Y'know, unnoun, I kind of agree with you, but your last few posts have basically been saying the same thing over and over. I think you may need some time away from the computer to cool down. Go rip up some paper or something.

I dont know I mean Demo Reel hasnt seem to be that perfect to me. Good yes, but it seems plagued by problems of not knowing where to go and that was just episode 2. I love what it did, and am sad to see it go, but...

Even a few TGWTG producers seem pissed at him.

I don't use Twitter (much), so can you give some links?

After thinking about it a little, I'm not mad at him. I'm just a bit disappointed. I'm sure the inevitable explanation video will help smooth things over a bit, but, as it stands, it really just seemed like...

  1. There was a better way he could've done this than just springing it on everyone so seemingly suddenly.
  2. If this does mean the end of Demo Reel, that seems really hasty for something he said was his dream project.
  3. It makes the stuff he did over the past few months seem kind of cheapened, especially since he said he'd stick to his decision.

I will say, though, it is Doug's decision and his alone to make, and none of us can say he is wrong for making the decision, even if we disagree with it. Do I personally wish he hadn't done this? Sure. He was moving onto new things and those new things were pretty decent. Do I have the right to scream at him and curse him about it? Absolutely not. I'm sure he knows what he's doing, and if he doesn't, well, that's his thing to deal with, I s'pose.

[up][up]...I love to watch it leave.

[up]Exactly!

That said, I feel like Demo Reel was his dream concept, but in execution it turned into a very different beast than what he originally intended.

And at least DR got its major arcs wrapped up and functions well enough as a miniseries.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

But all that Horrible Hollywood stuff, and the commentary on child actors, and the relationships, and the Lost in Translation bromance version... sad

[up][up][up][up] By episode 3, and everything after that though, it kept improving by leaps and bounds.

Nostalgia Critic certainly didn't improve that much in the first five episodes. Granted, he was still limited by the "one every week" rule, as well as the fact that he had a lot more experience with film-making when he started Demo Reel.

[up][up]It got all that out of its system. It said its peace.

Let's face it, Donnie was the only compelling character, and he was just the NC with a neato backstory.

I'll be honestly I wasn't really a fan of Demo Reel

I adored the episode with Uncle Yo. That was great, but I was never sold on the concept and I just kinda felt like I was forcing myself to watch it. Which is probably why I drifted in and out of the episodes not caring. So personally, I am glad to see NC is back. From what I can gather, it seemed that he either didn't like doing it anymore or felt that the ideas he had for NC would outweigh the ones for Demo Reel. Anyway, I don't know about that "no cutoffs" thing because I feel like doing more recent movies is something the other critics do but who knows. Maybe he'll still keep it more nostalgic

What I am worried about is the stuff that he had. As in that studio. Is he just gonna leave it alone? That thing cost money. And there had to be people that liked Demo Reel (just maybe it wasn't a majority)

By the way, the video itself, I really really liked. I think Doug is a good actor and the parts where The Writer and NC would talk to each other in TBF was my favorite part of it. I especially liked when he was talking to himself in the mirror. That was a good cut.

@Wackd But how, tell me how he was Critic. Cos I'm not seeing it.

And he's wanted to do this for years. You can't just leave after five episodes.

Oh my God, the comments on that Facebook link...

You will never truly know the terror I just inspired in my father who stays with me when I saw this and came out screaming like a 12 year old pop fangirl at a Bieber concert, sprouted out the whole happenstance in .2miliseconds, and gleefully skipped back to my room.

I will miss the growth i thought was starting to come from DR... well more like the characters...i hope in some way they can be incorporated into...something!

BUT OMG THE NC IS BAAAAAAACK!! FOLLOW THE NOSTALGIC ROAD, FOLLOW THE NOSTALGIC ROAD, FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW.... I'M OFF TO SEE THE CRITIC, THE WONDERFUL CRITIC OF CA!

...please get some help.

[up]x5 Well, okay, he was more "Doug Walker stock sketch character" than the Nostalgia Critic. There was something overly familiar in how Doug played it.

He wanted to do the concept of sweding. I'm a bit doubtful he's had Tacoma and Rebecca and so forth in his head for four years now.

But he loved his mom, and loved his friends, and wanted to have a good marriage with his wife, and apologized for being unfair in telling the family not to blink, and he cuddled guys, and wanted to be loved, and had a big bit about moving on and it's not fair to do that to him. sad

I don't think so. At cons he was saying he wanted to increase drama until people asked him to stop, and that was before Cerebus Syndrome hit Demo Reel.

...Maybe I'm taking this too personally, and I feel confident that I am, but I actually feel a little betrayed by this.

It's like I, a fan that respected his decisions, and respected the fact that he was burnt out, and respected the fact that he felt he didn't have any new ideas that could work with the old concept was cast aside for the whiny, stupid fans that were offended by the very concept of change, that felt Critic should go on forever, and he should never get to do anything he wanted to do as an artist.

I mean, I get it I guess. He's allowed to change his mind, sure. But his reasoning makes less than no sense. There is seemingly no progression at all, with him being excited as hell, and making the each Demo Reel better than the last one moment, then turning around the next.

And the worst part is that he's seemingly ignoring all those burned down bridges in his way. He designed TBF from the ground up to kill off the Critic. He stuck by that for ages, and now he's going back?

I'm going off what the hallucination!NC said. He had crossovers, conventions, weekly episodes, Doug's own life, and something else I may be missing. The dude got burned out on the Nostalgia Critic and wanted to do something else. He probably didn't want to mention that he would come back to eventually because he'd [[Probably get more people bugging him to bring the character]] which would only extend the burnout on the character. It wouldn't be about what he loves and more about what he feels he has to do for the viewers. By saying what he said for Demo Reel and letting that run it's course it let him rest up and bring back something he loved to do but was feeling it had turned into a chore.

[up]x5 His arc ended, though, and Rebecca and Tacoma had some background stuff sure but it never got to the point where it needed to be resolved.

Y'know what? Sometimes you fantasize about something and then you get to actually do it and it's not as cool as you thought it'd be. It happens.

HOW? HOW DO PEOPLE GET TWO ESSAY-LENGTH POSTS OUT IN THE TIME IT TAKES ME TO WRITE TWO SENTENCES?

There is seemingly no progression at all, with him being excited as hell, and making the each Demo Reel better than the last one moment, then turning around the next.
Because naturally we are privy to his personal life and his emotional state at any given time.

BTW: does someone know what happened to those other shows that were supposed to appear on TGWTG? A DVD-review show, a video game show, two game shows (one hosted by Brad), comic books show... I wonder if Tacoma or/and Rachel will host them (or at least if they will still be involved in Channel Awesome in some capacity.)

Just a person. He/him.

But he was so excited, even after the pilot that got the worst hit (and the comments did get better), and said all this good stuff about Character Development and plot and how cool the actors were. And what are Rachel and Malcolm gonna do now?

[up]x3 Because, again, we know exactly what's been going through his head all this time, are constantly privy to his emotions and his personal life, and he's going to tell us that he's getting bored of his highly-publicized, company-headlining production he worked so hard to get us excited for. Riiiiiiight.
