Homura didn't regret anything and it wasn't a downer ending. Watch the final scene of the movie, she's seen dancing in the night happily. Furthermore, Madoka's powers will eventually return, that's at least heavily implied.
Can we just unmark the spoilers? Virtually 75% of this page is spolier.
That's what I thought too, but it does.
Try to watch it a second time. It, and Homura's actions at the end of it, makes a tonne of sense that has been properly fore-shadowed all along.
When I think of something better to put here, you'll be the first to know.I suggest to change the end quote of the page with the Nightmare leitmotif (better knows as "Mada Dame Yo") because it's in The Stinger, which the lyrics is quite fitting of, and it makes more sense in the context of the movie like the You Are Not Alone speech at the end of the series.
Hide / Show RepliesYou have the wrong song: the song in the stinger is "not yet", a completely different song, and the nightmare's lullaby is named "still no good" — which is the English translation given in the official soundtrack — instead of "mada dame yo".
However, I agree that putting the lyrics of "still no good" at the bottom of the page would work; they do fit nicely into the overall context of the movie. And they're closer to canon than the lines down there anyway; while those already there do fit — in regards to Homura's actions, anyway — I believe sticking to something from canon would work better.
As far as I'm concerned unless there is a season 2 to me the movie doesn't exist!
Hide / Show RepliesThat's nice. I hope you actually watched the movie, though, and didn't just kneejerk at a few spoilers. Because I find the movie makes a lot of sense and so do a whole lot of fans once the confusion wore off.
And considering the ending was written to keep it open-ended, season 2 is inevitable, so the movie is 100% purely canon (well, in the context of the movies. If you're really that pissed about a piece of fictional media, just subscribe to the TV anime. Rebellion is only a sequel to the movies officially).
And for the love of God, stop blanking things that you don't like. First Haruhi in the Trope Pantheon, and now Rebellion because "Homura was soooo OOC" or whatever your personal gripe was? Cut it out. You're not the be-all and end-all of tropers. Plenty of people enjoyed the movie, found it thought-provoking, plausible, and a worthy successor to the anime. So stop it.
Let the user have his/her opinion, And I kind of agree with them. And I saw the movie, it was garbage.
I don't think you understand... GoldenSpot5 blanked every Rebellion page in a fit of rage. Deleted everything on it.
It's fine to think the film's crap (which I wholeheartedly disagree with), but throwing a hissy fit over a real, canonical thing because it panned out contrary to expectations is just silly.
Edited by 60.241.208.209well Golden Spot 5 must have got a serious punishment. But that leaves one problem if he is banned who will start Operation Outbreak? I guess I will have to.
As much as I hate the ending (well, based on the spoilers anyway) and still do, I did manage to find something to "ease the sting"..... quite a lot actually.
That would be the "Zero-Approval Gambit" theory that's been going round. Makes me wonder if season 2 will be a dark take on it though, whether from it blowing up spectacularly in Homura's face due to the recklessness by which it was enacted, via people with major self loathing complexes being amongst those who would do such a thing, or through Deconstruction of the psychological havoc that such gambits wreak upon those who enact them. Just look at how much Itachi was hurting when he had to pull his off.
In regards to When They Cry counterpart comparisons, might I challenge the comparison between Homura and Bernkastel. I say she hasn't become a sadistic troll. Homura via severe post traumatic stress disorder finally catching up to her has instead become Yasu. The Yasu analogy makes lots of sense under the "Zero-Approval Gambit" theory since Yasu also has some serious self-loathing issues and pulled a Zero-Approval Gambit herself.
The Les Yay entry in the YMMV page is getting quite long, should we get a separate page for it?
I know there's no such thing as notability, but could I get a source on "the main complaint about Rebellion is the Ass Pull ending regarding the soul gem corruption"? Most complaints I've seen were about the motive of the end.
Hide / Show Replieschalk it up to left hanging. the plot thread of homura escaping her lotus eater was resolved, but everything that happens after has little to no explination.
I changed occurrences of "Kyouko" to "Kyoko", since the former will be outdated once the official subs come out. In my opinion, the official subs (not dub) and English manga translation should be a reference point for translations/transliterations, except when they're wildly inaccurate. This shouldn't turn into another "Aeris vs. Aerith" debate, so if it looks like there's an impending edit war then someone can probably bring it up to get a consensus on what reference point to use.
Edited by 24.52.222.35 Hide / Show RepliesHad to do it again. Using "Kyouko" is fine, since this isn't some stuffy formal wiki, but changing everyone else's use of the name to "Kyouko" is essentially just disregarding that official romanizations even exist, as if you meticulously went through the series pages to change "wraith" to "demon" and "Walpurgisnacht" to "Walpurgis Night". There's this thread https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13869844870A53859000&page=1#1 if you want to discuss the matter.
Edited by 24.52.222.35A character page for this movie should be made: we can put all the character tropes there neat and tidy, and also transfer Nagisa's section from the anime's character page to there, as it doesn't fit in the anime section. Unfortunately I have no clue how to make a character page, so could someone else do it? It would be a good help.
Hide / Show RepliesWhat characters would go on the page - just new tropes for the series characters, plus Bebe/Nagisa?
Does anyone think instances of "Kyouko" should be corrected to "Kyoko" once the official subs are released in theaters? Both have been used officially, but "Kyoko" seems to be the current default romanization in both Japan and America.
I was looking through the PSP game page and suddenly remembered Homulilly's hat. In the movie, while very different from her original design, Homulilly has the vinyl record player hat for a moment before discarding it.
Should someone add it as Shout-Out to the PSP game?
I can kill you. You won't be happy, but you'll be dead.I'd love to include a picture of the poster with Nagisa, but I can't resize the image properly. If anyone can do this it would be much appreciated.

I don't know why but I felt unsatisfied with how this movie ended. Madoka taking Homura into Heaven would have been a good enough ending. I felt Homura becoming the devil was far too much.
However, Homura not being taken into Heaven shows us how selfish and obsessed over Madoka she really is. If Homura had chosen to let Madoka take her to heaven, would things end worse? She'd finally be with Madoka and be able to see her again. On the other hand, this means that her wish to protect Madoka is unfulfilled.
As you can see, I'm very conflicted on Rebellion's ending.
