The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
I could have sworn there was a trope about Arbitrary Restrictions that applied to creators, but I'm not finding it. Closest I can find is Self-Imposed Challenge. I think Universe Bible comes the closest to fitting what you've described.
Edited by darkemystI think Self-Imposed Challenge will work. The only reason I'm not using Universe Bible is that the trope itself says it must be a physical thing, which is not available for the public AFAIK.
Is there a trope similar to Executive Meddling, but rather than the network or some higher-up placing restrictions on the production team, but it's the production team placing restrictions on themselves?
Context:
(I've been told Universe Bible before, but this info was from an interview, and not a bible — nor is there a physical one to look at AFAIK)
