Alternatively alternatively, narrative law states that an important character like Booster can't die without making his Final Speech. He simply lingers until there's someone he can give his speech to... so if you don't talk to him, he lingers for so long that he makes a full recovery.

King had the misfortune of being mortally wounded in front of a door, so there wasn't any way for you to leave without talking to him. tongue

So the professor fell into a plot hole, but used the booster to fly out?

You mean all plot holes lead to the Labyrinth?

Then that means Misery makes plot holes!

Wait, it helps to not use Booster when flying through that room with all the falling blocks? Damn, I've been doing it wrong all this while.

I just tried my hand at a variety of Speed Run. Go through the game normally as fast as possible, no missiles, no glitches, human-style run with all endings played. Took me 3 hours 20 minutes til the Normal Ending (after I got the Bad), about 3 hours, 26 minutes, 40 seconds including a Hell run.

Took me longer than supposed to owing to drowning twice at the Core and a couple of stumbles.

Also I noticed one thing. Level 3 Blade ABSOLUTELY RAPES final form Ballos. Pity you can't keep it when taking damage.

I always hit final form Ballos with level 3 blade until I get hit, then switch to level 3 missiles.

Of course, I also take the time to level up all my weapons between rooms two and three, so...

So I just started Cave Story. Cute little platformer. Less explanation starting out than I like in my games these days but interesting. The motivations of the protagonist are kind of blurry. There are certain things I object to such as being forced to fight that Brace girl and having to shoot children in order to get to her.

Also objected to having to kill Toroko.

Who was Igor and what was he doing there?

King's design was too cool for him to die like a chump like that, but I am glad the level three blade is basically his spirit fighting on your behalf.

Why was Toroko the hardest boss thus far?

What the hell is Balrog?

And that's about it, I'm as far as the Labyrinth where I got killed by unexpected mining machine boss after giving that Brace girl a cure all.

You know about the true ending, right?

And then there was silence

First things first, welcome to this game.

Secondly, a lot of things make sense on later playthroughs, don't pay em too much mind.

Thirdly, Toroko+ is a Wake-Up Call Boss. She's intended to be that difficult.

Fourthly, one of the best methods to defeat Monster X (the mining "machine") is use the Level 2 or 3 Blade. Plus you have to physically stay on it. Also make it change directions before it rams you into one of the shield walls. Needless to say, Monster X is one of the few Puzzle Bosses in the game.

[up][up]I don't know anything about the game. My only knowledge of it was that recently Meta Four finally revealed that their avatar was a character from the game. Which I was happy to hear because it had baffled me for years but I never knew the proper way to address someone about avatars. Turns out it's of the Brace girl.

I don't remember having too much trouble until the normal final boss. But it's been five years since my first playthrough, so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

If I recall correctly (from playing the game about 9 years ago), I think the main trouble with Monster X is that there's just so much going on visually that it's hard to see the player-character's location sometimes.

From what I recall of my playthroughs, Monster X gave me quite a bit of trouble at first, but the final bosses gave me perhaps the most trouble. The problem for me there is that it's a Boss Bonanza, with no saving available between bosses—something that rather annoys me.

(I have beaten the secret level and its boss, as I recall, but I honestly don't remember how frustrating that was by comparison to the main boss set.)

Actually, the reason that you can't see yourself while fighting Monster X makes level 3 blade very, very useful.

I had trouble with the final boss sequence when I had the machine gun. But with the spur, they were far easier.

There better be some purpose to all this beyond watching everybody around you that you meet all die!

I actually had surprisingly little trouble with Monster X, I think I beat it on my second or even first try. I think jetpacking with the machine gun helped a lot. The final boss, though, I eventually put down the game for to wait for a day on which I feel awake and able to concentrate. That was years ago, and I'm currently seeing doctors about both, so. If I ever manage to beat this game, it'll be quite cathartic.

Saving one person in particular is both completely counter intuitive and the first thing that makes a happier ending possible.

I'll just say that the red line before a great mind's fall isn't for nothing. Just know that, in his desperation, he'll save himself.

In English, ignoring Booster when he drops into the labyrinth is the only way to get the good enindg.

People who have died for no good reason : Toroko, a little girl. King, The Doctor, Curly, and so many poor baby Dragons that were probably just scared and confused. My only remorse is that I didnt attack a single one. Except the Sisters because that was in self defense.

And how was it fair that the only way to fight Curly earlier was to also shoot the little kids that kid in the way?

Now I'm not saying this game is rather awful, but it's rather awful. I mean the events in the game are awful, the game itself is fine.

The point is that you can avoid most of the awful events if you do the right things.
