Is it possible to debate trope usage? I disagree that Clive holds the Idiot Ball by naming himself Cid the Outlaw and the story does not portray him that way or make it seem like it was a mistake for using the name. His purpose for doing that was to keep the movement alive. The purpose of a movement is not to remain secretive, they want realm-wide change to improve the lives of Bearers. Plus it does give him a degree of anonymity, and thus protection. Hugo KNOWS the real Cid is dead, and this way no one really knows who the real Clive is — it just keeps Cid's message alive.
Hide / Show RepliesI agree with Baithin. Even if Clive did not take Cid's name, I believe that the story would have been unchanged since the Hideaway's tactic of moving around so many freed Bearers would have gotten attention during the timeskip anyways.
Yeah, it's both a rallying cry for their allies and a challenge to their enemies. They're taking on the entire political system of Valisthea - one Dominant having a psychotic grudge against Cid is no reason to change course.
What's precedent ever done for us?

Uhh... is that true? I can only recall one...
