gumby_jd: Strange. I've been playing tabletop RP Gs since the early-80s and never heard of these 'Splat' things. Classes and races abounded, though. :) Really, if we're going to use such an obscure and unintuitive name for them, perhaps redirects for Class and Race (both currently going nowhere), and perhaps Character Class and Character Race, are in order so that people can actually find the article without having to stumble upon it by accident... (I'd do them myself, but I'm an incompetant editor, at best :)

Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: Read where this originated. "Splat" is a newer term. It depends on these things:

  1. People searching for RPG-related things on a search engine...
  2. Using an asterisk as a wild card, and...
  3. Calling the asterisk a splat.
  • So it wasn't around in The '80s. I'd prefer that redirects for Character Class and Character Race exist, too; to me, "splat" is what's left after something falls messily. That's why they called asterisks "splats" — asterisks (aka *) look like periods that fell and burst.

Robin: I think that this is made up, it's certainly not common usage, so should really be renamed. sounds to me like someone out there is trying to force a trope into existence by overwriting somethign else. Much like typing a load of asterisks over other text to get rid of it. Suggest this topic be renamed adn redirects as above added.
