[[folder:The Dungeon Master (Chris Perkins)]]
* CatchPhrase: "Three (sometimes as high as 'Five')... two... one..." at the beginning of most episodes.
* CheshireCatGrin: Whenever he grins you know something bad or at least very odd is about to happen.
* CoolOldGuy: The oldest of the cast by a significant margin, and loved no less for it.
* CrazyPrepared: Averted; aside from over-arching plot threads, Chris claims to do the bare minimum of planning per session (pretty much nothing past the first 15 minutes). [[MagnificentBastard Not that you would ever guess.]]
* CreatorsFavorite: Given that the Crew have ended up there more than once, Barovia might qualify.
** Chris doesn't play favourite with the characters, but its pretty obvious he adores Paultin's tendency toward breaking the fourth wall. Sometimes giving Paultin info he really shouldn't have just because he can.
* DeadpanSnarker: Both in-character and outwith.
* GodGuise: In-universe, Paultin claims Chris Perkins is a God to explain his existence to his friends.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: There are a few times they would not survive without his leniency, and while he's harsh he's not malicious past what's expected for good conflict.
[[/folder]]

[[header:The Waffle Crew]]

[[folder:General]]
* CartwrightCurse: You don't even have to be a love interest. If you are a guest character or friendly NPC you should probably have your funeral arrangements in order.
-->'''Evelyn''' How did [[spoiler: she (Lafaria)]] die?\
'''Strix''' [[spoiler: Giants killed her!]]\
'''Diath''' [[spoiler: She]] stayed around us.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: All four of them have traumatic childhoods.
** [[spoiler: Strix was raised in a HorribleHive carting dead bodies around for money.]]
** [[spoiler: Diath grew up on the streets as an orphan and at one point was sold.]]
** [[spoiler: Paultin's parents were murdered in front of him and later on, his wife was violently murdered as well.]]
** [[spoiler: Evelyn was sent to the temple at a young age and grew up friendless. She and her brother fell out when she didn't come home to help save her mother's life instead choosing to remain in the service of Lathander.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Diath Woodrow (Jared Knabenbauer)]]
->''"Welcome back to the Waffle Crew!"''
-->-- '''Jared, whenever something bad happens, almost OncePerEpisode'''
* AngelUnaware: [[spoiler: Revealed to have the soul of one]], as of Episode 78.
* BadassNormal: Lacking magic or magic weapons [[spoiler:Until he acquires Gutter]], he survived a direct encounter with Strahd himself early in the first season.
* CharacterOverlap: Diath headed out to Red Larch to find the Rings of Protection [[spoiler: that has pieces of Evelyn's soul.]] This made him come into contact with K'thriss and Walnut of the "C" Team, appearing in an episode of that show. [[spoiler: This episode helped set up the whole crossover between both parties called ''Waffles Inc.'']]
* ChildHater: Immediately dislikes any child character. It lightens up a bit after a while, but his initial reaction to children is annoyance and irritation.
** Particularly bad where Simon's involved. Even once insisting they destroy him themselves [[spoiler: directly after Paultin and Evelyn get him back from the dead.]]
* CombatParkour: Since he’s the only one in he party that can’t fly, he often has to resort to this. Prime example is when he had to save Strix in episode 86 by running up a wall.
* CosmicPlaything: Really, the multiverse seems to go out of its way to fuck with him.[[spoiler: Probably has something to do with being the last Lorcatha.]]
* CrimeOfSelfDefense:
-->'''Izek''': He murdered the guard!\
'''Evelyn''': The guard was trying to murder him!\
'''Izek''': The guard's allowed to do that.
* {{Determinator}}: Not only has this as a personality trait (When his friends are in danger he will '''not''' give up trying to save them) but as an actual Feat, Human Determination.
* EasilyForgiven: After [[spoiler:Killing Arabelle]] even Evelyn gives him only a mild scolding.
%%** Averted with the dwarves though.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Diath has shades of this. Though none of the crew is entirely new to adventuring, Diath is quickly chosen as a leader because he acts like this.
** Possibly a result of Jared's experience being a dungeon master.
%%* FatalFlaw: Keeping secrets.
* FourPhilosophyEnsemble: The Realist although as the series progresses he slides towards the Cynic
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: The Phlegmatic, pragmatic leader
* FragileSpeedster: High Dex combined with low Strength and Con make him this.
* GrassIsGreener: For some reason, he thinks everything will be better if they can just get back home to Waterdeep.
%%* GuiltComplex
* HadToBeSharp: Grew up on the streets.
%%* HatesTheirParent: He hates his father.
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler: Watching the prisoners he was trying to save get burned alive by a fire primordial]] did not do any good for his mental health. Suffers a second one after [[spoiler: destroying Port Nyanzaru's harbor (and it's Dragon Turtle guardian) with a magical bomb.]] He gets another one [[spoiler: when the dwarven clans’ ambassadors confront him.]]
* KeepingSecretsSucks: Diath spends a lot of energy, um... "curating the truth" towards his friends to manage their opinions of him. Perkins delights in having things that Diath hasn't found a way to talk about yet come around to bite Diath in a way that raises questions.
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler: His killing Arabelle in order to enchant Mr. Shambleface for the purpose of trapping Strahd]]
* TheLeader: Not officially until around the end of Season 1 but the others tend to defer to him mostly due to his status as OnlySaneMan and TheStrategist.
%%* LoonyFriendsImproveYourPersonality
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: [[spoiler: Basically why he killed Arabelle, in order to get something to destroy Strahd]]
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Twice
** The first time [[spoiler: when he releases the fire primordial inside the fire giants dungeon and incinerates their slaves]]
** The second time he shares credit with Strix [[spoiler: when they setoff the magical equivalent of a nuclear bomb in Port Nyanzaru's harbor]]
* NumberOneDime: Diath's amethyst necklace. It was the first treasure he found.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Being beaten unconscious by animated brooms.
* OnlySaneMan: Definitely the most level-headed and commonsensical member of the group. Of course, when you companions are a sometimes functional alcoholic, a pessimistic and panicky devil spawn and ThePollyanna this isn't all that hard.
%%* SignatureMove: Uncanny Dodge.
* SilentSnarker: Jared/his facial expressions when someone is saying/doing something dumb, and especially when Evelyn is pontificating about Lathander are epic.
* TheStrategist: The most likely, often the only, member of the crew to come up with a coherent plan both in and out of combat.
* StreetUrchin: Grew up in the streets.
* WeakButSkilled: Tends to go with being a Rogue but also because of his low Strength and Constitution scores and with his tendency to pick Feats (Dungeon Delver and Human Determination) instead of improving those scores.
* YouKillItYouBoughtIt: As of Episode 109, [[spoiler:Diath is the new Xanathar, having killed the previous Xanathar]]
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: Any time Gutter complements the taste of Diath's kills.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Evelyn Marthain (Anna Prosser Robinson)]]
%%* ActionGirl
* AmbiguouslyBi: She canonically has a crush on Paultin but she has at least a PseudoRomanticFriendship going on with Dee and seemed to be cultivating the same sort of thing with Ireena. She also literally [[{{Squee}} squees]] when she is saved from drowning by the kiss of a beautiful mermaid.
* AnimalCompanion: Juniper, her pet mouse and Morning Glory, her horse..
* BerserkButton: Get's pissed when [[spoiler: Jarlaxle]] claims Simon isn't really her son.
* TheBigGuy: The main direct fighter of the group
* BoisterousBruiser: Loud and cheerful, kicking ass or otherwise.
* CatchPhrase: "By the light of Lathander!"
%%* ChronicHeroSyndrome
* CuddleBug: Just loooves to hug people, especially [[HatesBeingTouched Strix]].
* CutenessProximity: She turns into mush in front of anything cute. Particularly bad if that cute thing was to kill her party. This applies to people too.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: Thankfully averted post-her [[spoiler: rescue from the Soul Monger and subsequent resurrection inside a dwarven-made robotic construct.]]
* TheDitz: At times. She's certainly not the smartest member of the team.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Of the gender-flipped Low Key Yearning variety toward Paultin.
* DrunkOnPower: Evelyn ''really'' didn't want to give up her curse of lycanthropy.
* DumbBlond: Blond and definitely the least smart of the [=PCs=]
* {{Flight}}: Thanks to her winged boots.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler: Turns into a sun while being devoured by the Soul Monger, dealing it a hefty blow and lifting the Death Curse from Diath and Strix in the process.]]
%%* EasilyImpressed
* FemaleGaze: At Paultin when he comes out of his room wearing a robe sized for dwarves.
* FourPhilosophyEnsemble: The Optimist, [[ThePollyanna sometimes to a ridiculous]], [[StupidGood even dangerous]] degree
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: As the perpetually cheerful and optimistic BoisterousBruiser she is definitely Sanguine
%%* GoodCannotComprehendEvil
* HeroicBSOD: Has a brief one when [[spoiler: Lightfall is destroyed]] but, being ThePollyanna, it does last long.
* HeroicSacrifice: If someone is going to sacrifice themselves for the party it’ll be her
%%* HonorBeforeReason
* ICallItVera: Has named all her weapons. Lightfall and Treebane for her axes. [[spoiler: Later when she acquires a flaming magical sword she names it The Heart of Spinelli.]]
* InnocentBigot: Mocks the VerbalTic of a group of Dwarves. To be fair it seems to bother Strix and Diath more than it does them.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Doesn't seem to realize that Lathander is '''not''' the only good god in the universe. This leads to her doing things like commending the souls of dead dwarven allies to Lathander even though they rightfully belong to Moradin.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Evelyn is starstruck by the saint she meets while [[spoiler: dead.]] Also any time Lathander acknowledges her in any way.
* LargeHam: By the Light of Lathander, she sure is!
--> ''[kicks open door]'' "HELLO FRIEND OR FOE!"
* LeeroyJenkins: Part of her character development is overcoming this. Paultin has to call her out on it before she realizes what she'd doing.
* MagicKnight: As a Paladin, she wields both magic and blade.
* MotorMouth: Especially early in the series, but even today she can be quite the Chatty Cathy.
* NeatFreak: Hates tp get dirty and has a deep love for the color white.
* OddFriendship: With the cynical, snarky Strix, who is generally reluctant to call it friendship.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Evelyn is typically cheerful and optimistic to the point of tooth-rotting nausea, so when she [[spoiler: becomes so distraught in Episode 79 that she drops to her knees, hums to herself, and then lets out a teary-eyed prayer to Lathander]], you know things are getting dire.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: After she gets bitten by a werewolf during Season 1, Anna insists that Evelyn is a were-Pomeranian.
* OverlyLongName: Reveals her full name to be Evelyn Avalona Helvig Marthain near the end of Season 1.
* PintSizePowerhouse: She has a distinct lack of height but is powerful both in magic and fighting prowess.
* ThePollyanna: Her biggest personality trait is an eternal optimism based on her faith in Lathander.
* ProstheticLimbReveal: Turns out she has a prosthetic leg.
* PushoverParents: Not as bad as Paultin, but still lets Simon get away with a lot [[spoiler: including murder and kidnapping.]]
* SenseFreak: After her resurrection back into a (non-construct) human, Evelyn becomes a little too enamored with having a sense of touch and smell again.
* SouthernBelle: Subverted. She has the accent and the mannerisms but she's also an axe-wielding, spell chucking badass.
* StalkerWithACrush: Pre-series towards Paultin. Whenever he’d get kicked out of a tavern she’d follow.
* StupidGood: A mild example, as her Pollyannish tendencies sometimes get the better of her. [[spoiler: Diath and Strix have to bully her into getting her lycanthropy removed because she thinks she can do a lot of good with her werewolf powers, ignoring that she has to be tied up every night in order not to kill her teammates.]]
* TakenForGranite: In episode 109. [[spoiler:Then [[LiterallyShatteredLives Paultin accidentally drops her]]]]
* WideEyedIdealist: Less so as time goes on, but starts out with genuine rose-tinted glasses.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Paultin Seppa (Nathan Sharp)]]
* TheAlcoholic: Any time there's wine he can be found drinking it and tends to get depressed when there's none available. Has been used as an in-game excuse for being incapable when Nathan is missing. It’s clearly triggered by stressful situations and trauma as there was several episodes that he seemed to be getting better only to be brought right back down.
* BlankStare: Does this from time to time. Most notably is the egg incident.
* BrainwashingForTheGreaterGood: He often casts Suggestion on others to get himself or his friends out of tight situations. "Greater good" being "his interests." When he gets it he also uses Crown of Madness in this way.
* BrilliantButLazy: He's actually really good at magic. Often beating Strix in the rare occurrence they go head to head. But he's so apathetic and lazy it's easy to miss.
%%* CallousnessTowardsEmergency:
%%** "Oh no... my bride."
* CatchPhrase: A string of them, most of them monosyllabic:
** "Huh."
** "Yup"
** "Hmmm"
** "Cool"
** "Okay"
** "Interesting"
** "MY SON!"
** "So", sometimes drawn out and always followed by a request for information from Chris.
** "Not with that attitude."
* TheCharmer: Zigzagged. He's this when the party first goes to the inn in Barovia then it fades away then comes back out of necessity when [[spoiler: he's trapped in Castle Ravenloft]].
* ConditionedToAcceptHorror: Impresses even Chris Perkins with his ability to not react to horrible sights.
--> "Wow, you are a desensitized youth."
* TheCorruptible: Perkins is determined to give Paultin a domain of dread. He's tried like three times.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's mainly just... there... for most of the adventure. But when his balls are to the wall, or he's angry enough, he can become a hardened manipulator or an unfettered killer. The time he was isolated from the rest of the party in Castle Ravenloft comes to mind. The ''two separate times'' he single-handedly overpowered Rudolph Van Richten, the legendary vampire slayer, in a single round do as well.
* CrusadingWidower: [[spoiler: As it turns out, Paultin actually had a wife for two years only for her to have been brutally slaughtered by someone Paultin made enemies with.]] Suddenly, not immediately responding to Evelyn's romantic approaches makes a lot of sense.
* DeflectorShields: can cast Leomund's Tiny Hut, dubbed "The Waffle Hut", an impenetrable forcefield where the Waffle Crew can take a rest. Once called "Paultin's Hut of Nope" by the Twitch chat when he used it during a battle.
* TheDitherer: The most criticized aspect of Paultin's character is his inability to make decisions, to the point that he attempted to stall the Big Bad long enough to anger both the vampire and the youtube comments section (not that that's difficult). He's gotten better, but it's still a common aspect of his character.
* DrowningMySorrows: He's constantly drunk to avoid confronting his emotions.
* EvilMakeover: When Paultin [[spoiler:turns evil he lets his hair grow out, it turns black, and his skin gets pale.]]
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: His hair was originally blonde, but [[spoiler: as the Ring of Winter took hold of him and began to corrupt him into the Dark Lord of his own Barovia-like Realm]] it turned black. [[spoiler: It remained black even after Paultin was rescued and redeemed by the rest of the Crew.]]
* FamedInStory: Once they move into Waterdeep Paultin becomes famous for his music becoming the primary breadwinner for the family, seeing as the bakery is always empty.
* FleetingPassionateHobbies: Paultin gets into mixology and streaming for like a month before their crazy life gets in the way and it's dropped entirely.
%%* FourPhilosophyEnsemble: The Apathetic
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: As TheQuietOne and TheAlcoholic he's definitely Melancholic.
* FourthWallObserver: Every so often, especially if he's really drunk, Paultin makes comments to or about the audience (Usually the chat room, or the Reddit subreddit.) to the confusion of everyone.
** Literally when [[spoiler: he died. He watches the show from a theater with all their dead friends.]]
* HearingVoices: Paultin hears voices in his head that are later confirmed to be the twitch chat and Chris Perkins.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: While, so far, he's always come back to the crew he has been known to flirt with the Dark Side. [[spoiler:The closest he's come to a genuine FaceHeelTurn was with the Ring of Winter. His flirtation with Strahd was mostly a matter of survival.]]
* HelpingHands: is given a mummified hand by an EldritchAbomination which turns out to be animate and eager to please.
* HeroicBSOD: After the events of the previous episode [[spoiler: where he accidentally shattered Evelyn]], Paultin spent most of 110 either curled up in a ball or simply going through the motions in a distant, shaky way.
* IndyPloy: In Episode 73 he admits this as his go-to strategy, much to Evelyn's shock who thought he was TheStrategist.
* IneffectualLoner: Subverted due to [[RealLifeWritesThePlot Nate being the most likely to have things to do that interfere with his attendance]]. When he's absent, Chris usually just has him drunk and/or brooding in a corner. He also has a disturbing tendency to get kidnapped or diverted by [=NPCs=] with their own agenda.
* InterspeciesAdoption: [[spoiler: Of Murderbot.]]
* LameComeback: A lot of Paultin's Dissonant Whispers are this.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Is the only crew member who consistently uses modern slang.
* TheLoad: During the first season at least where he spoke little, had about one move in combat, Dissonant Whispers, and spent a lot of time drunk. Has improved with time. To the point that Holly didn’t think the party [[spoiler: could take him down when he turned evil through the ring of winter’s influence,]] though a good part of that was just that he so unpredictable.
%%* TheLostLenore: His wife
* ManipulativeBastard: At times though usually only to bad guys. Esher is the biggest victim of this.
* MediumAwareness: Paultin is aware that he's a character in a roleplaying game, and constantly references the dungeon master, dice rolls, character sheets, the season of the show, the episode title, and even visual elements from the stream he's a part of ''in character'' to the point that Evelyn believes "Perkins" is some deity Paultin has begun praying to.
* MoralityChain: For Simon, ironically so since he's the most amoral member of the crew.
* MyGreatestFailure: Not being there to [[spoiler: protect his wife when she died is this is his eyes.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: Lost his parents when young, [[spoiler: due to their being killed by van Richten]]
* PushoverParents: Simon has literally gotten away with murder with just a mild scolding.
* TheQuietOne. Oddly for a bard, tends to talk only when he has to. [[spoiler: Leads to OOCIsSeriousBusiness when he talks with Van Richten.]]
* RevengeBeforeReason: Paultin shows a tendency towards when someone hurts a friend or family. Tormenting Van Richton regardless of whether the man is their only hope for survival and throwing himself at the creature who [[spoiler: killed Evelyn]] despite being low on hit points.
%%* SignatureInstrument: Bagpipes.
* SignatureMove: Dissonant Whispers, later Thunderwave.
* StarvingArtist: Paultin complains about how hard it is to survive on the money he made from his music pre-series during the campfire episode, but it's averted when they return to Waterdeep as Paultin quickly becomes famous.
* StupidityIsTheOnlyOption: Lampshaded. He'll do whatever random strangers tell him in order to advance the plot.
* WildCard: No one knows what he's going to do, it's one of his strengths and one of the party's weaknesses.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Strix (Holly Conrad)]]
[[quoteright:165:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strix.png]]
[[caption-width-right:165:"I know magic!"]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Downplayed and doesn't come up much, but a good chunk of her self-worth comes from being the best magic user in the party but any time she and Paultin get in a magic battle Paultin wins whether it's her attempt to pin him down after [[spoiler: he runs away]] or a drunken chair fight.
* AnimalCompanion: Her cranium rat, Stinky, later [[spoiler: Hooty [=McHootface=] and then Hooty's hatchling Waffles]]
* BloodBath: Strix learned to keep herself young via this trope.
* BrokenBird: Stemming from ParentalAbandonment, growing up in a WretchedHive and having her first surrogate family slaughtered.
* CatchPhrase: She has several:
** "Aah!", plus or minus an a.
** Calling Lathander "Butthander". She even does this on the rare occasions she's actually asking for his help.
** "[[HatesBeingTouched Don't touch me!]]", usually directed at the touchy-feely Evelyn.
** "[[BlatantLies EVERYTHING'S FINE!]]"
** "I KNOW MAGIC!"/"I CAN DO MAGIC!"
* CharacterOverlap: When Strix is whisked away from the main party in episode 60, she moonlights for ''WebVideo/AcquisitionsIncorporated'' for a couple episodes. [[spoiler:It turns out that [=AcqInc=]'s boss Omin Dran has obtained an infernal contract once signed by Strix's ancestors that allows its owner to summon and bind said family's most powerful member for a specific task.]] She also makes one appearance -also on Omin Dran's directive- in Jerry Holkins' own game, The C Team.
* CreepyGood. She's a perpetually unkempt devil spawn but is definitely one of the good guys.
* CollectorOfTheStrange: She hordes all kinds of weird things in her robes, from a goat's heart to a creepy vampire plushie to snacks in varying degrees of edibility.
* CowardlyLion: Often panics and runs away but then will return to fight. It’s part of her character arc.
%%* TheCynic
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Grew up in a WretchedHive without any family and when she did find a family of sorts they all got slaughtered by a demon. Rather than [[HadToBeSharp getting tough]] to survive, she became so wretched trouble [[BeneathNotice would pass her by]]. She ''still'' got tough, just in case of trouble took notice anyway.
%%* FatalFlaw: Cowardice.
* {{Foil}}: To Jim Darkmagic when she briefly serves as a contractor for WebVideo/AcquisitionsIncorporated. Besides being spellcasters, nearly everything about them is the exact opposite of each. While Jim is vain and self-absorbed and mostly [[PunchClockHero motivated by personal interest]], Strix is extremely unkempt and is genuinely interested in helping the people around her. As a wizard who was raised in highly privileged surroundings, Jim looks down on Strix, who as a sorcerer never received a formal education in magic, even calling her a pervert for her sorceress nature. Jim is a [[TheCasanova people person]], Strix HatesBeingTouched. Jim is a LovableSexManiac, Strix is asexual, etc.
-->'''Strix''': So, [[SignatureMove I will Misty Step to a high spot and I will Fireball them]].\
'''Omin''': Do you do that completely without warning? [[UnfriendlyFire Are your friends occasionally near you?]]\
'''Strix''': But I can be careful. I can make it go around them.\
'''Jim''': That's not possible, no. It can't be done!\
'''Strix''': [[CatchPhrase I know magic!]]\
'''Jim''': [[BlatantLies It's a foundational element of the Fireball spell]]. It can't be diverted in any way.
* FourPhilosophyEnsemble: The Cynic, mostly focused on her own and, although she doesn't like to admit it, her companions' survival
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Cynical and snarky, she is definitely Choleric.
* {{Goth}}: Lampshaded by Holly who describes her at a party as "Standing in a corner, looking like a sad mall Goth"
* HatesBeingTouched: Especially by [[CuddleBug Evelyn]].
* HeroBall: Especially in the third and fourth seasons and especially in regards to Diath as when she [[spoiler: volunteers to bear a child for the night hags or swoops down and grabs one of his keys from the sea after an ancient dragon turtle has made it clear that anything that hits the water is his]].
* ImprobableWeaponUser: On the rare occasions she doesn't use magic she throws thing like dead rats and yak horns. This has yet to be effective.
* InterspeciesAdoption: [[spoiler:By Rosie Beestinger, out of necessity.]]
%%* LargeHam: A cranky contentious one but yes.
* NayTheist: Acknowledges the existence of Lathander and other gods but doesn't consider them worthy of worship referring to them as "powers" rather than deities. To her Lathander is a power but so is Strahd.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler: When Strahd and the werewolves come to Krezk for Ireena he mind controls Ireena and is riding off with her on his nightmare when Strix casts Hold Person on her which causes her to fall off, from fifty feet in the air, to her death.]]
* NoIndoorVoice: Zigzagged. She seems to have only two voice settings, a low grumble, and a piercing shriek.
* OddFriendship: With the ever cheerful Evelyn.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Learns to preserve her youth and vitality for [[spoiler: 50 years]] from Baba Lysaga.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler: When she hugs Ezmerelda just before Paultin executes her with the Sun Sword]]
* ParentalAbandonment: Doesn't know what happened to her parents but presumes them both dead.
* ThePigpen: There's no sign that she has ever voluntarily cleaned either her self or her robes. Subverted in the live episode where the crew cosplays as their characters and we see that if she ever [[SheCleansUpNicely practiced some basic hygiene Strix would definitely be a looker]].
* PlayingWithFire: Is fond of both Fireball and Fire Bolt as attacks.
* RobeAndWizardHat: If you can count her tathered rags as "robes".
* SourSupporter: She spends a lot of time screaming at people, especially Evelyn, and predicting doom but she genuinely cares about the team. Even when she runs off she will always come back to help the party.
* SignatureMove: Misty Step, [[TacticalWithdrawal often followed, once she's up out of danger, by Fire Ball]].
* SingleTargetSexuality: Holly [[WordOfGod originally confirmed]] that Strix was asexual and aromantic. However, when she was [[spoiler: in Barovia for 50 years,]] [[spoiler: she started to feel a heavy pain when she was making the doll of Diath, and had a nightmare of the real Diath (while everyone else in the dream were dolls) asking why she ran away, [[LoveEpiphany leading her to make a promise never to run for his sake.]]]] Since then, Holly updated that Strix is no longer aromantic, and Strix's behavior towards [[spoiler: Diath]] changes a little due to these new feelings. She's still extremely uncomfortable around any other possibly romantic gestures from other characters, however.
* SquishyWizard: Not as much as [[FragileSpeedster Diath]], but her stats definitely lean elsewhere.
* StepfordSnarker: As the series progresses it becomes clear that her cynical, snarky attitude stems from having grown up alone in a WretchedHive.
* SweetTooth: Pies and cookies mostly.
* WakeUpCall: [[spoiler: When Diath is hung. Much of Strix's early character development stems from her abandoning her friends just before.]]
* WitchClassic: acquires a pointy hat and a flying broom during the Waffle Crew's adventures, and even starts brewing potions in the swamp after [[spoiler: Diath, Evelyn, and Paultin are executed]].

[[folder: General]]
* ArtisticLicenseChildLaborLaws: They help out in the bakery.
* ChildhoodFriends: They are children and they are friends, but at the same time they've been friends for a long time.
* FreeRangeChildren: The Waffle Crew tries, but its the best they can do just to keep the kids from getting kidnapped or accidentally killing themselves.
* TheRunaway: All of them but Simon are either this or orphans. Jenks at least is implied to still have parents but Squiddly seems to be a confirmed orphan.
* StrangerSafety: These kids move in with complete strangers, one of which is constantly drunk and another is a literal witch.
* StreetUrchin: Nat, Squiddly, and Jenks before being adopted by the Waffle Crew.

* CensoredChildDeath:[[spoiler: Averted. Everyone watches when Simon is crushed to death.]]
* CreepyChild: Diath and Strix find him quite unsettling. [[spoiler: Eventually his mouth is upgraded so he can talk. 339* BoisterousBruiser: Dee is large, loud, perpetually cheerful and always up for a fight.
* ExitPursuedByABear: We never really learn what Paultin's shadow did to her if anything. Nate's ambiguous responses to questions about it seem to imply Perkins never told the players, either.
* MightyGlacier: Described by Erika more than once as "a wall of meat"
%%* UndyingLoyalty: To Van Richten.
* WhateverHappenedToTheMouse: She's gone completely unseen since episode 25. According to the pre-episode-100 AMA, Erika's had a regular conflict since then that's prevented her return to the show, but it hasn't been ruled out.

* TheCameo: Originated by Rothfuss in WebVideo/CriticalRole
* UnfazedEveryman: Kerrek has seen some shit, and it shows. Throughout his entire appearance, he reacts to every unexpected event with weary acceptance and a steady hand.

''For the tropes generally associated with him, go to [[Characters/TheAdventureZoneBalance The Adventure Zone Balance Arc page.]]''

The following tropes relate to Magnus in relationship to the characters of DCA:
* BadassBystander: Was minding his own business at Chair Con when assassins from the Xanathar guild attacked the party.
* CrutchCharacter: Acts as this for the party's first foray against the Xanathar Guild. This ends up actually causing problems for the group, as Chris Perkins upped the difficulty of enemies in order to challenge Magnus.
* CurbStompBattle: Magnus is much higher level than the Waffle Crew. So being a fighter with three regular attacks and an action surge (allowing him to attack six times once per long rest) using a ridiculous weapon with massive bonuses lets him tear through enemies like a hot knife through butter.
* OlderAndWiser: At Diath's lowest point of stress and grief, Magnus gives him a story of some of his own failures, notably an entire town that was burned to the ground because of his own faults. He gives Diath advice to not try and "make up for it" because he would never be able to, and never let these things hold him down, because he has friends that care too much about him. Diath proceeds to break into tears as Magnus (and Strix in rat hoard form) give him a comfort hug.
* ParentalSubstitute: He's a better father figure to Diath than Ashton ever was. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Jared/Diath in their battle against the mindflayer and its cronies:
--> ''[Diath misses a dagger throw]''\
'''Magnus:''' You tried, and I'm proud of you!\
'''Diath:''' Thank you, [[VerbalBackspace fath-... Magnus!]]\
'''Strix:''' We all heard that.

[[folder: The "C" Team]]
The "C" Team is a Red Larch faction of WebVideo/AcquisitionsIncorporated that the Waffle Crew meet up with when Omin attempts to invite Evelyn to the Dran & Courtier. Rosie and K'thriss visit Strix and Diath in Waterdeep, while Evelyn and Paultin go to Red Larch and meet up with Donaar and Walnut. This leads to the events of the crossover episodes of ''Waffles Inc.''

* TheDragon: To the Burgomeister of Vallaki.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He seems to genuinely care about Strix, his sister.
* HazyFeelTurn: He might have become '''less''' evil after losing his arm and come over to the Waffle Crew's side (except for Diath)but he never really becomes good and certainly not nice.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: Once the situation with the Ring of Winter is dealt with in Season 3, he demands that Strix have nothing more to do with Diath, citing his belief that Diath is from the Skizzix's long-lost nemesis family.

* AdaptationalVillainy: The Van Richten of the TabletopGame/{{Ravenloft}} worked very hard to avoid becoming one of the monsters he hunted, and even forgave the last member of the Vistani clan who killed his family. While this Van Richten is based more on the ''TabletopGame/CurseOfStrahd'' version of him, who, granted, was more aggressive, he never did anything that would warrant the term "Atrocity".
* DisproportionateRetribution: Killed the entire troupe of the Vistani family who kidnapped his son, not just the family that did it.

One might be tempted to hear that and think of the conventional meaning: "To kill out of a sense of mercy, to end pain or prevent other suffering". Not so, The Mercykillers believe that mercy is a worthless value that allows criminals to flourish. They want to ''kill mercy''.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Chris uses a voice modulator at points for Karas' words to emphasize them, which has a powerful reverberation effect.
* PrecisionFStrike: Drops one when [[spoiler: Kerrek lands the blow that puts him down for good]].
-->'''Karas the Invincible''': [[spoiler: Who the fuck ''are'' you!?]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Dragonbait]]
* TheSpeechless: Doesn't talk at all, instead communicates through smells.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ring of Winter]]
A powerful magic ring with a personality and agenda all of its own.
* ArtifactDomination: Gives the wearer great power, but takes over their will
* AnIcePerson: As the name might suggest, this is the flavour of power the ring grants
* ManipulativeBastard: To the point of tailoring what it says to different wearers; the ring's interactions with [[spoiler: Paultin]] are simple and casual, whereas the interactions with [[spoiler: Miranda]] in episode 84 are far more elegant by comparison.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Umbril]]
A half-orc cleric of Torm that briefly traveled through Chult with the crew with her steward, Chumba
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Shemeshka the Marauder]]
An Arcanaloth that Diath sometimes finds himself forced by circumstance to deal with. He can trade one of a number of magical keys in his possession to her for answers to questions. She appears as a fox-like woman in elaborate evening gowns and spectacles, her outfit always including a wreath or wrap made of a particularly vicious planar thorned plant called a Razorvine.
* AffablyEvil; She's always quite friendly and charming towards Diath.
* DealWithTheDevil: She has not directly made a play for anyone's soul, but Diath sees any dealing with her as this.
* DiabolusExMachina: As might be expected. She has a store of valuable information to share, and has even been called upon to provide services other than providing information. She often makes things ''easier'', but rarely makes them ''better''.
* FoxFolk: The preferred form is an elegant fox-woman.
* MistakenForRomance: Evelyn and Paultin immediately decide that there's something romantic between her and Diath. Diath is horrified by this.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Awful Crew]]
Evil clones of Diath, Paultin and Strix that were made by a coven of hags. They are later joined by an evil counterpart of Evelyn who worships Shar.
%%* EvilIsPetty: Paultin 100%
* EvilTwin: Of Diath, Paultin and Strix. They are less heroic adventurers and more (poorly hidden) serial killers.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: Were sent to Port Nyanzaru by the hags specifically to kill people for the hags to eat, and towards this end were given a magic sack that could only send the corpses of evil people to them.
* RedemptionPromotion: Inverted, The Waffle Kids find a portal to an alternate reality which is ruled by a triumvirate that includes Evelyn of Shar.
%%* SexierAlterEgo: Evil Diath.
* SexyVillainsChasteHeroes: Diath and Paultin are explicitly stated as dressing more provocatively than their good counterparts, and Evil Diath is stated as being more attractive since he didn't suffer the Death Curse and thus have all his old wounds raised as scars, albeit around 10 years older. Averted by Evil Strix, who somehow cares ''even less'' about her appearance and hygiene than Good Strix.
* {{Shapeshifter}}: Umpox, the imp that the hags sent with the Awful Crew as a handler. He can appear as a rat, spider or raven, depending on which of the Crew he is dealing with.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Commodore Warrington Munt]]
A military-minded Giff, a race described as having hippo-like features. Rescued from a shipwreck during the Crew's journey from Port Nyanzaru to Waterdeep
* AccidentalMisnaming: Does this to both Paultin (Pippin) and Diath (Ding-Dong). Diath is not a fan. Made even funnier later on when the Crew have to hide their identities and Evelyn comes up with fake names for everyone. [[InsultOfEndearment Guess what name Diath gets introduced with?]]
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Chris plays him pretty straight, meaning that much of the Crew's banter goes straight over his head
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler:Goes through ceremorphosis[[note]]The process through which Illithids (mindflayers) reproduce, involving infecting the victim with a slug-like creature that spends weeks or months transforming the victim into a new mindflayer.[[/note]] and turns into a huge mindflayer. The Waffle Crew is forced to battle and ultimately kill him in his new form. It turns out he was infected before the Crew ever met him.]]
* GenreRefugee: Warrington really stands out as being a character from some kind of sci-fi. He's an alien who fell from a spaceship into a world that doesn't even have cars.
* GunNut: Is this, in a rather blatant manner. He gets separated from the crew while trying to procure one in Waterdeep
* NoIndoorVoice: Is half-deaf, which may explain why his voice is always so booming
* TheBusCameBack: Warrington sticks with the Waffle Crew much longer than most [=NPCs=], but he splits from the group on episode 97 to look for ammunition, seemingly as a way to be PutOnABus. By surprise, [[TheBusCameBack Diath finds him again 12 episodes later]], dueling a minotaur in fisticuffs - and ''winning''. He rejoins the group and stays in the Waffle Crew's basement.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Noska]]
* ArmCannon: A crossbow variation. The problems that would arise from this is [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Magnus.
--> '''Magnus:''' How do you shower?\
'''Noska:''' I don't!
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Starts off with Xanathar's ready to attack the crew until Evelyn gives him loving words, making him question his life choices. He aligned with the Waffle Crew for a while, thinking he was part of it, until he showed up at their house uninvited, causing a heated arguement with Paultin. This led to him being kicked out of the house. In his anger, he kidnapped Waffles when the crew was out of the house. But he still had some good left in him, as he gave the kids trying to save the owlbear an opportunity to escape with her.
* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler:The Xanathar decided to tear Noska's head off his body after his betrayal. His corpse was sent to the Waffle Crew to send a message.]]
* StalkerWithACrush: This dwarf clearly has a crush on Evelyn. He followed the Waffle Crew back to their house and lived in their basement without them noticing. Of course, Paultin promptly kicked him out once he was discovered.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Xanathar]]
* AxCrazy: In both DCA and the books he stars in, the Xanathar seems to throw out disintegration rays on anything that could possibly kill him, sometimes even his own shadow.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: His arrogance, paranoia and evil are generally PlayedForLaughs, but he is a very powerful monster at the center of an extensive criminal organization, and certainly the most pressing danger the Waffle Crew had met at the time.
* BigBad: The main threat to the Waffle Crew during their time in Waterdeep.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: [[spoiler: After Binwin attacks him with a javelin, the Xanathar [[CurbStompBattle immediately petrifies and disintegrates him]]]]
** Happens again [[spoiler:to Evelyn, minus the disintegration.]]
%%* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: His pet fish.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: "Xanathar" is a title belonging to the Beholder who runs the Xanathar Guild. If he has any other name, it is never revealed.
* FourthWallObserver: Like Paultin, the Xanathar breaks the fourth wall regularly. Examples include knowing one of Nate's songs, boasting about his challenge rating, and knowing what's on Chris's notes.
* HumanResources: It's implied his seemingly never ending supply of Beholder corpses come from ''previous Xanathars''
* MoralityPet: Sylgar, his goldfish and the only thing in the universe Xanathar seems to care about. The Waffle Crew get wrapped up in a plot to kidnap the fish in order to use it as leverage.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: Originally had no idea who Diath was, despite having in depth knowledge of the rest of the Waffle Crew. Slightly averted since he seemingly "gets his sheet" later on though, as he seems to know that killing Strix would give Diath misery. [[spoiler: Ironically, Diath ends up being the one to take him down.]]
* {{Oculothorax}}: As a beholder, Xanathar is a creature that falls into this category.
* {{Yandere}}: While the Xanathar may not love anything more than himself, he has taken a very notable liking to Evelyn. He plans to kill everyone and everything she loves so she would love nothing but the Xanathar himself. Paultin seems to be the top of his to-kill list.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Todd]]
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Was originally just a random soldier that came to comfort a crying Evelyn (who Anna named on the spot), but [[WordOfGod Chris has plans to make him recurring after immediately becoming loved by fans.]]
