A genuine Nice Guy likes watching people being happy. He does not care whether he will be rewarded for his good deeds or not.

Should we have a page for comic strips? Off the top of my head there's Pig from Pearls Before Swine, quite a few characters from Peanuts (Charlie Brown, Franklin, Linus, Marcie and Rerun), Earl and Mooch from Mutts...

With the other definition of "Nice Guy" getting more and more common on the internet, I increasingly feel this needs a rename.

I increasingly feel those people need to change.

I agree with open_sketch, the title of this trope is a little misleading when taking into account of the 'Nice Guy' stereotype. Better to change the misleading title than to force those to change their opinion about what this trope is trying to achieve.

Well, the Internet definition means something utterly different; this is Exactly What It Says on the Tin; someone who is genuinely nice to people. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The problem is with the people who buy into the Nice Guy stereotype, not the page itself.

Good lord, the incels have ruined this term.

Life hack: if you hate women and think your every interaction with them should be rewarded by sex, you are not a nice guy.

Couldn't a subversion other than the "Nice Guy" be the nice guy who is completely over run by his flaws of being unassertive and boring. Maybe that's what the article is talking about the beginning where the nice guy is the target of many writers for lack of hidden depth.

"Also, if the Nice Guy has a rougher male as his Foil, they're a Sensitive Guy and Manly Man duo."

Not to go off on a tangent here, but why does the nice guy have to be the effeminate one? Is it possible for the more manly one to be the nice one, while the sensitive is either the nasty one (in comparison, they need not be a total jerkass) or maybe just a Shrinking Violet who's less social?

Is there someplace where a Nice Guy can exist without being Vaporized by Karma? Fiction? No Real Life? No
