!!Vincent Vollachia (Birth name: Vincent Abellux)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vincent_vollachia.png]]

The 77th and current [[TheEmperor Emperor]] of the Vollachia Empire. He first appears in Ex-Volume 4 and debuts in Arc 7 of the main story.
----
* AbdicateTheThrone: For some reason, he has been deposed from the Vollachian throne and has fled the capital of Lupgana to the forest where Subaru meets him. It is eventually revealed that the 'Great Disaster', one of four calamities that are foretold to occur in the future, is fated to occur and potentially destroy the Vollachia Empire upon the death of the reigning emperor Vincent Vollachia. Vincent had [[FaceDeathWithDignity long made his peace]] with his fated demise and planned to strengthen the country to survive the Disaster without him, but Chisha Gold, one of the conspirators, aided in the scheme only to use his unique ability to 'become' somebody in order to [[BodyDouble fully take on the identity and role]] of 'Vincent Vollachia', and [[TakeMeInstead die in his place]], allowing Vincent to rally the Empire to survive the disaster instead.
* AttractiveBentGender: Vincent looks really beautiful when disguised as a woman.
* BandagedFace: When he and Subaru first meet one another at the start of Arc 7, Vincent covers his face with a rag, concealing his face and identity. Only his eyes are visible.
* TheChessmaster: He's described as having a keen intellect which enabled him to become Emperor and in EX Volume 4 he manufactured a coup attempt against him as a gambit to sign a peace treaty with the Kingdom of Lugnica.
* ClassyCravat: An emperor needs to look classy, hence his cravat.
* CoolMask: Played with. When Subaru first encounters him in the forest, he'd fashioned a bag that held his various supplies and items in a dead drop into a makeshift mask, cutting it into strips and wrapping it around his entire face. He removes it in Chapter 12 when revealing his name and identity to Subaru. Not only is it to obscure his face, but the fact that Vincent had to rely on a makeshift creation rather than any actual mask, sells how [[WithThisHerring utterly lacking in options and resources he currently is.]]
* DisguisedInDrag: While he participates in the bloodless seizure of Guaral, Vincent dresses as a belly dancer while under the alias Bianca with Subaru's help.
* EnemyMine: When both Vincent and Subaru are each pushed to their RageBreakingPoint following the battle at the Imperial capital, it results in an intense WimpFight between the two as they cathartically vent their grievances with the other's personality, actions and inconsistencies that aggravate them both. Afterwards, when making idle conversation over Vincent's grief over Chisha's HeroicSacrifice for him, Subaru notes how their best efforts together only amounted to breaking the furniture in the room, as opposed to the truly powerful who can break entire buildings as collateral in a similar exchange. He points this out to highlight to Vincent how they each need the other's strength despite their differences, because [[NotSoDifferentRemark both of them are too weak to achieve their grand ambitions of protecting others alone]].
* FlamingSword: Like his half-sister Priscilla, he is able to summon and use the Yang Sword Vollachia.
* HeroicSacrifice: It's eventually revealed that Vincent has spent most of his life and reign as Emperor preparing to commit one of these, even if he doesn't know exactly when it'll occur. The [[{{Seers}} Stargazer]] Ubilk foretold that one of 4 calamities in the world's future, the 'Great Disaster', is fated to commence upon Vincent's death. Aware from past experiences with Stargazers that [[YouCantFightFate trying to avoid the Disaster commencing will only ensure it does]], Vincent instead has [[FaceDeathWithDignity made his peace]] with the fact that he's fated to die someday, and seized the throne of Vollachia only to ensure the country was prepared and strong enough to survive the Disaster without his leadership. He even had Chisha Gold become his BodyDouble not to have him die in his place, but to ensure that [[ElCidPloy the people would still rally around the figure of 'Vincent Vollachia']] after his death to survive. When Chisha instead uses his talents to ensure ''he'' becomes the 'Vincent' that is killed, Vincent is [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness uncharacteristically upset]] by somebody dying for his sake.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: {{Inverted|trope}}. The recounting of the Royal Selection made it clear that Vincent can summon the Yang sword like the rest of his competing siblings as [[OnlyTheWorthyMayPass proof of his worthiness]] to hold the throne. However, when he meets up with Subaru after being deposed following the Civil War and political coup against him, he seems either incapable or unwilling to summon the sword even when his life is literally on the line, leaving him handicapped significantly in a fight. This contrasts with his half-sister's liberal usage of the same blade as her go-to weapon in a fight, and on his reunion with Prisha/Priscilla, he even concernedly (for him) asks how many times she's summoned the blade herself, implying that there is some unknown cost to using it the way she does, or that following the Royal Selection, Vincent [[ThereCanOnlyBeOne cannot wield the sword as long as Priscilla does]].
* InvisibilityCloak: One of the tools Vincent retrieved from the dead drop was this, albeit it only works when the user holds their breath, limiting its usefulness except as passive defence to get the drop on people looking for him.
* KingIncognito: When a coup d'état occurred in the Imperial Capital, Vincent went into hiding at the Buddheim Jungle, where he lived with the Shudrak Clan, and took the name Abel.
* LordCountry: After becoming TheEmperor of the Vollachia Empire, his surname changed from Abellux to Vollachia.
* NobleFugitive: He stepped down from his position and fled the Imperial Capital after a coup d'état was sprung against him by Prime Minister Berstetz Fondalfon and supposed conspirator Chisha Gold.
* NotSoStoic: After he survived his "fated" death, Vincent is left emotionally distraught underneath his stoic exterior over Chisha's sacrifice for his sake, becoming more caustic towards Subaru, whom he erroneously believes to be a [[{{Seers}} Stargazer]] from witnessing his impossible successes through [[SaveScumming Return by Death]], and believing that Subaru "chose" to let Chisha die instead of him according to the grand design all Stargazers seek to enact. Learning about this and Vincent's [[YouCantFightFate perspective]] behind his actions enrages Subaru, provoking a vicious WimpFight between the two that eventually results in Vincent brokenly admitting that he had [[NotAfraidToDie resolved himself for death]], but not for a future where he would be forced to suffer the loss of a close ally for him to live instead. Subaru, having experienced the similar loss of Rem, Otto and Garfiel in erased loops, [[NotSoDifferentRemark sympathizes]].
* PowersDoTheFighting: PlayedWith. Abel isn't ''entirely'' inept in combat (otherwise he'd never have become the Emperor of [[StrengthEqualsWorthiness Vollachia]] in the first place and gained such UndyingLoyalty from his followers) but he is noticeably lacking in comparison to his front-line fighters. The main danger he brings in a fight comes from his ability to summon and use [[PlayingWithFire the Yang sword, Vollachia]], and whilst he was apparently skilled enough in using it to enact a pitched duel with his half-sister Prisha during the Royal Selection (albeit said fight was secretly staged to trick their competitors) he seems incapable or unwilling to use it by present, instead making do with other means of fighting like swords, mana-storing hidden weapons, or precise tactical use of his environment to outmaneuver his opponent. It says something that bereft of the Yang sword, Vincent's showing in a fight is barely better than Subaru's.
* RealNameAsAnAlias: In Arc 7, he introduces himself as Abel, a short form of his actual surname '''Abel'''lux. He reveals his full name at the end of Chapter 12.
* RightfulKingReturns: He has apparently been deposed in a coup when the Nine Divine Generals and his Prime Minister rebelled and aims to restore his status as TheEmperor, starting Arc 7 proper.
* RingOfPower: Amongst the supplies that Vincent retrieved from the dead drop was a ring that, if one kissed the jewel inlaid on it, would allow the user to cast fire magic from a limited store of mana within. This allowed Subaru to use magic during the Lifeblood ritual, despite his limitations with his broken gate, but unfortunately Subaru was forced to detonate the ring as part of a FinishingMove upon the Mabeast they were forced to fight.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Much like his half-sister Priscilla/Prisha, Vincent had no knowledge of peeled appa. Subaru has to instruct him on how to properly peel and prepare an appa himself.
* WeakButSkilled: Vincent's combat skills are far from his strongest asset, ironically enough for an emperor of a country where AsskickingLeadsToLeadership. When he and Subaru are forced to undergo a lifeblood ritual to earn the loyalty of the Shudrach Clan, overcoming a massive snake Mabeast in combat, Vincent is hardly better in a fight than [[TheTeamNormal Subaru]]. Their attempt to AttackItsWeakPoint fails because Vincent isn't strong enough to completely slice through the Mabeast's horn, getting his sword stuck mid-way through it and forcing Subaru to detonate his RingOfPower, along with [[AnArmAndALeg his hand]], to finish it off.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: [[spoiler:After she helped Vincent in faking Priscilla/Prisha's death, despite Prisha being aware of [[BreakHerheartToSaveHer the reasoning]] behind Arakiya's betrayal, the fact that she still betrayed her regardless means that Prisha can no longer have her former ally serve her, and she coldly spurns Arakiya's affections when they meet again face to face, making it clear to her that they are enemies no matter what.]]

A Vollachian soldier who initially seems like the only friendly face that Subaru can find for miles. His easy-going nature hides a devastatingly sharp intellect and ruthless attitude towards those he deems a threat to himself.
----
* BerserkButton: He won't allow anyone who even ''tries'' to tell him a lie and deceive him lives to tell the tale. Whenever he perceives someone is lying, he usually immediately attacks them with lethal force or in the quickest way to incapacitate them with zero warning.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He puts on a charming and affable facade to get people to lower their guards. In actuality, he's extremely paranoid, ruthless and murderous to a disturbing degree.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: [[spoiler:Following his [[UncertainDoom apparent death]] by drowning in the flash-flood of the destroyed royal capital, the web novel gives him an epilogue chapter similar to Regulus Corneas, which in the latter's case explained his past and perspectives. However, once the chapter outlines all of Todd's actions shown in the novel so far, ''his dialogue cuts it off'' to prevent anything more being said about him and his past.]]
-->'''Todd:''' ――I have no intention of telling you anything more than that, man.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: Todd's preferred weapon is an axe he keeps strapped to his hip and he's surprisingly quick to use it at the slightest suspicion that somebody could be a danger to him. It's implied to be a tactical choice because the heavy bladed head allows Todd to efficiently exert his meagre physical strength for a decisive blow -- a choice designed not for frontal fighting, but for lethal sneak attacks. This compliments Todd's relentless aggression towards Subaru, desiring to see him dead above all else with an insane mania. Whilst it later gets revealed that he's not crazy, his [[ImproperlyParanoid extreme paranoia]] and obsession with eliminating threats drive him to extremes that make him not that different from a madman. Subaru unironically compares him to the Sin Archbishops for a reason.
* ColorMotif: When a member of the Cyclops tribe activates his race's unique AuraVision ability against him, he discovers that Todd's aura is blue, a colour normally denoted to those who [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere desire to flee the fighting from either panic or fear]], despite Todd still possessing [[DissonantSerenity an external calm demeanor]].
* CombatPragmatist: Todd doesn't believe in fighting fair. ''At all''. If he can kill somebody, and he decides they need to die, he'll kill them in the same moment he decides that's what he needs to do- no gloating, no forewarning, just instant death before they can react. If his opponents don't see him coming or don't know he's there, he'll take full advantage of that to take them out instantly without risking a fight.
* ControlFreak: His underlying motivation is a paranoiac desire to live a life as safely as possible despite considering practically everybody around him either a threat or a possible threat he's not yet discovered. To this end, Todd always manipulates people around him to twist his situation towards one he favours and will instantly resort to murder if he thinks the situation justifies it, all to ensure people either don't see him as a threat or die before they can interfere with him.
* CrazyPrepared:
** Todd off-handidly mentions to Jamal that he always spends his time off side cities observing and investigating the layout, so he can know how to easily navigate it in a crisis situation, or more usually to flee along the path of minimal danger.
** When ordered to eliminate all the gladiators on the Gladiator Island, Todd's first tactic is to use the official orders from the Prime Minister to have the island Governor Gustav Moral activate the curse rule that binds all the inhabitants on the island, killing them in one decisive swoop before they even know they're in danger. When Gustav refuses, Todd reveals that he'd pre-planned with Arakiya to unleash a decisive and silent killing blow using a [[KillItWithWater high-pressure water attack]] from her Spirit Eating should Moral be uncooperative, killing him before he can even stand up. When Subaru steals the curse tool that activates the killing commandment from Todd's hands, he pins Gustav's death on him to turn the guards and watchdog Mabeasts on him, whilst having Arakiya move through the island and use more water attacks to silently eliminate everybody one by one without them realizing whilst simultaneously hunting Subaru down, resulting in the body count quietly rising in the growing chaos. When confronting Subaru, Todd prevents him convincing the guards accompanying him to support the Gladiators by killing them before they can make their minds up and using their bodies to attract Mabeasts against Subaru's group, furthermore using the chaotic environment along with his knives, axe and decisiveness to steadily eliminate Subaru's allies one by one. Ultimately, he's just ''so efficient'' that the only way Subaru can save everybody is [[spoiler:exploiting Todd's paranoia to prevent him stepping onto the island in the first place]].
** When he's ordered to accompany Arakiya around the country to try and put down the brewing rebellion/civil war that's erupting, it's revealed that Todd intentionally uses cypher language and incorrect notes on the map he's using to trace the movement of the rebels so that nobody but him can decipher it, meaning either it cannot be used against him, or the enemy would keep him alive in order to use it.
* CrocodileTears: When Jamal apparently pulls a HeroicSacrifice to allow him to flee whilst he holds off their pursuers, he pretends to be greatly upset over the loss in order to get Arakiya to sympathize with him and thus aid him in reaching the Capital's safety. In actuality, he ''immediately'' started writing off Jamal inside his own head once he believed he was dead, as he does for everybody he kills.
* CursedWithAwesome: [[spoiler:When he tries to kill Subaru again in the Imperial Capital, he winds up falling on his own axe blade, sustaining what should have been a fatal wound for an "ordinary" human, and whilst Todd's healing lets him shrug it off, having his ability and DarkSecret of being a werewolf exposed to another ''really'' breaks Todd's composure.]]
* DavidVersusGoliath: PlayedWith in his final fight with Subaru. [[spoiler:When Subaru pre-empts his sneak-attack at the Imperial Capital, Todd is forced into a physical confrontation with him thanks to Subaru using Invisible Providence to halt his axe-swings, trying to force the blade of the weapon down onto him despite the invisible force resisting and Subaru's bare hands holding the blade away. Despite the fact that Subaru has been de-aged into a young child's body, it's a visible struggle for Todd to overcome him and he has to wait until the rebound from Invisible Providence starts to make Subaru falter. Even when he assumes his muscular WolfMan form, it doesn't seem to come with a noticeable increase in strength, and when Subaru knocks his axe out of his claws and Todd falls back on [[ManBitesMan tearing his throat out with his fangs]], Subaru again is able to hold him off for a few seconds with a knife stabbed into Todd's jaw.]]
* DeliberateInjuryGambit:
** Todd uses [[spoiler:his werewolf-given HealingFactor subtly]], invoking serious injuries on himself and pretending to be incapacitated from them to make others lower their guard, only to them recover swiftly and launch a lethal attack, furthermore hiding that [[spoiler:he does have regenerative abilities by pretending he was faking the extent of his wounds.]]
** [[spoiler:At the start of his final confrontation with Subaru in the capital city, Todd fakes being badly injured following an explosion they used to kill a revived corpse soldier to get Subaru to lower his guard, aiming to split his head in half the second Subaru lowers his guard. Subaru predicts this course of action based on Todd's prior behaviour.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Todd is utterly committed to doing whatever he has to ensure a happy, safe life for himself and Katya, despite his risk aversion to danger and living in the [[StrengthEqualsWorthiness Vollachian Empire]]. He takes on dangerous roles like a front-line soldier, but only so far as it will give him to opportunity to accumulate merit, and he always exhaustively plans for betrayal or danger at every moment to [[CrazyPrepared always be prepared]] with the best chances of survival. This trait is why Katya has faith in him to always survive no matter what situation he comes across. Unfortunately, this determination pairs nastily with a willingness to screw over even his ostensible allies to [[ItsAllAboutMe ensure his own safety]] and a commitment to wiping out potential danger, leading to him doing to extremes like causing mass collateral damage when trying to kill Subaru despite the latter's unwillingness to fight him, out of his certainty that Subaru is a threat that he ''must'' eliminate.
* DetrimentalDetermination:
** Todd is utterly obsessed with removing anything that he perceives as possibly being a threat to his wellbeing, particularly [[ControlFreak unclear variables that he can't fully understand]], believing that he can only truly have peace of mind when these potential threats are dead, no matter how remote the chances of them opposing him are. This attitude, once exposed to others, makes him somebody they all understand is a foe that ''must'' be faced with serious intent if they want to survive, though on the flip side, Todd is so [[NoNonsenseNemesis highly efficient]] with his methods that he never leaves anybody alive once he's decided they need to die, and is exhaustively prepared with multiple contingencies every step of the way to steadily corner them if given enough time. It's this precise attitude that makes him [[ForWantOfANail constantly target Subaru]] when crossing paths with him, even when meeting him for the "first" time in new loops or under different identities [[spoiler:such as Subaru being [[FountainOfYouth de-aged into a young boy]]]]. Thanks to [[SaveScumming Return by Death]], his actions send Subaru back in time with forewarning of Todd's intentions and future actions, enabling Subaru to attempt to counter those, which only [[SelfFulfillingProphecy reinforces Todd's attempts to kill him]], again forcing Subaru to loop should he succeed.
** His final attack on Subaru at the Imperial capital is full of this: [[spoiler:When Subaru counters the attempt thanks to predicting Todd's action and angrily calls him out for needlessly attacking him when Subaru has done nothing to provoke Todd's animosity directly and Subaru was willing to overlook Todd's erased actions in the hope they wouldn't need to fight at all, Todd callously calls the notion foolish and states he and Subaru are [[ArchEnemy natural enemies]] who can never understand each other, and he will always try to kill Subaru to feel safe no matter what. His final attempt to sneak-attack Subaru in werewolf form to ensure his demise only results in Rem knocking him back into the flash-flooding of the capital when its dam breaks, apparently drowning Todd out of his stubborn refusal to stop trying to kill Subaru]].
* DeviousDaggers: Whilst he primarily uses his axe as a weapon, he also has a couple of knives on him that he uses for sneak attacks should the enemy be too focused on the obvious weapon or as a mid-ranged method of safely striking from afar in the opponent's blind spots.
* DirtyCoward: His extreme decisiveness and swiftness in taking out threats seems to be rooted in an earnest desire to eliminate anything that could possibly threaten his life, with it being pretty clear that he's doing it [[ItsAllAboutMe mainly for his own benefit]] and not for the sake of the army or Vollachia's glory. Furthermore, whilst he's not afraid to risk his life if absolutely necessary, he only does so with extreme reluctance, usually trying to calculate some means of minimizing the risk or extracting himself from the situation with all haste, and when faced with opponents weaker than him, usually attempts to just kill them with minimal hesitation because [[MurderIsTheBestSolution they're less of a potential threat to him dead than alive]]. Subaru is able to turn this against him in Guaral, escaping Todd's meticulously-prepared ambush simply by shouting out that he's aware Todd is about to attack him, counting on the fact that Todd will refuse to engage is there's even the slightest chance his opponent could retaliate against him.
* DisproportionateRetribution: The fact that Subaru proved capable of outthinking him ''once'' out of necessity to escape his situation made Todd laser-focused on killing him at all costs afterwards, regardless of any other factors, fully believing that Subaru is a dangerous existence who must be decisively eliminated for his peace of mind, and setting up multiple plans and moves that prove capable of killing people and eventually Subaru no matter what moves he makes to counter him, inevitably driving Subaru into a corner through sheer ruthless pragmatism.
* TheDreaded: Subaru's encounters with him leave him understandably terrified and intimidated by him after multiple successive loops, realizing the extent of Todd's sociopathic nature, almost inhuman efficiently, insight and decisiveness with taking out threats. Ironically, Todd's reasoning and the extremes to which he resorts to killing Subaru make it clear that Subaru is becoming terrifying to ''him'', and he even privately considers him the 'poster child of war', in a few loops sincerely believing that Subaru will become a threat to the empire itself if not dealt with.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: His antagonism with Subaru is born out of him being unable to understand Subaru's willingness to risk himself contrasted with the manipulative traits he has in common with Todd, which the latter uses in a thoroughly self-serving way. This confusion compels Todd to just eliminate Subaru at the earliest convince, no matter what circumstances he meets him under, as his [[ControlFreak only measure of regaining the control he seeks when in Subaru's presence]].
* EvilIsPetty: Todd realizes that Subaru actually deceived him and lured him and a patrol into an ambush by a mabeast. This elevates Subaru in Todd's eyes to the level of a threat that ''must'' be eliminated, apparently unable to stand the idea that there's somebody in the world capable of tricking him like he uses everybody else around him.
* EvilRedhead: He has orange hair and is one of the most dangerous villains in the series who isn't part of the Witch Cult.
* FairWeatherFriend: To Jamal. Todd befriended Jamal out of recognition for his fighting skills, recognizing that it was better to have him as an ally than an enemy, even becoming betrothed to Jamal's sister for his own sake than any genuine care for her. They may seem like close friends, but Todd will gladly sell him out and let him die if he thinks that's gonna save his own skin. After Jamal has apparently died, Todd admits that he could only ever consider Jamal his best friend with absolute honesty in that moment, as the dead cannot betray him, so Jamal's support of him would be left unsullied.
* FalseFriend: When he first meets Subaru, he believes he's Vollachian nobility due to an ornate dagger Vincent gave Subaru for defense from their brief encounter in the woods. To this end, he befriends him and indirectly manipulates him into admitting that venturing into the woods is dangerous for the soldiers due to Subaru's encounter with an unknown "hunter" who killed him in prior loops, believed to be a member of the [[AmazonBrigade Suderach tribe]], famed for their combat skills. Todd uses this to argue his commanding officer into just [[CuttingTheKnot setting the entire forest on fire]], killing several of the Suderach and likely also Vincent as well from a safe distance.
* FalselyReformedVillain: Five years before the start of the main story, Todd was a bandit in the city of Garkla. After the destruction of the city resulting from the Sin Archbishop of Greed ten years prior, numerous factions of bandits came into the city under one union and interfered with the rebuilding process. Todd, at the time one of their leaders, wanted to quit being a bandit and join the Imperial Army as a respected soldier from the very start of his tenure, aiming to do this by gathering all of the other bandit leaders and turning them in at once. However, Jamal, then a soldier who was stationed in Garkla at that time, accidental derailed Todd's plan by killing one of the leaders, causing the bandits to lose their morale and end their assault on Garkla. While he's currently a soldier, Todd will go to any extremes he deems necessary to kill Subaru just because he sees him as dangerous.
* FeelingOppressedByTheirExistence: When Todd ambushes Subaru in Guaral during one of the death loops, he admits [[NothingPersonal he holds no personal enmity towards him]]. However, Todd sees Subaru as a dangerous existence that he can't tolerate, and thus will devote all his energies to wiping him out regardless of the cost. Subaru's attempts to avert conflict with Todd are ignored or dismissed out of hand as Todd pushes his one-sided vendetta against Subaru, seeing them being enemies as the natural course of events and genuinely unable or unwilling to grasp any other outcome to their encounters.
* FrameUp: When Subaru tries to pre-empt his massacre by stealing the Curse tool, Todd swiftly pins the blame of Gustav's death on him to turn the guards against him, whilst ordering Arakiya to steadily kill each individual on the island one by one in the chaotic search for him.
* FreudianExcuse: His all-consuming paranoia is revealed to stem from [[spoiler:his nature as a werewolf, a persecuted race within Vollachia, thus he has actually lived every day of his life surrounded by enemies who would be happy to kill him without a second thought should they discover his DarkSecret.]]
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: [[spoiler: After hearing about how his race's past history has forced him to live a calculated life to keep his secret hidden, explaining his paranoia, Subaru tells Todd that he doesn't hate him for being a werewolf. He does, however, hate him for his actions and repeated attempts on his life. Unwilling to accept that Subaru genuinely doesn't care about his werewolf nature and further enraged that Subaru refuses to try and kill him regardless, as [[IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim it would only justify Todd's view of the world]], drives Todd into a VillainousBreakdown.]]
* HannibalLecture: {{Invoked|Trope}}. One of Todd's more insidious tactics is intentionally monologuing towards his targets either as a distraction whilst he sizes them up and looks for the best moment to strike, or to [[BreakThemByTalking emotionally devastate them with his words]], such as giving Subaru time to process that Weitz performed a HeroicSacrifice to save him just to leave him off-balance from grief so he can more efficiently strike him down without retaliation. He also [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech calls Subaru out]] for being able to tell that [[spoiler:Subaru was considering whether or not to help save his fiancée Katya or leave her behind in the chaotic fighting rather than [[TeethClenchedteamwork ally with Todd]]]] to achieve the same effect. His own LackOfEmpathy makes any attempt to reverse this [[ShutUpKirk incredibly inefficient]].
* HealingFactor: [[spoiler:As a result of his half-wolfman lineage, Todd can survive injuries that would be fatal for regular humans. Although, it's not as powerful as Garfiel's regenerative abilities, as Todd is still visibly wounded on his head and chest in his WolfMan form, suggesting it is just strong enough to close his injuries up without allowing him to completely undo them.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
** Todd gets Arakiya on his side by telling her how Jamal pulled a HeroicSacrifice to enable him to flee Guural with her in her injured state, telling her that he wants to avenge his friend to gain her sympathy. In actuality, this is just a lie to ensure she'll help him reach the imperial capital and the safety it provides without giving Todd undue trouble. However, this lies resonates too much with Arakiya, given her past UndyingLoyalty to Prisha/[[spoiler:Priscilla]], and upon reaching the capital Arakiya requests Todd be made her direct subordinate when she's next sent out into the front lines, hoping to give him a chance to "avenge" Jamal. Todd mentally gripes that he can't refuse the position despite it being the ''exact opposite'' of what he wanted to achieve when he lied to her.
** Todd's preferred weapon is his hip-strapped axe, making creative and efficient use of it to kill Subaru in multiple loops. [[spoiler:In his final attack on Subaru at the Imperial capital, Todd's manages to pin Subaru down and tries to force the axe blade into his chest, leaning his full weight on it whilst Subaru uses Invisible Providence and [[BarehandedBladeBlock his bare hands]] to resist. When the Capital's reservoir breaks, the noise distracts Todd for a second, allowing Subaru to shove the blade to the side and roll away whilst Todd falls down from the sudden shift in resistance, winding up with the axe blade slicing deeply into his stomach. Whilst a fatal wound normally, Todd winds up shrugging it off thanks to his HealingFactor, but having it and his true identity as a HalfHumanHybrid werewolf exposed ''severely'' undermines Todd's composure, helping to drive him into a VillainousBreakdown over Subaru discovering his DarkSecret]].
** During his final confrontation with Subaru in the Royal Capital, when Subaru manages to disarm his Axe with Invisible Providence after his failed sneak attack, he chucks a knife into his leg as a distraction to reclaim his weapon and prevent Subaru fleeing. [[spoiler:When Todd flies into a VillainousBreakdown over having his DarkSecret exposed and fully transforms into his WolfMan form to kill Subaru no matter what, Subaru is able to stop him briefly from [[ManBitesMan tearing his throat out]] by stabbing Todd in the jaw with the self-same knife, even if he's gradually overpowered]].
** [[spoiler:Todd assumes his full WolfMan form as a means of ensuring Subaru's death once the latter [[FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse rejects his motivation]] for targeting him. Whilst it possesses some advantages, his inhuman state means that their fight is essentially a monster attacking and trying to kill a young boy, resulting in Emilia instantly attacking Todd to save Subaru when she comes across the scene, despite lacking any context. When Todd appears to have been swept away by the flood waters from the broken dam, he makes one final attempt to sneak-attack Subaru when he and Emilia have let their guards down, only for Rem to [[BigDamnHeroes step in]] and hit him with his own discarded axe, knocking him backwards into the rushing water for real and [[UncertainDoom apparently]] leading to his demise]].
* HyperAwareness: When meeting Subaru for the "first" time, he realizes he's being manipulative towards him and Jamal, based solely on the way his eyes looked, and instantly stabs him in his right shoulder.
* HyperCompetentSidekick: With emphasis on the ''hyper-competency''. Todd fashions himself as this to whomever he meets, whether the army generals he was working under, Jamal (albeit their relationship was more [[ThoseTwoGuys a mutual partnership]]) or Arakiya, he proves himself to be an efficient and valuable asset to them that can take inventive action to achieve their objectives with minimal effort or risk. This is [[DeconstructedTrope part of his paranoid and sociopathic nature]]. By making himself the sidekick to whomever is taking charge, Todd can effectively manipulate their plan of attack whilst avoiding being recognised as a figure of importance to target, and allowing himself to slip away unnoticed whilst his "allies" are involved in the fighting if he deems it necessary. Subaru later deduces whilst facing him on the gladiator island that Todd's efficiently is so high because he trusts ''literally'' nobody, and is thus always prepared to do things by himself from the start without relying on others, in contrast to [[SupportPartyMember Subaru]].
* ImproperlyParanoid: His entire antagonism with Subaru comes down to the latter having to deceive him by necessity to avoid getting instantly killed once Todd correctly perceived a "looped" Subaru is being more manipulative than he seems and assuming the worst, and him successfully tricking Todd to escape afterwards elevated him in Todd's opinion to a "threat that ''must'' be eliminated", even prioritizing Subaru's death over anything that would be more beneficial to the Vollachian army. At one point, his constant ambushing of Subaru does nothing but [[NiceJobFixingItVillain force him to seek aid by joining in Vincent's plan to retake his throne]] when Subaru was actually trying to ''leave'' Vollachia at the first chance he got. In essence, Todd correctly assessed Subaru to be more dangerous than he seems and refuses to underestimate him, but this self-same assessment also drives him to ensure Subaru is dead no matter what, even when Subaru doesn't ''want'' to fight him.
* InSpiteOfANail: [[spoiler:In the loop where Todd is finally defeated, Subaru is in the body of a child and has had no confrontation with Todd in that body during the current loop. And yet, Todd ''still'' views him as a dangerous unknown threat to him. When Subaru screams at him that he was willing to overlook Todd's past actions in erased loops, Todd just brushes this off, stating that [[ArchEnemy their natures are utterly incompatible]], thus he will always been compelled to kill Subaru no matter what for his peace of mind.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: He doesn't care about ''anything'' but his own safety and comfort. The ultimate sign of this comes when Jamal pulls a HeroicSacrifice to allow Todd to flee Guural with the wounded Arakiya. Todd's POV shows that he cannot even remember which side of his face Jamal wears his EyepatchOfPower on properly, showing how little he bothered to remember his "closest" ally's appearance despite their apparent bond. He even mentally coaches himself afterwards to remember Jamal's face so he doesn't slip up when talking about him with Arakiya, who believes Todd wants to avenge Jamal's sacrifice and thus takes him along with her when fighting Vincent's rebellion, whereas Todd was only keeping up said pretense to [[FalseFriend use Arakiya's strength]] for his own benefit, and is actually disgruntled at being forced to leave the safety of the capital to head towards the front lines.
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** Todd [[BlatantLies pretends to be upset]] over Jamal's HeroicSacrifice to Arakiya to gain her sympathy and ensure safe passage to the Imperial Capital, when in actuality he's already started mentally forgetting about Jamal the second he believed he was dead. This winds up resonating with the naive but powerful general so much (due to her own UndyingLoyalty to Prisha) that Arakiya insists Todd be made her direct subordinate when she's again deployed to the front lines, so he has the opportunity to "avenge" Jamal, dragging Todd away from the safety of the Capital that was the only thing he really cared about whilst Todd cannot refuse or be exposed as a liar, to his frustration.
** [[spoiler:In his VillainousBreakdown over Subaru [[FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse refusing to accept his Werewolf nature as a valid reason to fight him]] and his [[EvilCannotComprehendGood inability to understand Subaru]] compelling him to kill him no matter what, Todd assumes his full WolfMan form to ensure Subaru's death. This means that he looks like a monster trying to kill a defenseless boy, leading to the same instant decisiveness that defines his aggressive actions towards "threats" being turned ''against'' him by Emilia and Rem, both of whom attack him in a split second when he's inches away from landing a lethal strike on him]].
** Prior to leaving for Chaosflame, Subaru struggles with some guilt he feels towards the amnesiac Rem's currently weakened body after her awakening, as he feels happy that it ensures she can't run away from him despite Rem having no trust in Subaru thanks to smelling the miasma on him and his aggression towards the apparently-innocent [[spoiler:amnesiac Louis]]. Whilst Subaru acknowledges that this is his own selfish opinion and he should want Rem to be healthy and free to act on her own choices, in contrast, a few chapters from Todd's POV have him expressing nothing but satisfaction towards his own fiancée Katya's infirm body and [[ExtremeDoormat weak mindset]], as these ensure she has no reason or means of betraying him, disregarding how Katya herself feels about her condition in favour of how it's beneficial to himself. [[spoiler:His last attempt to kill Subaru at the Imperial capital is thwarted by Rem, now recovered enough to move on her own, choosing to step in and save Subaru of her own free will and apparently resulting in Todd's [[KillItWithWater demise]] at the hands of his fiancé's {{Foil}}, essentially being defeated by a true partnership between Subaru and Rem even if the latter no longer remembers it]].
* LivingLieDetector: His perceptiveness and attentiveness to everyone and everything around him enables him to instantly tell when somebody is lying or being deceitful towards him, [[spoiler:aided by his subtly using his SuperSenses to further pointing minute tells in their behaviour]]. This is particularly troublesome when his instinctive reaction to liars is to try and kill them.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: He claims most of his ruthless actions are so he can go home to his fiancée Katya safe and unharmed, unlike so many others who foolishly die on the battlefield. Unfortunately, Todd's apparent love for Katya drives him to ruthless extremes in wiping out his enemies regardless of how immoral the method.
* ManipulativeBastard: His intelligence is by far his greatest asset, backed up by his ruthless monopolization of everybody around him for his own gain to seize the advantage wherever he can, regardless of how many get tricked, hurt or killed along the way.
* MeaningfulName: Todd ''Fang'' is a fitting name for [[spoiler: a werewolf]].
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: His go-to solution to any even remotely possible threat to his life is killing people.
** Subaru initially meets Todd when his battalion are assigned to the Buddheim Jungle to look for the [[AmazonBrigade Shudraq tribe]], under orders form the higher-ups to ensure they maintain loyalty to the Empire (mainly as a means of preventing Vincent from being able to use them in his coup). Due to the reputation of the Shudraqs for being proud warrior hunters, Todd judged the mission to be excessively risky to venture into their territory to demand they honour their oath. Instead when changing upon Subaru, he manipulated him into admitting he's encountered a dangerous hunter inside the forest who nearly killed him, using that as proof to argue his commanding officer into just [[KillItWithFire setting the forest on fire]], resulting in both the unprovoked tribe and Vincent burning to death in loops he successfully pulls the tactics off in.
** A side-story in Vol 27 reveals that his patrol actually managed to kill the snake mabeast Subaru set on them without any casualties, but Todd, under the belief that Subaru was a Shudrachian spy and was leading them into an ambush, discreetly poisoned the patrol's water supply with the snake's venom and then mercilessly killed them all after sending Jamal away on an errand, aware he could never convince them it's be too dangerous to pursue Subaru and that they'd report him for desertion otherwise, [[ColdEquation thus killing them all was simply the best choice for him]].
** When Subaru attempts to use the misconception that [[spoiler:his [[FountainOfYouth de-aged body]] and resemblance to Vincent means he's the secret heir to the Vollachian Throne]] to sway the guards on the Gladiator island from attacking him, Todd instantly decapitates the two he's standing beside before they can make a choice and uses their corpses to attract the island's Mabeasts (used as guard dogs) against Subaru and his companions. He furthermore alternates with devastating attacks with his axe whilst his opponents are distracted by the chaos or using his axe as a distraction whilst going for lethal attacks with hidden knives to steadily kill each of Subaru's allies one by one, being so efficient at this that Subaru utterly fails to save any of them no matter how many times he loops through the fight.
** During the fight at the Imperial Capital, Todd uses coerced spirits to track down Otto, using his blessing to gather information about troop movements, aiming to cut off the flow of information whilst suffering the least possible amount of risk doing so. Despite being unaware of whom Otto is or how he's doing it, and his "enemies" being just a non-combatant, an underage girl in Petra, and Medium, Todd is no less ruthless in trying to kill them based solely on his gut instinct that they're threats to him.
--->'''Otto:''' No mercy for women and children? That's pretty barbaric, don't you think?\
'''Todd:''' It's easy to just answer "There are no women or children in the battlefield", but that would fit the residents of the Imperial Capital perfectly. Besides, wouldn't that be a bit too convenient?...If you were non-combatants who'd just been left behind on the battlefield, your current logic might’ve held. But I don't recognize a man who serves on the battlefield as a non-combatant... Who knows. But my gut is telling me. You're the root of all evil in this war. And my gut also tells me this --It's better not to waste time with you guys either.
* MusclesAreMeaningful: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Todd is pretty fit and in good shape, as can be expected of a front-line soldier, but his slim build belies that he's not anywhere close to the strongest fighter around, not unlike Subaru. His preference on using an axe to fight is hinted to be because the weapon allows him to exert his meagre strength efficiently to make decisive cutting attacks to kill his foes, and Todd's fighting style avoids him ever directly clashing with another in a head-to-head bout of strength, instead using distractions and his [[HiddenWeapons knives]] as needed to strike a fatal blow if he can't take an opponent by surprise. [[spoiler:When fighting Subaru in the capital, even when using Invisible Providence to resist, Todd struggles to overpower him in the body of a young boy, and when he assumes his WolfMan form, despite its muscular physique, it doesn't seem to come with a major boost to Todd's strength, allowing Subaru to resist him tearing his throat out with a knife jammed into Todd's jaw]].
* NeverFoundTheBody: [[spoiler:At the climax of his attack on Subaru at the Imperial Capital, he makes one final attempt to sneak-attack Subaru from behind when Subaru is rescued by Emilia from the flash-flood from the broken Reservoir, trying to bite his neck from behind as Subaru rests on the lip of a building just above the flood waters. Rem [[BifDammheroes steps in at the last moment]] and hits the monstrous Todd with his own discarded axe, knocking him backwards into the flood water and apparently leading to him [[KillItWithWater drowning in the chaotic maelstrom]]. Despite acknowledging that he didn't ''see'' him die, Subaru afterwards insists to Katya that Todd definitely drowned. Making it further unclear, it's revealed in a subsequent chapter that part of the revived forces' strategy in besieging the capital is casting an effect that revives those living beings who die in combat as Corpse Soldiers for their side, with Jamal and Katya later on discussing with each other if Todd would be amongst their number, leaving the possibility that he might come BackFromTheDead.]]
* NoNonsenseNemesis: This is Todd's defining trait. He utterly refuses to take any risks with possible threats and works to eliminate them near-instantly the second he identifies one, without gloating, bragging, or giving his target even a single chance to retaliate.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: [[spoiler: He's eventually revealed to be a werewolf. Werewolves in this setting are the result of a [[InterspeciesRomance relationship between a human and wolf demi-human]]. This grants Todd heightened senses and the ability to transform into a beast form at will. They are also heavily discriminated and hunted down due to a past betrayal the werewolves performed against Vollachia, explaining his paranoia.]]
* TheParanoiac: To an insane degree. Todd's intelligence and perceptiveness pairs uncomfortably with his belief that he is surrounded by potential threats at all times, leading to him manipulating people into not perceiving him as a danger to be focused on and striking with ruthless precision when their guard is down, leading to several needless deaths out of his assumption that they were going to possibly harm him.
* PowerUpLetdown: Todd is capable of [[spoiler:assuming a [[WolfMan werewolf form]] like Garfiel,]] but unlike his usage of it, Todd's has little to no benefits or advantages to be gained from [[spoiler:turning into a beastman. In human form, Todd already has SuperSenses and a Downplayed HealingFactor that subtly benefit him with assessing his situation and allowing him to deceive enemies on how well he can fight or play dead as needed, and he makes far more extensive use of those than any of the overt powers of his HalfHumanHybrid nature. Even when he ''does'' transform, the transformation doesn't seem to offer him a strength boost like Garfiel's, as he still struggles to overpower Subaru in a child's body regardless, and the only advantage it offers is letting him use his fangs as an additional weapon.]]
* PragmaticVillainy: He rescues Arakiya from Guural not out of any care for her, but precisely so he can have a reasonable excuse to return to the Imperial Capital and away from an enemy base whilst also achieving merit for the deed.
* PsychologicalProjection: A few chapters from his POV have him all but admit that the reason he prioritises attacking Subaru is realising [[NotSoDifferentRemark how similar they are]] as manipulators of their situation to gain an advantage (albeit Subaru is forced by necessity into this because of Return By Death, whereas Todd is [[TheParanoiac just like that]] [[spoiler:because of his DarkSecret of being a werewolf]]). Accordingly, after Subaru deceived him, Todd hyper-focuses on killing him at all costs to pre-empt retaliation from him, convinced Subaru will be aiming for his life because that's exactly what Todd himself would do if the situation was reversed, and [[ShutUpKirk ignoring any protests]] Subaru makes to the contrary.
--> ''In the first place, as long as the shots were being called by the poster child of war―― the man who called himself Natsumi Schwartz, dangerous people like Todd and Jamal would be the first to be dealt with.\
Even in Vollachia, executions of surrendered prisoners of war were frowned upon, but that man would certainly make up a good reason to excuse such travesties.\
[[EvilCounterpart At least, that was what Todd would do]]. [[EvilCannotComprehendGood It was a natural consideration for survival]].''
* SkewedPriorities: When Subaru lures a snake mabeast to ambush the Patrol Todd and Jamal were leading towards what they thought was the hidden Shudrach village, Todd remains focused on attempting to kill Subaru even as the patrol is being attacked by the dangerous monster, having identified that he's caused the attack somehow and had outwitted him, thus elevating Subaru to the level of "threat" in Todd's eyes and making him utterly focused on ensuring his demise.
* TheSociopath: Once Todd's true nature is revealed to Subaru upon his second revival, it becomes clear that this is what he truly is underneath the veneer of friendship and charming personality he puts on when working with others he plans to have on his side. Todd's go-to reaction to verifying that somebody might threaten him is instant lethal intent, and he shows an alarming disregard for the lives of others in favour of what benefits himself personally. Subaru, who has faced the insanity of the Sin Archbishops first-hand, notes that there's something deeply ''wrong'' with Todd, and is [[TheDreaded notably intimidated by him]] despite his comparative lack of power against the super-powered fighters of the world.
* TheUnfettered: He will stop at ''nothing'' to eliminate those he sees as a threat, as seen in his ruthless and relentless quest to kill Subaru. His tactics enable him to orchestrate a massacre on the Gladiator Island with ruthless efficiency whenever he arrives, being [[NoNonsenseNemesis so prepared and decisive with his methods]] that the only way Subaru can avoid any loss of life is again [[BatmanGambit turning this tendency back on him]]. He also blows up a bar of civilians just to catch Subaru in the blast, showcasing how he doesn't care for collateral damage in favour of what benefits himself.
* WeakButSkilled: Todd's preferred tactics are varied and diverse as befits his situation, and he always exhaustively prepares everywhere he goes for imminent betrayal so he can put one of these strategies into play at a moment's notice, but at a minimum, he goes for a decisive and silent blow to the opponent's vulnerable areas before they're even aware of his presence. This is implied to be because his own unimpressive strength means he'll be easily overpowered in a head-on fight, so he always strikes where the opponent isn't expecting him to, going for [[HiddenWeapons concealed knives]] to their vulnerable parts if they focus too much on his axe, or using some prepared distraction to go for a decisive blow with the axe. He's so efficient at this that despite looping several times through a fight with him at the Gladiator Island, Subaru is unable to save any ally that fights him.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: In their [[TeethClenchedTeamwork reluctant team-up]] in the besieged Imperial capital, [[spoiler:Subaru recognizes that a seemingly-injured Todd may be [[DeliberateInjuryGambit faking his wounds]] to make Subaru lower his guard whilst they're apparently working together to get their loved ones out of the danger zone. Despite the risk, Subaru seemingly decides to trust Todd's apparently sincere care for Katya enough to turn his back on him...only to defend himself with Invisible providence when Todd indeed tries to sneak-attack him from behind. Subaru calls out Todd for trying to kill his own ally when they're surrounded by enemies and their loved ones are imperilled, only for Todd to brush it off, claiming that Subaru makes him far too uneasy by his [[EvilCannotComprehendGood conflicting actions and intentions for Todd's liking]], and as far as he's concerned, he ''must'' kill Subaru for his peace of mind above all else, showing how Todd's paranoia and selfishness are paramount to any seeming good qualities he possesses]].
* WhyDontYaJustShootHim: Defied. If Todd decides somebody has to die, he'll kill them instantly before they can even react. Unfortunately, given he decides that [[SaveScumming Subaru]] needs to be on his hit list, this [[DetrimentalDetermination backfires on him]], as his attempts to kill Subaru only end up forcing him back in time with forewarning of Todd's future actions, which in turn, [[SelfFulfillingProphecy further convinces Todd of the necessity of Subaru having to die]] as he keeps evading and outwitting him from his perspective.
* WouldHurtAChild: When the de-aged Subaru meets Todd at the Gladiator Island Ginunhive, despite not recognizing Subaru in his younger body, Todd is no less ruthless when he detects Subaru's attempts to lie to him, sometimes killing him.

!!Jamal Aurelie
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jamal_aurelie.png]]

Todd's NumberTwo and general sidekick, his fighting skills and fearsome nature complement Todd's manipulations and charismatic personality
----
* BigBrotherInstinct: For all his unpleasant traits, he does care for his younger sister Katya.
* DualWielding: Jamal's preferred weapons are a pair of sword that he's quite adept with, using either for offence or defense as needed with surprising skill for somebody who looks and acts like a back-alley thug most of the time.
* EyepatchOfPower: Jamal wears an eyepatch over his right eye, and is quite adept at fighting in spite of it.
* EyeScream: Todd comments that Jamal lost his right eye in some manner that came about from disregarding Todd's more cautious advice, which is why he tends to defer to Todd's more pragmatic viewpoint in arguments, given the sore reminder it represents. [[spoiler:However, Todd's lack of care for him as a person leads to him misremembering which side of his face the eyepatch is on]].
* ForgottenFallenFriend: Chillingly {{Inverted}}, but played straight at the same time. [[spoiler:Todd's LackOfEmpathy is so great, when Jamal stays behind to HoldTheLine and give Todd time to flee Guural with the wounded Arakiya, he writes him off as dead and ''instantly'' starts forgetting about him whilst he's still fighting, becoming unclear on which eye he'd worn his EyepatchOfPower over without even bothering to confirm Jamal actually died first. He even has to mentally coach himself to remember as many details as he can about Jamal when talking to Arakiya afterwards so he doesn't slip up and expose his disregard of his 'fallen ally', since Arakiya listens to him in part because she sympathizes with his 'loss'. Driving it home, Jamal is his brother-in-law through Katya, yet Todd cares so little about him that it's honestly a struggle for him to remember his existence despite their apparent close bond, whereas Jamal later turns up alive during the climactic fighting at the capital and looks forward to reuniting with Todd once more]].
* ImpoverishedPatrician: Katya notes that she and Jamal are from a minor noble house, and after the death of their elder brother, when members of the family heaped scorn upon Katya for her frailty, Jamal [[BigBrotherInstinct challenged them all to duels]], cut their heads off, and swore to make a name for himself and his sister as a soldier of Vollachia.
* ItsPersonal: He quickly takes offence against Subaru and his group when they arrive in the Vollacian Camp, given [[spoiler: Rem]] beat two of his men badly enough that it would limit his effectiveness in having his platoon carry out his orders. Subaru's first introduction to his is him forcing his boot into Subaru's mouth when he's BoundAndGagged, just to torment him and vent his ire with Subaru's travelling companions.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: When distant members of their noble family house disparaged Katya for her weak body and mind, Jamal unhesitatingly challenged them all to duels, beheaded them, and set out to make a name for himself as a powerful Vollachian soldier to support her.
* MessyHair: He has messy and unkempt dark brown hair.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Initially, he looks and acts in a similar capacity to [[GoldfishPoopGang Ton, Chin and Kan]] during Subaru's first day in the capital, being a recurring enemy that antagonizes Subaru for his own personal reasons and generally being a problematic obstacle that Subaru has to negotiate his way around rather than fight, but once they met again in Guaral, Jamal demonstrates that he's both vastly more stronger and skilled than his appearance suggests, easily forcing Medium back and being powerful enough that [[spoiler: rem]] expresses worry about having to fight him.

Jamal's sister and Todd's fiancée. She is a noble from the Aurélie family.
----
* BrokenBird: Her life thus far appears to have been one of great suffering and heartbreak, including the loss of those who were close to her. She attributes these misfortunes to her own terrible luck and incompetence, even blaming herself for any harm that befalls those around her.
* ChronicSelfDeprecation: Her self-esteem is painfully low, viewing herself as selfish, helpless, and undeserving of love and companionship.
* DelicateAndSickly: She has been prone to illnesses from a very young age.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: She's a brunette with pale skin, which resulted from her poor health.
* GirlishPigtails: Her hair is parted in two pigtails on both sides of her head.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Katya has faith and trust in Todd to strive no matter the odds against them. However, it also becomes clear that Katya is utterly unaware of Todd's more ruthless personality traits, and [[BitchInSheepsClothing he very pointedly goes out of his way to obscure them around her in order to make himself look better]].
* MessyHair: Much like her brother, she has messy and unkempt dark brown hair.
* MoralityPet:
** ZigZagged in her relationship with Todd. He says Katya is the only woman he's ever respected, and it becomes clear that Todd ''does'' have some semblance of care towards Katya, putting himself at uncharacteristic risk to reach her and rescue her from the Imperial capital as the chaos envelops it. However, Todd never trusted Katya with his DarkSecret [[spoiler:of being a werewolf]], showing that even the genuine affection between them is tainted by Todd's all-consuming paranoia. On top of that, side-chapters from Todd's POV have him expressing thankfulness for Katya's feebleness in both [[ExtremeDoormat mind]] and [[DelicateAndSickly body]], as they make her extremely dependent on him and thus give her no motivation to betray him, showing that Todd treats her more akin to a prized possession than an individual.
** It's played straighter with Jamal, who initially comes across as an aggressive and thuggish lout who'd just as quickly kill Subaru as talk to him, but in side-chapters when Rem gets to interact with Katya [[spoiler:during their time held hostage in the capital city]], it becomes clear that Jamal cares deeply for his frail sister, and wants her to have a happy life together with Todd, willing to risk his own well-being without a second thought for that purpose. Despite realizing that he's immensely reckless and doesn't think his actions through, Katya still loves him deeply for his unending support.
* NervousTics: She's often biting her fingernails, chewing on her lips, muttering to herself and stammering when under stress.

* BloodKnight: She joined the rebellion not because she believed it would succeed, but merely because it'd put her into conflict with the Empire and give her the chance to fight the Nine Divine Generals, wanting to test herself against them and see how many she could kill before getting taken out, viewing it as [[AGoodWayToDie a glorious death]].
* PosthumousCharacter: She was killed during her fight with Al and Arakiya.

[[spoiler:She is unaware of Al's GroundhogDayLoop powers enabling him to "restart" fights if he dies and thus formulate better tactics at surviving his next encounter, and that he actually died multiple times fighting the Mabeast before scrapping a close victory]]. She's nothing short of delighted when Al declines to join in the planned rebellion at the Gladiator island, because it gives her the excuse she's been looking for to fight him. Al himself doesn't share the sentiment and warns Hornet that a fight with him would be nothing short of disappointing, [[spoiler:proving it by ultimately killing her through [[CombatPragmatist luring her into a poison gas trap]] and refusing to finish her off in case she had [[LastBreathBullet enough strength for a final attack]], leading to her dying slowly through an "ignoble" means]].
