- If there's a need for moderators and someone suitable is suggested this person might get promoted to their own ranks.
- Some mods have their specific domain, i.e. some specific forum threads they are responsible for. Some are responsible for all of it. They have various superpowers:
- banning and unbanning users from editing the forum or wiki.
- locking threads.
- cut pages.
- can create pages in the main name space without going through TLD.
- hook, unhook and close crowners.
- thumb other user's forum posts when they are embarrassing themselves.
- even their word itself carries power.
- I don't know if there have ever been abuses. Most cases are pretty uncontentious and if they are debatable mods might for a consensus among mods. Since even mods can err even banned users get a chance to defend or redeem themselves.

I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose meMods aren't promoted. Whenever the site needs new ones, they're vat-grown using the site's mason jar full of "mod starter" (location undisclosed).
