Is it just me, or doesn't it seem like some of the entries here don't quite fit the trope? For instance, the Final Fantasy VI, VIII, and IX entries only make references in situations where your party splits up and switches to the half in which the main character is not present, or one of the characters previously introduced is on their own (Celes in VI). It's never "someone completely different" at all. I might be splitting hairs here, but I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks the same.

Agreed, most of these, especially the ones listed under RP Gs are more a case of Missing Main Character. I think the spirit of this troupe is that you find yourself controlling a character (or group) that is not a normal member of your party, and may never see again. Not a simple forced shuffling of your normal playable characters, or an outright switching to a new character never to see the old again.
