.

The Right Brothers entered into the conflict late after seizing upon the PRF invasion as an opportunity to exercise their separatist agenda. The Right Brothers faction was located in the Northern Central Highlands of Hai Shi Dao Island and is crosscut with both the Er Ting and Qua Long mountain ranges and the Jaccala Woodlands, a swampy expanse of coastal shallows and scrub brush forest.

Having no military forces of their own, the Right Brothers obtained schematics for the HSD m-Vitzh and tailored them to their own needs. Knowing that they would be fighting on difficult topographies, Right Brothers engineers completely rebuilt the drive train to triple the torque capabilities while maintaining a superior stability rating. Due to the minimal line-of-sight terrain on which their forces would be fighting, RB armament research & development came up with an electronic radar-tagging projectile, the Marker Launcher (MKR-LA). This allowed radar locating of enemy forces and gave Right Brothers pilots the edge they needed to launch their guerrilla tactics.

* YouDontLookLikeYou: A Vitzh with better torque performance, ability to mount Marker Launcher and higher point costs.

The Colt Executive was created for platoon commanders to give them a higher survivability and greater battlefield capabilities. The Colt Executive is essentially a standard Colt model with enhanced armour, weapons mounting options, and minor drive train tweaks to achieve maximum platform performance. The addition of the 315-SB smoothbore cannon allows this model to keep opponents at arms length and the DP-MIS and T-GND triple grenade options let it counter Falchion or Scare Face A1 fast attack units.

Due to the additional time and resources necessary to produce the Executive model, production capacity is limited. These units are only to be fielded by experienced pilots due to their reduced stability rating and more advanced weaponry options.

--> Manufacturer : Right Brothers
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 2nd

By the start of the second year of the conflict the Right Brothers had successfully established their autonomous state in north central highlands and coastal area of Hai Shi Dao island. The Colt and Colt Executive models had proven themselves more than capable of mounting an effective guerilla defense against both the invading Pacific Rim Forces and the governing Hai Shi Dao authority, but with the introduction of second generation VT technology, the Right Brothers immediately began the production of their own medium assault platform.

The Yellow Jacket was designed to be a multirole combat platform, much like the Prominence M1. The Right Brothers did maximise the torque profile to ensure that the model could perform in the mountainous and swampy terrain of their breakaway state. In keeping with their doctrine of guerilla warfare, the Yellow Jacket can mount the Marker Launcher, effectively allowing any pilot to perform electronic reconnaissance.

The Yellow Jacket does not mount any guided missile weapons, unlike its PRF and HSD counterpart models. This was rationalised by the Yellow Jacket designers as being an unnecessary and ineffective weapon option to deploy on a VT which would likely only be used in hilly terrain, and thus no long distance line of sight engagements would be anticipated. This decision seemed logical until the Right Brothers governing body decided to push their offensive onto the Xen Feng Tian plains. Encounters with enemy forces on flat, open terrain found the Yellow Jacket at a distinct disadvantage. This shortcoming was eventually addressed with the introduction of the Siegeszug.

The Yellow Jacket was not combat deployed until January 2085, however it is rumoured that 3 units where deployed as covert surveillance units during the battle for Wa Lo Pass along the Er Ting foothills during December 2084.

* NecessaryDrawback: No missiles options in compensation for being cheaper to deploy than most multi-role [=VTs=] of its class.

--> Manufacturer : Right Brothers
--> Class : Light

As the close of the first year of the Hai Shi Dao conflict approached, the Right Brothers had suffered numerous defeats in battles with both the Hai Shi Dao and the Pacific Rim Forces. The superior distance engagment and close combat capabilities of each respective faction could not be overcome by the VTs then fielded by the Right Brothers military. Time and again, the only tactic that consistently worked for the Right Brothers was guerrilla combat. With this in mind, the Electronic Warfare R & D team set out to create a VT with abilities that could upset the balance of power in their favour.

The Sheepdog is a highly sophisticated mobile Electronic Warfare and Surveillance platform developed with top-secret radar and infrared sensor technologies. All modern Vertical Tanks are equipped with radar suppression coatings, ablative hull structures, and shielded exhaust ports which minimise their thermal and radar return signatures. The surveillance electronics package mounted on the Sheepdog uses a sophisticated combination of signal focus and amplification technology to overcome standard VT stealth technologies. Accompanying the advanced surveillance features is a broad-spectrum communications intercept and decrypt package which allows enemy communications to be covertly monitored. The expense and complexity of the electronics package outfitted on the Sheepdog makes it a very costly VT to deploy, and thus quite rare to find in normal field operations. Sheepdog units are typically deployed by scout and recon squadrons in support of primary combat forces.

The first known Sheepdog deployment has not been declassified for general public dissemination at this time. It has been suggested that a prototype model was present with covert Yellow Jacket units during the battle for Wa Lo Pass along the Er Ting foothills during December 2084.

* FragileSpeedster: The cheapest and weakest V.T. Definitely not the one to use if you're looking for direct combat.

--> Manufacturer : Oktaeder
--> Class : Medium
--> Generation : 2nd

Although no one ever doubted the resourcefulness of the Right Brothers, their production capabilities were limited throughout their separatist campaign. Not surprisingly, Right Brothers defense suppliers were not opposed to purchasing from third party Vertical Tank producers. Realising that their Yellow Jacket model was seriously hampered when faced with open terrain combat, the Right Brothers jumped at the chance to acquire the Siegeszug design from Oktaeder.

Oktaeder was one of the first non-politically aligned companies to produce Vertical Tanks for the world market. Initially a developer of heavy mining and excavation equipment, Oktaeder was able to apply their knowledge of high performance hydrolics and precision German engineering to produce an extraordinarily durable Vertical Tank platform.

The Siegeszug was built to be a complement to the Yellow Jacket during flatland engagements. Mounting several missile options, as well as a deployable defensive shield, the Siegeszug is a fearsome opponent at any distance.

The Siegeszug saw its first combat action in March of 2085 during the second Xian Feng Tian plains offensive against Hai Shi Dao city defenses. Although some outlying suburbs were captured in the action, the position could not be held due to insecure supply lines. Siegeszug units maintained a defensive line during the withdrawal, the result of which was no losses for the retreating forces.

* JackOfAllTrades: A general assault [=VT=] geared to complement Yellow Jacket in flatland combat.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Siegeszug come equipped with Shield Binder which can be flipped forward to absorb enemy fire at the cost of not being able to fire primary weapons.

--> Manufacturer : Oktaeder
--> Class : Heavy
--> Generation : 3rd

After the successful launch of their first VT platform, Oktaeder appeared to have retired from new VT development and be content with limited Siegeszug production and the licensing of their hydrolics technology to other VT manufacturers. The truth was far removed from the complacement facade being presented to the public. Oktaeders senior management had called for the creation of a VT which would be capable of "nothing less than total battlefield domination." The VT designers were given an unlimited research and development budget, as well as access to the latest in third generation VT technology advancements. Design specifications for the 3rd generation type railgun were purchased (at high cost) from mercenary forces previously involved in the raid on the Juggernaut development facility. Due to the potential for industrial espionage and the highly competitve market for third generation Vertical Tanks, the entire Earthshaker project was kept under the tightest security.

The most impressive new weapon fielded by the Earthshaker was the Gauss Emitter. Past studies of VT power distribution technology had allowed the Hai Shi Dao to construct a crude prototype Gauss Emitter, which was destroyed along with the D3Eye weapons platform it was mounted upon at the end of the first Hai Shi Dao conflict. Refinement of the original design allowed Oktaeder engineers to develop a much smaller and more effective Gauss Emitter which could actually be equipped on a VT platform. When deployed, the Gauss weapon diverts power from the primary drivetrain, temporarily disabling VT mobility. The reason for this is that the power draw needed for the Gauss is immense, attempting movement while charging the emitters would result in power waveguide ruptures, which would seriously damage internal VT electronics. The massive weight of the integrated Gauss Emitter mandated that the Earthshaker be built as a Heavy class VT in order to provide the necessary support frame. In addition to the aforementioned Gauss, the Earthshaker mounts an impressive array of 3rd generation weaponry, including an electromagnetic launcher and various self-guided missile systems. It is truly the culmination of 3rd generation VT design.

Due to their expense and rarity, the Right Brothers have only fielded Earthshakers during major battles and always with numerous support VTs present. Six Earthshaker VTs were present at the Wa Nan Jin foothills battle in August 2085 on the outskirts of Jian Ta City, one of the few battles involving all three major factions of the war. Strategic placement of Earthshaker units allowed them to prevent the weaker Right Brothers forces from being overrun. Although not decisive, this battle was one of the most costly in the history of the war.

* MagneticWeapons: Two of them. First is a railgun that can optionally be equipped. The second is a built-in Gauss Cannon which short-circuit and temporary shut down any unfortunate VTs in range (and itself), allowing for follow up weapon fire.
* SuperToughness: The Earthshaker has the single highest armor of all VT models. It can simply outlast its opponents through sheer durability; even the railgun, the most damaging weapon in the game per shot, requires 6-8 shots to down it, which is almost the entire ammo supply of a railgun.
* RareVehicle: Due to expensive-ness and rarity.

!!Jaralaccs Mercenary (JAR)

The Jaralaccs Mercenary Forces where only encountered a few times in the original Steel Battalion game, always in the service of the Hai Shi Dao. They return in Line of Contact as assassins for hire who may fight for the highest bidder of their services. Jaralaccs Mercenaries show no loyalty to any one faction and may even switch sides from one battle to the next. This faction is available to transfer to after Turn Five in a Round.

Jaralaccs Mercenaries almost exclusively field heavy class combat VTs, all of which are devastating lethal in their designated combat role. Jaralaccs are the only faction which have general access to heavy class VTs, but they are also the most expensive general release VTs, requiring a pilot to perform very well or face the possibility of running out of funding. Three of the four models available to Jaralaccs pilots are capable of mounting highly destructive melee weaponry, as well as Anti-VT mines, making them fearsome close range opponents.

The Jaralaccs platform was originally designed to be an artillery support [=VT=] for the Pacific Rim Forces. Unfortunately, WM shelved the project when Komatsu L.S. was unilaterally awarded the contract to supply the Decider Volcanic, a [=VT=] whose troubled parentage resulted in a mediocre performance on the battlefield. With the introduction of second generation [=VT=] technology, [=WM=] revisited their support design, with the intent to make it one of the first heavy class assault [=VTs=] put into mass production. [=WM=] decided to create two variants of the Jaralaccs platform, The Jaralaccs C, optimised for close-range combat, and the Jaralaccs N for long-range engagements and support mount weaponry.

The Jaralaccs C is optimised for close combat and enclosed environments. Because of these qualities it is the preferred [=VT=] for base security forces. Although very similar in appearance to the Jaralaccs N model, the C incorporates a much improved hydrolics management system to allow for the integration of the Cutter Boom melee weapon. Adapted from an industrial grade boring drill, the Cutter Boom is permanently mounted to the [=VT=] load frame due to the tremendous torsional stresses it generates when deployed. The Cutter Boom allows the Jaralaccs C to administer devastating mechanical damage to targetted [=VTs=], sometimes resulting in total vehicle loss after only a single hit. In addition to the Cutter Boom, the Jaralaccs C mounts an impressive array of close range weaponry, including Flamethrowers, Napalm Launchers and Anti-[=VT=] Mines making it a very dangerous opponent in close quarters.

The Jaralaccs C was first deployed in a seconded platoon of mercenary forces during the taking of the Reing Ja subterranean fortress. Jaralaccs C units fought room-to-room battles with entrenched HSD defenders. Losses on both sides where high and damage to the base structure was immense, despite this [=PRF=] commanders declared the battle a victory.

Unfortunately, WM shelved the project when Komatsu L.S. was unilaterally awarded the contract to supply the Decider Volcanic, a VT whose troubled parentage resulted in a mediocre performance on the battlefield. With the introduction of second generation VT technology, WM revisited their support design, with the intent to make it one of the first heavy class assault VTs put into mass production. WM decided to create two variants of the Jaralaccs platform, The Jaralaccs C, optimised for close-range combat, and the Jaralaccs N for long-range engagements and support mount weaponry.

The Jaralaccs N retains more of its support heritage than does its sibling C model. It has the ability to mount both the 305-HW howitzer and the HVM-LA missile options, as well as an assortment of medium to short range defensive weaponry. Designed as a Heavy class VT, it has respectable mobility, torque and durability for its size. The Jaralaccs Ns destructive potential is unmatched at its price point except by the Jaralaccs C model.

Jaralaccs models are fielded almost exclusively by mercenary factions. Their durability and self-sufficiency make them the ideal tools for independent soldiers of fortune. The first documented encounter with a Jaralaccs N model occured during the amphibious landing of combined PRF and mercenary forces against the Lan Chi Do Coastal Defenses in January 2085. Several Jaralaccs N units provided support artillery and focused missile attacks against defending Hai Shi Dao forces, resulting in their eventual retreat and the PRF capture of the beach head fortress.

* JackOfAllTrades: Unlike support [=VTs=] of other factions, the durability of Jaralaccs platform and close range weapon options means that Jaralaccs N are still competent at face-to-face combat.

The Jaralaccs [=NS-R=] is a revised command model of the Jaralaccs [=NS=] which saw action during the first Hai Shi Dao conflict in 2080. The [=NS=] and subsequent [=NS-R=] models are based off the Jaralaccs C platform, with significant upgrades to the power distribution systems and augmented weapons options. [=WM=] targetted the [=NS-R=] design for experienced Jaralaccs C pilots looking for a [=VT=] with additional capabilities but having a familiar interface and performance profile.

The [=NS-R=] has one of the most versatile weapons loadouts available. Nearly all combat possibilities are accounted for with the exception of an electromagnetic launcher, something with WM had a two-fold reason for excluding from the [=NS-R=] design. For one, the [=NS-R=] included the integrated Cutter Boom, removal of which would compromised the support frame. Several design permutations showed the promise of simultaneously mounting both the Cutter Boom and the Rail Gun, but certain balancer issues could not be overcome. Secondly, WM had already planned to incorporate an electromagnetic launcher on their upcoming flagship model, the Jaralaccs Macabre and did not want to dilute market interest by having it as an option for the NS-R.

Jaralaccs [=NS-R=] models are relatively rare and not often encountered outside of base defenses. The exception to this is when they are employed as command and coordination units for attacking mercenary forces. Recently declassified intelligence reports suggest that several [=NS-R=] models where present during the Gi Yu stronghold offensive in the Southern Er Ting mountain range. A Jaralaccs [=NS-R=] has never been captured intact by opposing forces.

Shortly after completing the final design revisions to the Jaralaccs [=NS-R=] model, [=WM=] set out to create their flagship war machine. Original concepts were very reminicent of the [=NS-R=] model, but with an electromagnetic launcher in place of the fixed mount Cutter Boom. WM marketing analysts decried this design, citing the immense popularity of the melee weapon option. For several months the engineering team was at an impasse. WM executives decided that a fresh approach was necessary and arranged to have several Oktaeder engineers "consult" on the project. The result of this collaboration was the Jaralaccs Macabre.

Although based on the proven Jaralaccs platform, the Macabre is like no other model in the series. Conceived from the ground up to be the ultimate assault platform, the Macabre belies its 2nd generation rating and is fully capable of engaging and destroying 3rd generation machines. The Macabre mounts all of the armament options that preceeding Jaralaccs models can (excepting the howitzer), as well as the Rail Gun and Shield Binder. The Shield Binder is a fixed mount hydrolic ram which can be deployed to both protect the main body of the VT from directional fire, as well as perform devastating melee attacks against other [=VTs=]. When stowed, the Shield Binder gives the Macabre a menacing and distinctive profile, which it is fully deserves. The Rail Gun technology integrated into the Macabre was based on 3rd generation electromagnetic launcher designs. Special interface and control circuitry had to be developed to allow it to function properly with the 2nd generation operating system.

Reports of Jaralaccs Macabre encounters are extraordinarily rare and the details are sketchy at best. The [=VT=] is so feared that there have been incidents where platoon commanders have withdrawn their forces merely at the rumour of Macabres being deployed in the same area. It is suspected that the loss of the entire [=HSD=] 14th Recon Division was due to an encounter with a Jaralaccs Macabre. Twelve Scare Face II units were found destroyed, all via a single round through the cockpit casing. One pilot was able to report seeing "lightning in the trees..." before his transmission was terminated.

* LightningBruiser: Jaralaccs' trademark durability caused some players to ban its use in gen 1-2 only matches.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Like Siegeszug, it come equipped with Shield Binder which can be flipped forward to absorb enemy fire at the cost of not being able to fire primary weapons.
** ShieldBash: It can also be used to smash any V.T. that got too close this way.
