Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
If you're changing the images, then yes.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessCropping the full size image◊ to one that's excessively vertical◊ isn't a wise choice, just saying.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain^ Agreed.
The forum is not needed if it's an improvement of the same image: better resolution, remove image artifacts, etc.
Ultimate Secret WarsAsoktenchea, you cropped the image again right after I reverted it.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom PainOn the topic of hololive images, I feel the need to draw attention to a "rule" Asoktenchea declared on the image selection for character pages:
Note about Character Images:
Any images added to the Characters pages should be drawn by the respective hololive member's official illustrator OR themselves, unless there is no official art of them available. This is mainly to narrow down the selection we can choose from so that we can minimize image choice conflicts.FOR Alternate Outfits, only add them IF they:
- Introduce a new, significant change to their fundamental character in a way that it cannot be called a mere costume change [e.g. Aqua becoming a Catgirl in her casual outfit, Holo EN's chibi models, Calli's job change (appearance-wise)].
OR
- Are 'plot-significant' [e.g. Rushia becoming a necromancer princess across her different outfits, Korone's New Year's outfit revealing her true species, HAACHAMA's "true form"].
OR
- Are used so frequently in streams that they are featured just as often or more than their original outfit, within a period of at least 6 months [e.g. Subaru's School Uniform-style Idol outfit, Mio's Loungewear outfit, Flare's 2020 New Year's outfit].
This is to prevent cluttering the Characters pages with too many outfit tabs.
I said it was unnecessarily restrictive, and Asoktenchea retorted with an unsatisfactory explanation. Not all of the illustrators hand out full-fledged artwork of the VTubers (case in point: Kronii Ouro's "mama", Arco Wada), and Asoktenchea is purposely contradicting themselves by omitting outfit that do change their appearances (i.e., every single Nonstop Story idol outfit).
All in all, yes we are not a fandom wiki, but no, we don't make a minirule that only a few follow. Especially not when Image Pickin' actually has the final say on image changes.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom PainSo... They're basically making changes in defiance of the rules we already explained to them. And edit warring.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness↑ No I didn't, if you see Grigor II's comment:
It's the same image◊. All I did was crop it (very) little. You might not think it's an improvement but it falls under the same category.
Also, it's no longer "excessively vertical" anymore either so it's not like I changed it back to how it used to be.
↑↑ Where's the contradiction? Every single one of the alt outfits on the Characters pages rn fit in one of these three rules. Nonstop Story idol outfit doesn't. Changing their appearance is not one of the conditions. Though I probably shouldn't have added "(appearance-wise)" since it could easily be misunderstood, that's my bad.
You say that yet we have/had minirules like these in hololive pages:
ATTENTION: There seems to be an ongoing controversy regarding Akai Haato and Kiryu Coco's suspension from Cover Corporation. Do NOT mention events over here until 6 months have passed after the events have cooled down.
to reiterate/TLDR from the YMMV page: this is for memes that are "just memes" and don't actually fit the definition of "Memetic Mutation".
Before adding a nickname that directly compares one member with another, remind yourself that hololive members pride themselves on their individuality, and that such nicknames tend to fall out of favor once their personalities come into their own.Edited by Asoktenchea
If a troper was to replace/modify the image of a character on a Characters page (Characters sheet) themselves, does it need to brought up in Image Pickin first? And does the How to Pick a Good Image page apply to these Characters images?
Also, modifications to images such as cropping are allowed, right?
