But... what about an anime which talks about a boy which saves the world with a AI-like mon? And one inspired in a spin-off of a popular videogame?
If you're talking about Digimon, you're on the wrong place. Maybe. I'm talking about Mega Man NT Warrior, also known as RockMan.EXE in Japan.
Story: 3/5
Very simple. It's just the story of first two Battle Network games, but with some differences. And twists. Lan (or Netto in the japanese dub) is a little boy which receives a PET, which "resides" his NetNavi (basically a virtual Mon) MegaMan.EXE (or RockMan.EXE). Together, bot characters saves Den Tech City from evil villains, especially the World Three. It's still nice, somehow.
The first episodes are just a preparation to show you about how the world of NT Warrior works. Starting from episode 10 and ending on episode 21, there's a Tournament Arc, which involves awesome shonen-esque battles, two of them being the fight with MegaMan.EXE against a brainwashed Roll.EXE (which is his girlfriend in this universe), and the final battle involving MegaMan.EXE and ProtoMan.EXE.
Episodes 22 to 25 involves a mini-saga with Arc Villain PharaohMan.EXE (which is even more awesome than the one from the original cartoon). Episodes 28 to 31 is filler, but shows another game characters like Ms. Millions and Raoul.
Episodes 36 to 51 involves the arrival of Gospel (the new villains from the secong game), and the last episodes are just filler (much to my dismay).
Characters: 3/5
Cliche, but still nice for the time. There's The Hero Lan (and his MegaMan.EXE), The Chick Maylu (and her Roll.EXE), Big Fun Dex (and his GutsMan.EXE), Stinkin' Rich Yai (and her Glyde.EXE and Canon Foreigner Tory (and his IceMan.EXE). There's also The Rival Chaud (and his ProtoMan.EXE) and the very evil World Three.
The other characters are pretty good too, even the one-shot ones.
Anime A good anime based on games, in spite of its differences.
Obs: This is based on the first season of the anime. And I watched the original japanese version. And expect spoilers.
There's anime for different types of people. The somewhat-cliche nowadays Shonen, The beautiful and attractive shoujo, The hot-blooded (sometimes stoic) Mecha, the too-cutesy Kodomo, the darn sexy Ecchi, and the generic Isekai.

Soundtrack and Voice: 4/5
Good. Jin Hashimoto shows his skills in the OP even before JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The E Ds are pretty good too, especially "Begin the Try" by Showtaro Morikubo.
The OST is good too.
The seiyuus are also nice treat to the ear, especially Kumiko Higa as Lan and Akiko Kimura as MegaMan.EXE.
Artstyle: 3/5
Pretty nice, especially for a Xebec anime. Albeit the 3D effects are still a letdown (granted it's a 2002 anime, but still...)
Final Result: 3/5
Like I said, a good anime. Worth to watch.
