Karkat: She was told that Daein is doomed if they don't do as Begnion tells them to, which is stopping Sanaki's forces from Begnion. Since they're a smaller force having to fight a massive army, Micaiah goes all out and uses tactics that Sothe even points out she dislikes. It's pretty much played as a life or death scenario.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiI remember back in the day getting into a heated discussion with some people about that because they treated it as a Moral Event Horizon. That probably biased my view from those discussions as I forgot their army was much smaller.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Well, I'd say the context is different in that one is an attempt to deal with a imperialist aggressor, and the other is a fight that could easily be solved with non-violence, but that option isn't available.
I'd lay the blame at Lekain's feet here, personally. Does the game really blame Micaiah? I haven't played the Tellius games, so I can't really answer here.
It certainly sounds like in both cases unconventional and widely destructive tactics were needed to survive.

Oh God! Natural light!I remember reading a discussion on those two scenarios and the differences between them, but I haven't played RD so I can't give a fair appraisal.
Life ending? Say it ain't so. Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.
The game itself doesn't really treat Micaiah too badly that way. I mean, it tries pretty hard to justify her actions. A lot of people just didn't buy the reasons. Of course, it's might not help that the entire time, the alliance, including the likes of Ike and Sanaki, are constantly calling her insane (and really, her silence and actions end up making her look the part).
And yeah, Lekain is the one who crossed the horizon (likely before either game began). He basically leveled a weapon of mass destruction at Daein to force them into being his cannon fodder.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiLekain's been parked on the other side of the horizon and loving it for a long time. He gave the order at Serenes, remember.
Well, if the game doesn't treat Micaiah like it's her fault, then I say the difference lies in her army being turned into weapons of a power-mad despot.
Oh God! Natural light!Up until that reveal, though, most of the in-universe characters do think Micaiah did something pretty messed up.
Well, to be fair, it is. It's just that nobody knows that she has a metaphorical gun pointed at her countrymen's collective head, right?
Again, it's a fight that could have been avoided.

Oh God! Natural light!Wow, are the past two pages all still about the fire ships?
I don't really see how the fire ship plan (in Awakening; I haven't played the game Micaiah's in) could be called any less moral than waiting for the ships to make landfall and killing the same people with swords and magic. It's a war, and one against a conquering force.

It's been fun.Micaiah's 'dirty tactics' are an oil-fire thing and triggering a landslide while the enemy army is in a canyon.
Really, it's their fault for going through a place that so easy to ambush.
Song of the SirensI'd say that if I had a complaint with the incident with the ships, it's that everyone's rather blasé about the whole thing, considering the sheer amount of carnage involved. But isn't that true for most of the game, really? I mean, we could have a discussion about just how many grief should be felt for enemy combatants, and how well Awakening as a whole does with that, but it's not really a unique example, is it?
Oh God! Natural light!I believe that's called Protagonist-Centered Morality.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Or, by this point, everyone's realized that the sooner they stop caring about the death and carnage that happens in a war, the better.
Henry's support with Ricken directly deals with What Measure Is A Plegian, actually. And none of the Shepherds aside from Olivia, Maribelle and Donnel (I think) are any stranger to killing, though doing it as part of a war rather than driving off bandits is probably new to them.
It's been fun.I had an idea to deal with What Measure Is a Mook?, actually. Maybe I'll post it later...
Oh God! Natural light!Give me a bit. I've got some work I need to get done.
Oh God! Natural light!Draj becoming Candace makes sense. Retains the candy pun.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!... Forrest?
Really?
Leo uses trees to attack people.
I know, but still.
I can see the Forrest Gump memes starting already.
Hydrocarbon based weaponry has existed for quite a while.
Interestingly nerve agents date to about the same time used by the koreans.
