They're actually wholly different, despite the names.
That is "actor claims to have some expertise due to a TV role."
This is "actor is so associated with a role, people confuse them for their character in real life."
Totally different, although the difference between this and I Am Not Spock seems... nebulous.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Might Peter Falk be an example? I do recall hearing (but have no sources) that many people would treat him as if he were Columbo and he'd go along with it because he genuinely enjoyed identifying with the character. It also helped that his real-life personality wasn't dramatically different from Columbo.
Another example I can think of is Desmond Llywelyn (aka Q), he would be treated IRL as if he knew all about technology and gadgetry even though he didn't.
Edited by HysniThis page says "See Actor Role Confusion for the In-Universe version.", but then it has its own In-Universe section at the bottom... should those be moved to Actor/Role Confusion?
Educomix: "Good. I'll make toast." Hide / Show RepliesSeems like so. I can't see a difference between these two.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhat does this...
- Rhys Darby has been asked on multiple occasions to manage peoples bands, where he's given a response along the lines of "First, my name is Rhys, second, I only play a manager on TV, and thirdly, not a very good one."
...mean? Fan Myopia and all that.
Um, I didn't understand... What exactly sets this apart from I'm Not a Doctor, but I Play One on TV? Is it something specific?
