Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I'm inclined to say delete the whole entry, but I'm prickly about leaks and spoilers and that may be overzealous.
Just to be clear: Were they not allowed to put the game up on the order page?
Is box art now considered a content leak? It would seem to be on the same order as a book cover or a movie poster. Unless people are speculating as to the identity of the silhouettes in question.
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose me^ I would say it counts as a leak if any of the characters on the cover art are not given official reveals beforehand. It depends on nuance.
As long as the games were allowed to be put on the order page, that's less a leak and more "releasing information through different means than through a trailer".
Depends. You can pre-order something without an image, and some places like to do cover reveals.
In this case, I agree it’s not clear which it is.
Given that the cover art was taken down, this seems like an obvious leak.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I got ninja'd, but it does seem to be an unintentional leak. When the game's official site went live, it used temporary box art only featuring the game's logo. That same day, Target (& possibly other retailers) posted listings for the game that included the box featuring silhouettes. A couple days later, they changed it to the temporary one.
Pinball cleanup threadI suggest rewriting the example to say this:
- On the day the game was announced, several retailers put up pages to order the game. Many of these pages featured the box art for the game, with silhouettes of the characters (some of which had yet to be officially announced). Fans identified several characters before the retailers replaced the box art with a temporary image; a cover that only features the game's logo.
^ Thank you. I went ahead and rewrote the example based on your suggestion, citing this query in the edit reason.
Pinball cleanup threadBumping this because two tropers have re-added the information in question. In the month and change since the last post, a fair bit's happened both on and off-wiki regarding the game, so I'll give a quick rundown:
- August 9th: Ibssb adds a mention of the leaked characters to the page again. (They also venture into speculative territory, listing some potential identities of one particularly nebulous silhouette.)
- September 1st: The Brazilian Nintendo eShop prematurely reveals the final box art - identical to the one featuring the silhouettes from before, but this time fully showing every character. Most of the leaked characters from before are essentially confirmed by this development, but they are still officially unannounced. Andy Mouse adds a mention of this under Content Leak on the Trivia page, again namedropping the fighters that weren't (and still aren't) officially revealed.
I would've removed it myself, but I didn't want to risk edit warring. Should I go ahead and do it?
Edited by BlueGuy Pinball cleanup threadGo ahead, but did you ever inform AndyMouse about the Content Leak policy? (As a rule on this website, troping actual information from leaks is not allowed until the work officially gets released. )
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.^ At first, I only mentioned it generally in the edit reason. I went ahead and sent them a notifier explaining the Content Leak policy as it pertains to that page, right before actually editing the page to remove the offending content.
Pinball cleanup thread
A few days ago, I added a Content Leak example to Trivia.Nickelodeon All Star Brawl:
On the day the game was announced, several retailers put up pages to order the game. Many of these featured its box art for the first time, including silhouettes of several characters that were unannounced at the time.
My edit reason explained why I didn't go into more detail:Two days later, Andy Mouse edited the example to mention the characters in question. I don't want to risk edit warring by removing his additions - partially because I'm not 100% sure if my interpretation of the anti-leak policy is correct - so I wanted to ask about the matter here.
