After watching MM over a year ago, I hate neither Madoka nor Sayaka while being American. In fact, Sayaka started out as my favorite character in MM until the second half. But I find them more interesting that Mami, whom I found kinda bland compared to the other 4 girls...

Yuma is anything but wimpy. "KATTOBING DA, ORE!!" This is the kid who charges headfirst into impossible challenges, never giving up no matter what odds are stacked against him.
I'm honestly not sure Sayaka being the Scrappy in the West is accurate if anything she's one of the more popular characters in the series. If anything Madoka herself could be considered this more than Sayaka due to her not being as badass as the other characters and accusations of her being a Canon Sue. I'm not saying I personally think that (if anything those that do can go screw themselves) I'm just stating my observations about the fandom.
