I'm not sure that a "fake" version of a specific character really counts as an extra.

If they're still appearing, the character hasn't been Put on a Bus. Simple. The role the "fake" version of them plays in their appearances is still contributing to the story, even if they don't have their own plot (which may make it Demoted to Extra). But, yeah, Put on a Bus isn't just a character physically leaving (which would be PSOC).
