Yeah, I think I'll be using it for basically anything from now on. It seems far more effective than the element-proof mantles.
I unlocked the White Winds of the New World quest. I'm equal parts afraid and excited :P
That quest wasn't too bad; still tough. You've got about 5 mins or so until the next monster shows up.
It's not a big deal: you just fight normal HR monsters back-to-back. The catch is that the quest makes you fight two monsters at the same time: a new monster will appear a few moments after another one has been defeated. But if your party has made it this far, this shouldn't be too much of a problem. As for the rewards, it is the only quest where you can get a Research Commission Ticket, which is used in some very special gear - it's necessary for the final upgrade of the Handicraft Charm, for example. I must add it's just a bit tough quest, but pretty fun; did it with a friend of mine who has it.
The spoiler above is just about how the quest happens and the rewards available, in case someone doesn't want to know. XD

... And that's called jazz!Party? I did that one solo, lol. Even had to wait a minute for the Rathalos to show up after I put down the Diablos.
It was epic, though, because I had the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack blaring on my mp3 player as I did the quest.
You can solo if you want; I just felt he preferred doing it with a party. It's up to you, really. :P
... And that's called jazz!White Winds can either be really easy or really hard depending on your skill level.
The monsters are let in at 5 minute intervals so if you take longer than that to kill whatever's already in the arena things get more chaotic and much harder especially solo.
If you can take each of the four in under 5 minutes it's nothing more than fighting a Legiana, Odogaron, Diablos, and Rathalos; potentially even with a short break between fights to heal/sharpen.
I fought an Uragaan in World for the first time today, despite having the quest available for a while now. Did it always scatter bombs around when attacking? I don't remember it doing that in Generations, at least not to this extent.
On an unrelated note, I've noticed that if you're wearing a mantle when it times out, it stays equipped but turns into a gray grid-patterned blob. Seems like a graphical glitch or something.
Apparently the bomb scatter is new? The grid thing is intentional I think.
the grid thing is 100% intentionnal yeah.
And uragaan was doing something similar but not quite identical back then
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I didn't remember Urugaan having bombs back in Tri either, but I assumed it had been so long that I just forgot.
And yeah, when you put a mantle on, the outer layers wear off as time passes (or as you take hits, depending on the mantle), until eventually you're left with nothing but the 'grid' layer you're referring to, which I guess is actually some kind of mesh the outer 'active' layer is attached to. When the mantle's effect wears off, there's nothing left of the outer layer, so all you see is the inner layer, and yes, it remains equipped. It's also fairly important to unequip it after it wears off, because the cooldown until you can use it again doesn't begin until you take it off.

OK, that makes sense. I never noticed the pieces falling off over time.
i am officially a human sized chicken
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterSome Bird Wyverns are human-sized chickens too. Don't worry about it.
More seriously though, anything wrong?

... And that's called jazz!I am just wearing the entire face of a kulu
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterAnother good run with Mark. Captured Odogo and then we took on Kirin. Then a triple monster grand hunt in the Rotten Vale to bag Great Giros, Odogo, and Radoban. That run was very worth it given the flat Z reward was 13k+ and the materials.
After we finished playing for the day I kept thinking Kirin's theme should be the "Bad Horse Song".
Who watches the watchmen? That technically makes you a human-sized dodo, but yeah.
... And that's called jazz!Wait, you get a Kulu hat from that event quest? Crap, I'd better make one while I still have the chance! I hit high-rank a day too late for the Wiggler one, so hopefully they'll repeat it eventually. I've seen other event quests show up more than once, but they seem to be the ones that don't offer special rewards.
Kirin took several levels in badass compared to previous games. I used to find it more annoying than difficult, but the first time I fought it in World, it destroyed me. It hits a lot harder, and there's more variety to its lightning strikes. Doesn't help that Elderseal is tied to Dragon attacks, and Kirin is one of the few Elder Dragons that resists Dragon.

Good news!
Per Gaijin Hunter, almost all the events quests are coming back for the Spring Blossom Festival.
This will last April 6 through 20. Here's the video with specifics.
Highlights include: The Kulu head and the Wiggler head will both be available again. Also, if you missed out on the Horizon Zero Dawn gear, that's available too. Yay!
I believe so.
I finally got to Xeno’jiva and holy crap it’s so cool. Kinda looks like something out of Pacific Rim. It doesn’t have official art for some reason, so before I actually fought it, I only had a screenshot or two to go off of.
Haven’t beaten it yet, but I’ve only had one good try so far. I’ll probably get it next time now that I have a better sense of what to expect.
(I know most of you already know what the final boss is even if you haven’t reached it, but I’m spoiler tagging it this time just in case.)
Other than event quests I'm officially done with low rank hunts; still need to get 52 more monster bone+ for the rare 4 dragonbone weapons but I can get those from the smaller high rank monsters since I need to farm their materials anyway.
Current stats:
408 hours
HR 91
521 hunts
851 monsters hunted
Weapons: 14 rare 3, 56 rare 4, 61 rare 5, 103 rare 6, 12 rare 7, 22 rare 8, 19 left to forge (13 Deviljho weapons, 6 arena weapons)
We might have a new map incoming.
Guessing it's a cold area of some kind, although I hope it's something more interesting than another snowy field with caves. We have cool drinks but no hot drinks, and we really need more ice monsters since Legiana's the only one right now. I mean, all the elements besides fire and dragon are underrepresented, but lightning and water monsters can fit more neatly into existing locations.
Going off that...I know there's a lot of discussion about which monsters people want added as DLC, but I feel like I'm not in a good position to talk about it. I'd only played 4U and Gen before World (and never got around to hitting G-rank in 4U), so any monsters I'm familiar with will have been in one or both of those. That means they would've been available for anywhere between 2 to 4 of the most recent games...and given how inclusive Gen and XX were, there aren't many left that weren't. There are monsters I don't want to see back (Khezu, Congalala, Gypceros, I'm looking at you), but otherwise I'd be happy to see anything I haven't fought yet.

I have to say, the Rocksteady Mantle is GODDAMN AMAZING. Put that on with the Nergigante set bonus or the health regen augment on a weapon and you have a decently sustainable Berserker Mode.
