Medinoc: That's a Scarpa story, and it is appearently a little Affectionate Parody of Alfred Hitchcock's movies...

A lot of things popular in "European" comics were either originally created by American writers for the American market, or were written and drawn for the European market by American comics creators, at a stage where you couldn't sell Disney comics in the US but they were very sellable in Europe.

Get ready to SOIL YOUR UNDERWEAR

Coming next Summer, Boom! plans on releasing the following...

Walt Disney Treasury: Donald Duck Volume 1 by Don Rosa - June 7th

Walt Disney's Comics and Stories Archives Volume 1 by Floyd Gottfredson and Al Taliaferro - July 5th

Walt Disney Treasury: Donald Duck Volume 2 by Don Rosa - August 2nd

Disney's Four-Color Adventures Volume 1 by Al Taliaferro and Jack Hannah - August 2nd

All of 'em are 160-pages-long trader paperbacks with a retail price of $14.99. Where did I found this? Glad you ask. There's some on-going speculation for a possible Carl Barks collection as well, but only time will tell...Albeit these are some incredibly sweet news already! What do you guys think?

I didn't notice it. Now, I know Gottfriedson is the mouse man and Don Rosa is the second-best Duck artist, but who're the other two again?

Al Taliaferro is only the guy who started out making Donald Duck comics and did so for decades. Without Taliaferro, no Barks, and no Rosa. In fact, there only was a DD comic strip because Taliaferro pested until they let him draw one. Donald wasn't a hero, see. Like Mickey.

He didn't draw the same long adventure stories for Donald that Barks did, and that's one reason he is forgotten, but he draw the daily Donald strip for what, 50 years. He also invented some minor characters like, oh, I don't know, Huey, Dewey and Louie? ;)

Jack Hannah did some comics (he worked with Barks in the beginning) but mostly worked in animation - he was basically behind all Donald animation ever. Some Duck fans refer to him as "Donald's other daddy", Daddy One being Barks.

^Interesting.

You know, I wonder. Don Rosa's been retired for what, five, ten years now? When are we getting the next great duck artist? Is there someone I don't know about? Haven't been able to keep up with the Mouse-and-Duck-verse comics as much as I'd like. I've been focusing on Boom!'s Incredibles series.

^Hhhm. It's likely there are already heaps of excellent foreign stories that we haven't gotten translated yet...One can only wonder, however, if Don Rosa's retirement is definitive...Wouldn't it be great to have one last story from the man before all is said and done?

Regarding Jack Hannah, I always found ironic how he's thought of as a foster father to the animated Donald, given how he admitted hating Don's voice, arguing the Duck wasn't deep enough for elaborate stories (nevermind how he used to work along with Carl Barks) and starting a severe Flanderization on Donald's character, by creating Chip And Dale, Spike the Bee, and other foils that only cut down story possibilities in favor of tired formulas. As the final nail on the coffin, Don suffered being Out of Focus during this period...Sure, there were some instances that averted all of this, but scarce they were, yessir.

Now, Jack King, that guy is tragically underrated when talking about the animated Donald.

Sucks that all these classic content releases are costing us new releases to Incredibles or Muppet Show. Especially with the cliffhanger they left Incredibles on. Though there's still hope seeing as Robert Langridge has mentioned that his last arc on Muppet Show is being held back for sometime later in 2011, that might be the case with Incredibles and Toy Story.

Doesn't these planned releases for February count as more Incredibles/Muppets volumes? ...Seriously, I wouldn't know tongue

Those are just trades of the arcs that finished back in October. Muppet Show isn't quite as annoying a delay because of it's mostly self-contained story arcs. Incredibles on the other hand has had an entire Myth Arc it's been building up and now we might end up being cut off from the huge payoff. Especially when the issue we've stopped at has the death of Underminer (shot in cold blood after outliving his usefulness) and the family being run out of town by a mind controlled populace that is welcoming it's new supervillain "saviors"

Don Rosa has always got issues with editors. No one can say when he'll start writing for other artists...

Landry Walker's joined the Pixar Planet forum to address the whole Incredibles delay.

"The book is currently on hold. I don't know for how long. The next arc (16-19) is written (many months ago) and the first issue of it has long since been drawn. I actually started mapping this storyline out back around the time we did the first issue of the series. This arc is kind of the crazy big finale, where elements dating back from the initial mini-series and even the film all come together at once.

Anyway, I'm sorry the book is delayed. It kills me a little bit to see the series stop on the penultimate chapter. It's kinda like if the film ended with the plane blowing up. Everything stopping on a dark note, with all the plot lines left unresolved. I've also been playing a long game with the title. So theoretically, if you have been following the entire run you get the advantage of a slow build to the absolute insanity that is this last arc. But without the last arc, it just kinda... ends. Darkly.

That said, it gets alot darker before the end.

Unfortunately, I don't have any specifics in regards to scheduling plans yet. But I'll absolutely post any new info as soon as I am able. I know that it's very frustrating to get to this point in the story and then have to wait. Well... it's frustrating for me. I assume everyone else in the world must automatically share my pain. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that myself and the staff at Boom haven't just vanished and that the Unforgiveables arc isn't just a myth. Scripts and art have been produced, Xerek's master plan will be revealed, the history of Bob and Helen will be explored, a member of the family will suffer terribly and everyone born on the 7th of June will...

Well, a bunch of stuff will happen. Everyone from every previous issue (that hasn't been killed already) has a part to play. Lots of stuff. Sadly, I just don't yet know when it will be released."

OK, so, Disney comic fans: I'm looking for some good stories. Can anyone recommend something for any of the following?

A)A good Mickey,Donald, and Goofy story. I know the three play off each other frequently in cartoons, but in comics, as far as I know, it's usually been Goofy acting as Mickey's sidekick while Donald does his own thing.

B)A good Phantom Blot story. Something that really defines his character.

C)Anything with weasels, because those guys are like my favorite Mooks ever.

D) A good Three Caballeros story aside from the one Don Rosa wrote.

Can someone help a guy out?

By the way, is there any (out-of-universe) relation between Atomo Bleep-Bleep and Eega Beeva? Is any of them an expy, or a character influenced by the other or were they pure "parallel evolution"?

@Punchy:

A "Mickey Mouse and the seven ghosts" (Floyd Gottfredson). Done before Donald's modern characterization by Barks. http://disneycomics.free.fr/Mickey/show.php?loc=YM031

B "Mickey outwits the Phantom Blot" (Floyd Gottfredson). http://disneycomics.free.fr/Mickey/show.php?loc=YM039 [lol]

C http://coa.inducks.org/character.php?c=Tough-looking+weasels&view=4&c1=date This could help you.

D Well, I don't know many of them, Zé Carioca was mainly used by the Brazilians as a solo character, I know a 1944 story but it sucks. I know this one that was pretty good http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=B+850129 Check other 80's stories.

So we're getting a proper Duck Tales ongoing over at Boom to go with the rest of their Disney Afternoon lineup, and it's being written by Warren Spector to boot!
