Killed him 3rd try in single player- dual blades with 45 seconds left.

I need some serious git gud practice. I was dying to stuff that was entirely preventable, outside of moves I just didnt know about.

Happy release day fellow hunters. Should we make a new thread for World or just stick with this one?

We didn’t make new theads for 3U, 4U, or Generations, so I’d assume we’re sticking with this one.

I have my copy, but it's gonna be another 90 minutes before I can actually play. So close and yet so far.

So I've never played any of the Monster Hunter series, but I'm sort of interested in giving it a shot. I generally like co-op games (though since I don't really know anyone who plays, I may end up playing with random people more often that not). My main thing is that I don't have PS+ and I'm not sure if I'll play often enough for it to be worth it.

What's the thread opinion on that? Is World a good place to pick up the franchise? Is playing with randos more frustrating than it's worth? Is a PS+ subscription worth it if I'm not going to play the game obsessively?

Not sure about the PS+ subscription, but about MH: yes. I'd even say that each new game in the franchise brings more reasons for one to join, what with the new features and quality-of-life updates. With all nice toys MHW is bringing, I'd say this applies more than ever.

As for hunting with randoms, it really depends on what you're after. I mostly have problems only regarding really powerful monsters or tough quests, but I end up finding a good party. Other option would be to stick around some streams of very nice players like Melf, Canta Per Me or Apex. Besides learning cool stuff and chatting with cool people, you tend to find good hunters more often too.

... And that's called jazz!

My experience with MH randoms has been pretty positive. To be fair, I never got around to hitting G-rank in 4U, so maybe that’s where all the "Stop Having Fun" Guy types hang out.

From my experience, most of them tend to be friendly, and people are usually willing to be forgiving if you screw up, especially if it’s something you haven’t fought before. It’s a tricky game, after all, and chances are that everyone will make mistakes at some point. I mean, if you triple-cart several times in a row, that’s a different story, but that’s less common than you’d think.

As far as randoms playing well, it’s kind of a mixed bag, but my experience is that they’re usually good enough to get the job done. If you end up with people who can’t, then it’s not hard to hop over to another room. Also, remember that it’s always an option to make your own room. That way you have more control over who sticks around.

Also, it’s pretty common for extremely strong hunters to drop into lower-rank rooms just to help out, which is nice if you’re working on your Hunter Rank.

I've played on and off since Tri and the MH online community's been pretty uniformly friendly and helpful in my experience. This game is also a really good jumping in point since they've streamlined a lot of frustrating features and greatly smoothed out the difficulty curve.

Question for those playing World right now; how do you get gajau whiskers? Ive killed dozens and only get skins. I really want those boots.

Edit: finally got some, seems like a rare drop.

I don't have World yet, but I'd really like to get it soon. Guess I'll be back here once I do.

[up][up] Good jumping in point, huh? Good to know. I have a brother who's played a bit of 4U but never really got into it, so maybe he'll like this one more.

Currently at HR 6 in Worlds after about 10 hours plus of playing. I heavily advice parking right here and filling out your weapon tree for later and getting your amour up to snuff also use the world map to via investigations to get back to Astora. You'll know what I mean when you get to it.

Been playing World and I'm loving it. Been a fan of the MH series for a while.

Doing an expedition in the forest, saw a Rathalos and was like "I can kill it; I've slain hundreds of these things over my MH career. I know it's moves, this'll be a snap".

Boy was I wrong, lol.

Tobi-Kadachi is the one who gave me the most trouble so far. Still haven't had a failure yet, though.

Anjanath has been the most troublesome for me. I beat him solo first time, with one faint, but my friend failed to beat him, and when we tried together we also failed. Tobi-Kadachi was the first one that made me feel like yeah, the real Monster Hunter is about to begin, being noticeably tougher than anything previously. It put me in mind of Barioth, with its speed.

Maybe I should have figured this out by now, but with the modified Skill mechanic, is there still a reason to wear a complete armor set beyond cosmetics?

I believe it still works the same way. I haven't seen an armour set with matching skills that stack yet though. I'm still sorta relearning the game and figuring out the changes.

Welp, I picked it up. Was actually kinda hard to find — Amazon has it on backorder for 2-4 weeks, and my local Target and Best Buy were both sold out. Got one of the last copies at Gamestop instead. I shelled out for some PS+ time too, so we'll see how that goes. Downloading updates and whatnot now, I'll let you know my first impressions when I have a chance to play for a bit.

So spent a couple hours playing, though an embarrassingly large chunk of that was customizing my character. Got through the intro and the first tutorial quest, and spent some time messing around with different weapons in the training area. Ended up going with sword and shield, but I'm not sure if I'm entirely satisfied with it. I'm still figuring out the combat mechanics, but we'll see how it goes.

Proof that I'm too used to Nintendo consoles: when I got to the point where multiplayer is unlocked and it asks if you want to turn voice chat on, I was like "oh yeah, voice chat is a thing". I have a USB headset but I've never set it up on my PS 4 before. I'll have to mess with that, too.

4x[up]There are set bonuses on certain armors; the first you see is the Anjanath set and they seem to be only on armor from the more powerful monsters.

35-40 hours in and I think I'm just about to high rank; I've done a bunch of 5* quests and the next pair of quests is sending me after Rathalos and Diablos.

The only monster that's given me trouble so far is Radobaan but that's mostly down to my weapon of choice being the Long Sword and severing weapons being next to useless against it.

Some people are reporting that their designs from the character creators aren't translating over very well into the game world proper. It's led to some... interesting results.

Just turn your helmet on, imo.

Maybe I'm a turning into a grizzled, bitter 20 something but I've never cared all that much in a game where you're typically covered in head to toe in body obscuring armor, anyway.

On a more pleasant subject, it's crazy how much more convenient the game has made a lot of old issues. If you forget traps, potions, or other items in your box before you gone on a quests, you can just pop into your tent and grab the stuff up. Stocking up on Tranq Bombs or potions is easier than ever since you can set the game to autocraft as soon as you pick up the appropriate materials. And if you mess up capturing something you can quickly fast travel back to your tent and either pull out more traps or craft them using your item box's stockpile of materials.

I kind of love how some of my favorite armor and weapon sets come from very simple places. I wouldn't have thought to harvest vespoids until I found out they made a badass looking set, the gajau boots look great, and I love the shamos goggles. And just look at the king beetle helmet you get for harvesting a beetle.

Also, beat Legiana solo on my first try, and got to slay Kirin with a group. The armor is ridiculous but I want it.

My current set us shamos goggles, tzitzi jacket, Legiana belt, kadachi gloves, and gajau boots. I want to keep this set til the end game I love it so much, I look like a swashbuckler. Maybevi should switch from longsword to twin blades. Some of the girros stuff is cool too.

Edit; is it weird I beat Legiana solo when I hadn't even reached the rotten vale yet?

Well I finally hit my wakeup call; the first 6* hunt (fighting Zorah Magdoros for real) that presumably unlocks high rank is one hell of a difficulty spike. I got partway through then Nergigante shows up and wipes me.

[up][up] I don't think so. Can you even fight Legiana without reaching the Rotten Vale? You visit part of the Vale, where you fight Radobaan, and then you get stopped by Legiana trying to reach the other part of it, I thought.

I solo'd Legiana too. Took 45 minutes, but I did it ¬_¬

I haven't looked at my character's face close up during gameplay. Never noticed anything weird though, and it looks fine in cutscenes.

[up] I don't think that unlocked high rank. You rank up for sure, but I'm pretty sure high rank is going to be an endgame thing.
