Linking to a past Trope Repair Shop thread that dealt with this page: Horribly distasteful trope name, started by HiddenFacedMatt on Jan 2nd 2012 at 3:00:35 AM

Can we rename this article to TV Tropes: Colon Cancer: The Article: Reloaded?

Nah, too long.

That's the point.

Alternatively, we could just leave it as "TV Tropes: Colon Cancer: The Article" and have the third colon be in the tabs at the bottom.

there are a LOT of problems with this article, especially when we get to the video games.

1. many of the examples here don't actually use multiple colons, instead using some other symbol to denote that the new work is a smaller part of the previous. see also: many many many many many japanese works. this technicality is important because it's explicitly mentioned in the article as a sort of exception, and is also mentioned in an above topic.

2. on that note, the listing of expansion packs isn't really fair, for the same reason the colon even exists: it is meant to denote a smaller part of a larger work. really, there should be a completely different article about subtitles for the sake of subtitles, such as the nightmare that is the original titles of the last blade series of fighting games.

3. to sort of blow up point 2, there's no context behind why any colon cancer is present, which means there's no reason why the cancer /being/ present matters. star wars is a fantastic example and is basically the main idea of the above point: when you have one big license going down many smaller roads, you are forced to outright number each entry of a subseries or else you get on this list... it's silly. hell, like any good work, star wars already has its fair share of subtitles for the sake of subtitles, like the rogue squadron series.

it's all already confusing enough as is. really doesn't need to be worse!

(side note: in general, many of these sequel articles have a bad habit of tossing obvious side projects into main series; full metal panic? fumoffu, operation c, etc. in the case of the former: yes, refuting it only makes listing it even /more/ pointless.)

Somewhere in here needs to be reference to the trials and tribulations of Computer_Scientist::Programmer::C++.

Can we rewrite and resort? This trope is not any example of X:Y, it needs to be X:Y:Z or more, right? One and only one colon is not a "cancer".

I agree. A single colon is hardly colon cancer. All examples with less than two colons can be deleted, in my opinion.

Cleaned up. The Entry Pimps will be pissed because I removed their examples for Square Peg Round Trope, but I don't care.

Does it or does it not count if there's a dash? I was going to add "Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: The Game - The Original Soundtrack", but there's a dash instead of a second colon.

Edited by Yamikuronue BTW, I'm a chick.
