In one episode Alex actually paints the anarchist symbol in an abandoned subway that's been turned into a sort of street artists art colony. She says it just stands for her first name but this is probably Getting Crap Past The Radar both in and out of show.
Trump delenda estyeah, but her attitude kinda fits into the anarchist type, doesn't it? She's a rebellious, sarcastic teen, who doesn't give a damn about any kind of rules and doesn't respect them on purpose.
^ Alex is probably the best thing on the show but only because Selena Gomez makes it work in spite of massive Flanderization.
And you can defenitely count me as one who thinks the show took a turn for the worse when it tried to be Darker And Edgier, so I can't say I agree with this review at all.
well, I agree with this review to an extent. The show definitely had worse effects in its early seasons, but it had better comedy. Later, after the third season, it became less funny, but the episodes' themes were better plotted and the action was better, as well.
^ It didn't just become less funny, it became less entertaining period. The way many of these sitcom shows do, with the stories getting more contrived and the characters becoming flanderized far beyond their original appeal and likability.
You're right. When the show went grimdark, I almost turned it off, totally forgetting Alex.
I'M GOING TO GET OUT OF THE U.S, WITH OR WITHOUT YOU!!!^ "Totally forgetting Alex". What does that mean?
Speaking of whom, they're almost turning Alex into Alex with the way the show is now. I'm thankful that they're ending it with the fourth season because I don't want to know how it could get any worse.
I'll do my own review, but now I'll say i agree more with the OP than the commenters. I think it got better with the darker stuff cuz it was far mre complex and edy than a disney sitcom deserves. I'll adress Alex in the review, but i think she clearly grew, doing good things at the start isntead of just after getting past Aeosp Amensisa. (I'm looking at you, Miley Stwart...

Not as kid friendly as you think it is
These series are surprisingly good, considering the fact that it's a Disney Channel production. Although it's a show about wizards, it is quite realistic in its characters' portrayals and their lines are intelligently plotted, filled with humor that varies. The characters are not the perfect role models (in fact, Alex Russo is inclined to portray some sort of antisocial, snarky anarchist), but apparently, not many people realize this - probably because not many really know what anarchism means. Not going further than that.
Sometimes the violence is quite excessive and some episodes are really dark and edgy (e.g: Wizards Vs. Werewolves, Wizards Vs. Angels), but I think that's best thing about it. The main characters' relationship (if you didn't figure it out, I'm talking about the famous, or I should say, infamous siblings, Justin and Alex Russo) evolves from an innocent sibling rivalry to something much more serious (almost too serious sometimes for a kids show), reaching some sort of love-hate affair, but they mange to clean it up nicely in one way or another, because, well, siblings must get along in the end, right?
It's unique, quite original in its own way, different and somewhat darker than the other fluffy, cheesy little shows Disney has to offer. That's why it is the only one I watch.
