Oh shit, the trope I proposed in 2015 made it. I remember naming it "Not so remote place after all".

Will add some exemples later.

In regards to this example:

  • In an episode of Stargate SG-1, a gate mishap sends O'Neil and Carter into an ice cave. When they dig their way out, they think they landed on an ice planet. Turns out they're actually on Earth, in the Antarctic.

I can immediately tell that Earth All Along is the more obvious trope at play, but, given that SG1 often does randomly end up in the far reaches of space cut off from all hope of rescue, it seems oddly appropriate to call this Not So Remote as well, because compared to what they're used to, anywhere on Earth could be considered not especially remote. The narrative function of the trope may have been closer to Not So Remote than to Earth All Along as well, perhaps?

I'm specifically interested in how far they end up from human settlement in Antartica. If they're, say, within driving distance of McMurdo, that would definitely be a good argument for keeping this on Not So Remote as well as Earth All Along.

Well I hesitated before adding it, but I saw another Earth All Along example on the page, which prompted me to go through with it.

I do think that narratively speaking, given their isolation during the episode, this is closer to Not So Remote than Earth All Along.

It was already on Earth All Along too, and it deserves to be there, but it can be here too.

The other Earth All Along crossover is about people who are actually in the desert outside Los Angeles, within walking distance of telephone poles, so it's a much more clear-cut example of both at once.

I do want to keep this example, I just think it needs to be contextualized differently so that it looks less like it migrated here from Earth All Along. I'll try to watch that episode soon and maybe elaborate a bit to better emphasize the Not So Remote part.
