UPDATE: Sorry, I just found the Exotic Detective page. I had made the incorrect assumption that since the Magician Detective didn't link to a parent page, there wasn't one.
It seems like maybe this trope should be expanded, or there should be some kind of parent trope. Not sure what to call it, but it would represent the concept of the unconventional detective who's not a cop but, due to his unique skills, physiology, or afflictions, hangs out with the cops and is able to solve cases that they can't. Following are some examples, grouped by the general type of the fish-out-of-water character (note that some of these are already listed on the trope page, but I include them here as examples of why this seems broader than just magicians).
Mystery writers: Richard Castle (Castle), Ellery Queen
Thieves: Neal Caffrey (White Collar), Alexander Mundy (It Takes a Thief)

What to call it? I dunno; maybe "Fish-out-of-Water Detective" or "Non-Detective Detective" or "Unconventional Detective"?
