- Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: A rare example of this happening to an actor rather than the character. After he left Star Trek: The Next Generation, especially as he didn't leap into another large acting job, the geek culture promptly proclaimed him to be as much of a wimp and loser as his character, Wesley Crusher. Jokes about his lack of career, and how he'd go down in history as being one of the most insufferable characters in TV history, were plentiful. Then came his blog
, his twitter feed, appearances on The Guild and Adam Westing taken to new and dizzying heights in The Big Bang Theory. Thanks to that, and apparently to being a genuinely nice guy at fan conventions, and not being afraid to mock his old character and perceived scrappy-ness, Wheaton has morphed into a kind of geek god.

His real first name is Richard. Which is the long form of Dick. He never goes by it. Thus, he is Not Being A Dick.
