- The single-player X-universe games and MMORPG Eve Online both have essentially the same backstory: humans created or discovered a vast network of hyperspace gates and spread across the universe, then a mysterious catastrophe cut off all contact with Sol and the Terran Empire/Federation proper. Survivors eventually do put some of the pieces back together again, but by that point they're treated as more of a sub-species and it's implied the Terrans, if they still exist, are Sufficiently Advanced by now.
- In the X games themselves the Terrans actually do show up (in X:BTF the player character is a Terran test pilot), and the locals aren't quite sure what to make of this. Eventually they re-establish contact, and find out the Terrans are pretty xenophobic and consider their Argon descendants, along with everyone else, a potentially hostile alien race. The only people who sorta know what's going on are a pseudo-religious order whose relationship with the Argon Federation is strained by their differing versions of history.

This is butts old, but I do want to see a Star Trek fanfic addition of how the alien races deal with that the humans they are interacting with are ghosts or more terrifyingly...non-sapient, reverting back to animals. And the aliens being unable to handle the Awful Truth did gene-modding on the half-offspring's with said humans.
