I commented out a LOT of examples because they lacked context. Just a name is NOT context, we need to know why the trope applies.
Also, remember the Big Bad is the cause of the trouble facing the heroes. It's not necessarily the meanest enemy out there. So for example, Abomination is not the Big Bad. Ross still is, even though Abomination winds up being the Final Boss.

I'm really having trouble seeing Kasius as a Big Bad in Agents of SHIELD Season Five as opposed to just an Arc Villain. Other seasons had their own early-season main villains that were replaced by other ones later, but my issue with Kasius is that he didn't really cause the season's conflict. He wasn't the one who destroyed the Earth, or who brought SHIELD to the future. He was an obstacle once they got there, but he didn't really start anything; he only took charge once everything had already gone down the tubes. In contrast, Whitehall, Malick, and Eli Morrow all had active parts in creating the problems SHIELD had to solve (and even then, Malick isn't quite a Big Bad since he did it in Hive's service).
