This one doesn't seem to be a good example — the trope doesn't apply when the alternative is a fate worse than death. In any case this is external commentary not in-world.
- The entire draenei race in World Of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade spent several thousand years keeping one step ahead of the Burning Legion, who would have wiped them out otherwise. Predictably, this fact draws a lot of Fan Dumb.
- Isn't not wanting to be totally exterminated or demonically corrupted a pretty good reason not to give up?
- You'd be surprised: In the eyes of some fans, the draenei are apparently "cowards" for not being effectively Too Dumb to Live.

Aversions are far too common to list:
- Appomatax Court House.
- Sadly, an aversion. The South clung almost to the last bullet. Lee was beaten months earlier, and he knew it, but couldn't accept it - and the Confederate leadership definitely couldn't. An odd quirk of the war also helped the hardliners. You see, the representatives on conquered districts were still allowed int he Confederate Congress... and they msotly just decided that they would continue even after their terms of service. Since they'd lose everything if the war was lost, they voted to the last ditch for Jeff Davis's hardline. It didn't work out quite like they wanted
It's true that retreat is a strategy, but Peanuts is not a good example. As most people know, Lucy is, to put it delicately, a total jerk. She ALWAYS pulls the football away just when Charlie Brown is about to kick it. This isn't this trope at all, it's just a running gag where Charlie Brown never seems to win at anything, and Lucy constantly trolls Charlie Brown because she basically hates his guts. Besides, Charlie Brown had tried to refuse her several times (yet as per the running gag, gets tricked everytime). I'm requesting that some other more accurate example be used.
