Reception for Ultraman Ginga and Ginga S

From both Ultraman Ginga and its succeeding season Ginga S, viewers can get a good look on how budgetary constraints can affect a series.

Ultraman Ginga (2013) is in fact a show with little to No Budget. Because Tsuburaya lost the legal victory over the rights of Ultraman towards Chaiyo Production in the early year, it severely affecting the series too. Ginga ran on 11 episodes, with the early episode on six before entering a season break and return in November. The first season is like a huge Bottle Episode, as there are three identified settings exist: the Furuboshi city, mountainside area and the Furuboshi elementary school. Ultraman Ginga (and Jean-Nine)'s fights only occur in the latter two areas as Tsuburaya still lacked the budget and it also shows on the small number of original monsters: Thunder Darambia in ep 1, Dark Galberos in ep 7 and the Dark Ultraman, Seven and Tiga. The original-made suits are only Super Grand King and Dark Lugiel to begin with. To compensate for the very lack of episodes, two feature movies were aired in 2013 (during season break) and early 2014.

In 2014, we were told that Tsuburaya manages to settle their debts and shows a steady increase to their profit. True to this, the succeeding season Ultraman Ginga S boasted this with a small but steady improvements. The second season was meant solely for Ultraman Victory but the previous season's actor Hikaru Raido wants Ginga to return, as he felt that the last season wasn't enough. Despite the continuous recycled monster suits, this show itself brings a better plot involvement and characters, such as the battle in the city, something that last shown in Ultraman Mebius. This season introduced Shepherdon, the benevolent monster guardian to the series MacGuffin Victorium crystals that the Big Bad Exceller try to steal and use to revive Dark Lugiel. You can tell that when a new monster appears, THAT's where the massive budget goes. Five King, the colossal fusion from monsters in the early 90's, the Ultraman Tiga to Ultraman Gaia era and the final boss Vict Lugiel, which is Dark Lugiel revived as a Cyborg/One-Winged Angel form. The 2015 movie should be given credit too, as it introduce Etelgar and Ultra Fight Victory with Juda Specter despite the latter miniseries being a total No Budget one.
