More:

Dual blades looks fun. I wasn't a fan of longswords in Tri though. If I remember right, their wide swings would hit other players and interrupt their actions. I always thought people who used them were arseholes.

Are switch-axes still a thing? They were my weapon of choice in Tri, followed by guns and then sword-and-board.

Edit - Yes, switch-axes are still a thing.

For some reason I thought this was only Ps 4, then I learned today it's also on Xbone. Hell yeah!

Hopefully they didn't change the great sword too much. On the original game and Freedom Unite I was godly with one.

I could never get the hang of the greatsword. It required good timing, which I lack. I recognise that it's powerful in skilled hands though.

Not that much, actually. It gained popularity as a hit-and-run weapon, so you don't really need to time charged attacks all the time.

Heck, back in 4U people would put Punish Draw in their GS sets and stun targets with them. [lol]

It did require a long time for me to get timing down, but once I did, whoo I whooped ass with it.

Two new videos on World, guys!

The first one is about the Wildspire Waste, the new desert area. Lots of returning faces: Barroth, Lavasioth (fighting in the mud; perhaps a subspecies?) and Diablos. And some new ones: a Dodo-like Bird Wyvern that carries rocks around (Kulu Ya-Ku is its name) and what looks like a chameleon wyvern. And what looks like the final boss appears at the end. Maybe it's Lao?

The second one shows us part of our daily hunting business: accepting quests in the Gathering Hall (maybe), carving (uninterrupted carving is back from MHX, nice) and forging (and apparently we'll have a whole view at the weapon tree now, which is awesome.

The hype is real, man.

Dat voice commentary, lol

One thing I still don't get is that, apparently, they were going to change the armor skill point system: you wouldn't have to get a certain amount of points to activate a skill, and the more points you have, the better the skill gets. Though there are skills that could fit this well (Raw/Elemental/Status Attack and Defense/Resistances, Handicraft and Sharpness, for example), there are others that I'm not sure about, like immunities,heat/cold resistances, Capture/Tranquilizing Guru, etc. Guess we'll have to wait and see whether there will be changes and how they are going to work.

I can't remember how those things worked exactly now, but things like elemental resistance could simply be a percentage reduction that increases with better stats or whatever.

So, Arekkz has interviewed our beloved producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, and World's director, Yuya Tokuda. Free DLC quests (collabs and all) will remain, although they're planning some different stuff for them. And they're seemingly going to merge Village and Guild Quests (so the story will progress even in High Rank) and add more character customization.

No, no G-Rank, but this is the first game of the generation, so nothing new here.

Oh, and one more thing: Egg Quests are going to be revamped to be less shitty. Amen!

at the very least egg quests give players stories of bullshit they get to share

but seriously, thank god they're getting changed

[up][up][up] I'm not sure what some of that means, having been out of the Monster Hunter loop since Tri, but what I understand sounds good :)

whelp. picked up monhan4u again, tried to refamiliarize myself with the weapons before i went back into high rank

tried out the arena for the first time, picked a charge axe against a kecha

...

never doing that again. obviously they gave me the shittiest tier of charge axe you can get, but its still infuriating to take 25 minutes out of 30 to kill a kecha.

and it reminds me why i stopped playing when i reached high rank quests, too.

The difficulty spike is real. I remember when I got to G-Rank back in FU and got humiliated by an Emerald Congalala [lol]

Then again, I was too scrubby to upgrade my armor back then...

the beginning of high rank can be a bit rough since you don't have high rank equipment yet for obvious reasons, but high rank shouldn't take much longer than low ranks quests did once you have appropriate equipment (even if it's from the relatively easier monsters like kecha wacha)

Yea. I think I could help out though, if you want.

First priority when you've gone up a rank is definitely pulling together a better armor set. Even the easier monsters will give you something that's better than what you have, and you can use that to get even better sets.

yeah first thing i did today was get some new armor. from all sorts of sets, so nothing useful skill wise, but at least my defence has doubled for now. i also forged a new longsword from scrach. it has bomb status. its nice.

whats not nice is the purple gypceros. i completely forgot fighting it with a longsword is a terrible idea and ive never regretted 20 minutes of my life as much as i did then.

was there a specific trick to getting gore magala feelers? i vaguely remember something to do with mounting.

Nope, just break its horns when they're out. They're the feelers.

[up][up]Successfully mounting and toppling the Gore Magala just makes it easier to attack the feelers undisturbed for a while. If you're aiming for the feelers, don't mount the Gore Magala too much before it goes into "Eclipse Mode" so that you can knock it down for a mount more easily once it does.
