This trope seems kinda... whiny and entitled. It seems as though the original author believes that it's some kind of moral imperative to only offer experience points or character growth of any kind in exchange for combat, and doing otherwise is an affront to all good, God-fearing people everywhere. Give me a break.
"Pale Ebenezer thought it wrong to fight, but Roaring Bill (who killed him) thought it right." - Hillaire Belloc, The PacifistThis is a nice quote, but not for this trope. It's not a good idea for the quote to express the opposite idea: it's the first thing many people read.

Metaphysician: I think this trope needs some reworking. It seems to mix together two separate ideas- RP Gs averting "RPG Equals Combat", and dislike for RP Gs offering an option other than grinding. My inclination is to yank the latter content, as frankly, most of the stuff people are complaining about is stuff any decent live GM *would* give XP for.
