CBS used to do an educational show called You Are There. It started on radio and moved to TV (with Walter Cronkite). They enacted on-the-scene, Murrow-like reporting of great moments in history like Waterloo and the trial of Joan of Arc.
In the late 60s, WLS would go into its Christmas programming a few days before Dec. 25, and by the afternoon of the 24th the news would feature an ongoing report from Bethlehem. This big census/tax registration decree just went into effect and everyone born there has to come home to sign up. The town is overcrowded and every hotel is packed to capacity. Among the human interest stories is people trying to find space for a pregnant girl and her husband.
What is this kind of show called? (And does anyone else remember the News from Bethlehem radio report?)
