It seems whenever I get *really* into a fic, it ends up as one of these... when will I ever find a fanfic that is ongoing, that I stay interested in, follow through its development, and actually get completed? Excuse me while I go cry in bed now

Virtual Insanity... you were the first... even after this long... I never forgot you...

Please... I want to read these... It's never going to happen, is it...?

Does it still count as this trope when the author literally dies?

Does anyone else here actually know Fighbird beyond the "Is this a pigeon?" meme?

Should we remove fics if they come back to life? The author of "Bad Boys: JEDI Style" resumed writing it quite a while ago.

Sure, go ahead and remove them.

What is the common duration a fic must be left for it to be considered dead? Does it change?

Consider the following scenarios: (All real)

Fic is dormant for 6 months (Dead?)

Fic is dormant for >1 year (Dead)

Fic is dormant for >1 year but author page has a update from 1 week ago saying that it's not dead (Dead or just in Hiatus?)

Fic is dormant for >1 year with other fics being updated more recently (dead?)

Fic is on a monthly schedule but misses the last two months (dead?) what if it were weekly and missed the last three?

I'm honestly interested as to opinions on these examples.

Personally I treat any fic as dead if it has at least 2 years since the last update and no word from the author.

"Last update... May 24, 2006. "Sniff". " Is the "sniff" part really necessary?

(Don't) take me home.

Should Dead Fic categorized as be Trivia? The related tropes of Schedule Slip and Series Hiatus already are.

That'd be a question for this thread.
