Interesting possible path, not-so-interesting travelers

For those of us who wonder how the royal wedding and subsequent events might have gone had Chrysalis not held so tightly to the Villain Ball, this is fascinating. The story takes a good, hard look at just how the characters would have reacted to one of the most base-breaking moments in all of Friendship is Magic given time, and the consequences thereof.... Unfortunately, that look results in a pretty drab view. Twilight engages in a great deal of Wangst, and while it is justified by earlier events and a subsequent look into her psychology, the knowledge that it stems from a personal flaw only makes it more aggravating- and it's far from the worst thing she does. The other Mane 5 (no Spike to be seen) and Celestia, however, are regarded as even worse for a momentary lapse of judgement, largely through the eyes and mouth of an OC Stand In who, while by all rights should be the most qualified to lead the search for Twilight, comes across as self-righteous and much more competent than a Princess and the Element Bearers put together, to the point of approaching Jerk Sue territory. One imagines the sequel will pull it all out of the muck, but if you are more interested in characterization than an overall look down the road not taken, it is a difficult climb to start.
