Shouldn't there be an inversion called "Amoral Substitute" where examples such as those from Nazi Germany would be best suited in?

I don't know if it's important, but it's worth mentioning as someone who lives in the state that The Creation Museum in Kentucky was partially funded by governor Mitch Mc Connell....meanwhile he screwed over the school board via budget cuts among other things.

Do you think that's worth adding or is it pointless?

Don't see how it's relevant to it being a Moral Substitute for something created by another ideology, but adding it in a note paranthesis won't be a problem i think.

What's so wrong with this trope here? I'm just sensing a bit of cutting tone here, as if making a Christian spinoff of something that's fairly popular is a bad thing. What if the intent was to just have a certain morality group's ethics incorperated into a media that kids will enjoy? Like, Educational shows, but for Catholics.

The reason Christian groups like to do this is because some parts of modern society depict Christianity and any aspect thereof (for instance, abstinence) as boring or lame. Christians (in theory) try to compensate by putting morals and other teachings of their creeds into games and whatever to make it fun for kids to learn this stuff. Why is that such a bad thing?

I will not be understood. Understand?! Hide / Show Replies

The focus of this trope is any work that rips off some other work for the sake of being more moral. I think a major cause of the snark is that people don't like rip offs in general, no matter what the aim of the work is.

If the snark is specifically directed at Christians, however, do not hesitate to edit out the whining or delete the example outright. Better yet, delete any examples that don't have any sort of "non-moral" parallel, as those are the ones most likely to be nothing but snark.

Snarking at the entire idea (which the main description does, particularly when calling 90% of it crap) is directly offensive to any variation producing the Moral Substitute because one of the forces behind it feel they are not taken seriously by "mainstream" and therefore hopelessly biased sources.

So yeah the trope description is basically giving off a tone of the inferior substitute created to be more ethical.

EDIT: Putting my money where my mouth is I rewrote this to spend most of its time with Accentuate the Negative

I want to add Groovy Girls dolls to the page, but don't know if it counts. They are plush fashion dolls originally sold in educational specialty stores that are also sold at Target. They were made as a more wholesome alternative to dolls such as Barbie, but they still like fashion and are girly, but they do push messages like friendship and being yourself, and look more like Tweens than adults or teens. There is nothing Christian about them. Does this count?

"There's message boards for Christian Furries." And? Furries are people, despite being the punching bags of the internet for some reason.

The wording should be, "There are Christian messageboards for furries." As in, the messageboards are made for Christian morals, and for furries. As opposed to, you know, the infamously inclusive secular furry messageboards you hear so much about.

Removed the following lines because the facts in the matter are in significant dispute, a dispute which is unlikely to be resolved.

  • Halloween originated from the practice of the Catholic All Soul's Day as an alternative to the pagan Saimhain in Ireland. Keep in mind though, this only concerned having All Soul's Day take place near Saimhain, which was just a harvest festival, and All Soul's Day was meant to remind people to pray for the souls in purgatory. They are really separate things entirely. To drive the point home, "Hallow's Eve" means "All Saint's Day's Eve;" keep that in mind when anyone says it to sound creepy in a horror movie. Aspects of both holidays created Halloween, despite neither being anything scary (okay, purgatory is supposed to be scary, but not occult).
  • Jesus likely was born in the spring, not the winter. But Christmas is celebrated in December because new converts needed an alternative to celebrating the winter solstice.

Though the Kingdom Chums are considered a Christian equivalent of the Care Bears on here, I find it debatable whether or not the Kingdom Chums should actually be considered a Moral Substitute of the Care Bears, since both the Care Bears and Kingdom Chums are both morally correct in their own ways. Any questions?

If someone knows about kaiju, would they please clear up the entry on Gamera? There's a fight in the entries and I don't know which one of them is right.

Gracie Lizzie: Is Filthy Figments for those "who object to men holding the strings" when it comes to erotica really? Have they said that? It's not just porn and erotica written and drawn by women, mostly for women? How is that "bad" or "preachy" or whatever? I am confused anyone would have a problem with women wanting to have an avenue for they own desires. I have seen the "reason for only female artists" but it doesn't seem like they object to male orientated porn, just that they want more female orientated porn out there.
