Out of curiosity, NDC, have you ever looked into History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi? It's another one of those manga series that seems like it'd fit into Unequally well, not that there's any lack of crossover in your fic already.

"Sometimes it is better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness." -Terry Pratchett@Jappy: Phew. Good to know, that. Let's inject some craziness into the proceedings, before Anemoi castrates me with a tackhammer.
The next day
Nodoka woke before Yue or Haruna, climbing out of bed and stretching as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. She dully heard her roommates shift to that state of light sleep they always hit when about to wake, and thus made sure to get dressed quietly.
When she was ready, she looked around for Kyubey. It wasn't in the same place as last night, and she wondered idly if it had all been just an elaborate dream.
/Puella Magi/, she smiled to herself. /Well, it was a nice idea. I wonder what I would have wished for.../
As I told you, anything you could imagine.
"Kyubey!" Nodoka tried to keep the volume down as she turned to see the little creature perched on the sill, primarily hidden by the curtains.
It jumped down and sat on the floor, closing its eyes in a cheery expression. Morning, Nodoka-chan!
Nodoka moved over to her bag, checking through to make sure she had all of her notes ready for the day. When Kyubey hopped over to her and attempted to wriggle between her hands to get inside her bag, however, she tried to pull him out.
"Um, Kyubey-san, aren't you going to stay behind?"
The odd little being tilted its head at her. Why? I have to do my job, and people who can become Puella Magi aren't going to be here during the day.
Nodoka thought for a moment. "B-but aren't people going to see you and give me funny looks?" She nervously pushed the tips of her fingers together — an old nervous habit that had apparently decided to resurface on this very day.
Don't worry about that, Nodoka-chan. I can only be seen by the people I let myself be seen by.
"W-well, okay..." Another thought hit her. "But what about your wounds? Last night you were really in—"
As I told you, I'm fine. As if to prove his point, Kyubey did a little jump and flip in midair. Nodoka covered her mouth with her hand to stifle a giggle at its energy.
"Okay, then," she said, smiling. "Get in. But fast, before Haruna and Yue wake up."
Kyubey tilted its head to the side, but quickly entered her bag and made itself comfy in its cramped confines.
As if on cue, Haruna sat ramrod straight in her bed, clawing at the air and announcing her awakening by yelling "LOUD NOISES!"
Then she blinked, and noticed that she was awake.
"Oh hang on, this isn't movieland."
Yue groaned on the bunk below her, having jolted up in a panic as Haruna yelled and banged her head on the boards. "Haruna, it's too early for this..."
"That's Paru-sama to you, peon!" Haruna leapt down from the bunk in her sleepwear, having gone from catatonic to blindly awake in a fraction of a second. Yue only groaned in response, dragging a hand over her long-suffering expression.
"Um... Haruna, Yue," Nodoka spoke.
"'m?" Her two friends stopped, currently wrestling and trying to extend mouths far past where they were meant to go.
"I think it's about time we left for class..." Nodoka pointed at the clock on the wall.
...
"CRAP!"
Nodoka, next to her friends, left the train and began running. On the way out, a little boy, red-haired and with a staff on his back caught her eye. He seemed rather overwhelmed and she was about to approach him, when Haruna tugged on her sleeve and pulled her onwards. "C'mon! Wanna be late, miss super-early start?"
"R-right!", Nodoka answered hastily and followed her. /You okay back there, Kyubey-san?/
I'm fine, although — ow! — a little less jostling wouldn't hurt.
Yes, the coming days would indeed bring great changes for Nodoka Miyazaki.
I'm pretty confident about cutting off the chapter here, but what d'you guys think? Too short?

Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)
Check back with us in 24 hours.
"Sometimes it is better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness." -Terry PratchettOooooh dear.
Will do.
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)@Iniquitus: Seems like a decent length for a prologue.
@SCM: Episode 8. Her jaw was practically on the floor. Later in the scene, she said Yum.
Cheers, mate. I appreciate the input, even though it doesn't seem like it sometimes.
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)Mage, do you think the Gurren Lagann heroes can fix PMMM?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.(Thinks about it...)
No... this is beyond even them, I think. They tried that on episode 9. It didn't end well. It went FAR, FAR from well, actually. They might need a Keyblade for this just to destroy... you know. See, THIS is what Kingdom Hearts would be like if light and darkness were absolutes that didn't bend for protagonist power...
@Iniquitus: Cubey's being too energetic. He conserves his energy, and is less enthusiastic than most animal mascots. Conservation of energy is, literally, his thing. Also, only those with the potential to be a Puella can see him, so chances are even mage teachers can't. A frightening thought.

Okay... So do you think Negi in his current state/level can fix it, assuming he was informed beforehand of just how screwed the situation is and given a couple of days to plan?
... Man, my fanfic idea generator seems to have broken down for the moment. Bummer.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Kill you-know-what at you-know-when? Just about possible, depending on what you-know-who's powers are.
Fix the situation? No way in hell. We're talking Spirals and Anti-spirals, Heartless and Nobodies stuff here. And until we see what the last episodes bring to the table, it appears THE KEYBLADES JUST MAKE THE SITUATION WORSE!
BTW, who do we talk to about ad-placement? Because the add down below is CRAPPILY placed. I think they literally put it there so we accidentally click when moving forward...
Also, since it's been a while, I ask people one more for help with my wiki and the 2814 page.

Wow, Madoka is screwed even worse than Evangelion! I'm torn on whether I should watch it for myself or stay as far away as possible from it; some of the spoilers on the main article and character sheet are... Aiyyyyyeeeeeee! I even get the worrying feeling that they're downplaying the true horror for the sake of the spoiler readers' sanity.
... Are we sure Anno isn't suffering from psychological breakdown again?
As for the ads... Either Wiki Talk or Tech Wishlist should be the place for such issues, I think.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.@SCM: I think I will leave Kyubey acting the way it does in the story, but I'll make sure to tone it down a bit in future.
Also, thanks for avoiding spoiling the story for me, all of you. I appreciate it. Unless the reason you're avoiding that is to get even more amusement out of my reaction to events, in which case I refer you to my previous boast.

Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)Yup, it is. Madoka is the Eva of the new age. And somehow I doubt Urobuchi is going to come to his senses in a few years and redo it as a series of movies to make the fandom rejoice.
But, Eva-sama help me, I think you should STILL watch it.
Hey, it's courtesy between Tropers. We're a relatively small community here, so we can't act like asses like in the main thread.
But once more, let me repeat: COMFORT FOOD!

I'm gonna be fine. When all else fails, I have adult!Eva's breasts to help me out!
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)I think they're trying to protect you from the true horrors rather than wanting to get some amusement from your reactions. I've seen some of the spoilers on the character page a few weeks ago, and let me tell you, it's starting to make Shinji Ikari's suffering look like Tuesday.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Fortunately for me, the mental scarring passes me by because I have never seen even a fragment of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
:P
Edit: If all else fails and I really do feel borderline suicidal, I'll likely go back and Pot Hole all of my previous bravado to Famous Last Words.
Or Genre Blind, if that fits better.

Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)Dude, it makes a LOVECRAFT character's suffering seem small. They would all happily go back to spend time with Cthulthu to get SANE again.
edited 29th Mar '11 3:13:02 AM by SCMof2814
Haven't read Lovecraft's stuff either.
Nyah nyah, can't scaaaare me~.
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)High Octane Nightmare Fuel and Tear Jerker, a lot them of the psychological/emotional kind, both Up To Eleven and with an extra helping of There Are No Therapists.
Nah, nothing beats Lovecraftian Eldritch Abomination-induced Brown Note... unless there is an Eldritch Abomination in Madoka that is even more of a Brown Note than its Lovecraftian predecessors!

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Okay, too much detail Marq, no listing actual tropes.
...
But yeah. It kinda reminds me of Animorphs, except EVERYTHING is compressed into 12 books instead of 60. That intense. You know how I fell about Stephenie Meyer? I prefer her to Cubey. What she does is less evil than what happens in Madoka!
...
And in case someone can't tell, this is all in good fun, so no need to tell us to cut it out.
edited 29th Mar '11 3:19:01 AM by SCMof2814
Uh, which potholes are you taking issue with? I thought they were vague enough - and for the record, I don't know if there is an Eldritch Abomination in Madoka.
edited 29th Mar '11 3:17:57 AM by MarqFJA
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Again, haven't seen/read that. You're gonna have to try harder than that.
Okay. That would have an effect on me, except I'm:
A) Too stupid to realise when he should leave well enough alone;
B) I can't actually say I've ever suffered through High Octane Nightmare Fuel ever before. I mean, yeah, I get the odd panic attack when I start wondering what the hell actually happens after our mortal bodies disappear and what we actually are, but I highly doubt that an anime will be able to mentally hurt me that badly.
Oh, and for references' sake: When I say 'panic attack', I mean I actually feel physical revulsion and complete bodily shutdown. I go into a virtual coma, and only thinking very strongly about things other than the incredibly distant future of existence snaps me out of it.
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to go whimper a little.
(No, seriously. I hate so much as typing what I think about during my panic attacks.)

Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)Wait, the High Octane Nightmare Fuel, Tear Jerker and There Are No Therapists thing was about Neon Genesis Evangelion. What, you thought I was talking about Madoka?
Of course it's all in good fun. I never doubted that.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
Aw, how cute. Such delusions give such power...
