On rewatch, the Team really should've realized that Captain Marvel was a kid in a man's body.

The YJ version of Aqualad is something of a mixed bag for me. I think he made a good leader and his quiet, introverted personality played off against the more extroverted characters. His views on leadership, that it was a burden not to be taken lightly, was admirable and endearing. The episode "Alpha Male" was a good display of his strength and weaknesses at the same time. On the other hand, I feel there was more that could have been done with Kal. We didn't know much about what it was like for him to grow up in Atlantis and his friends there. In fact, we were never told what he did in his spare time, if he lived in Mt. Justice or went to school like M'gann and Connor. And it really would have been nice to know what he had to do to get in Manta's good graces.

And it really would have been nice to know what he had to do to get in Manta's good graces.

he had to throw eggs at the side of the Hall of Justice, and the shape of the egg splatter had to perfectly resemble Black Manta's helmet. Kaldur also had to record this act as proof he actually did it. tongue

I always liked Kaldur. In the earlier episodes, he was usually the voice of reason in a group of rather volatile personalities. Fortunately, the others got better over time (I'd say that you could save for certain that the team is working by "Bereft"), which is nice.

I liked Kaldur a lot too. Though I have been rewatching the series the past few days and I can really see why I did. The series had this little issue of making the majority of the team in the beginning rather unlikable, except for Kaldur because there wasn't enough to him to make him unlikable. However him being calm, level headed, and experienced also made him sort of boring and we never got to learn much about what he did as a person besides being a leaguer.

I think the show could have used a season in between season 1 and Invasion and put the time skip in the mid-season or something because I don't think we were given enough of a chance to know and grow with the team before they started the Loads and Loads of Characters train, especially since the newer characters were getting tons of the development while whatever maturity we got from the main team happened offscreen too much in the time skip.]

Not that I didn't like the new guys and I have to be thankful that they got rid of Conner's cloning blues and extreme anger issues and Megan's... Everything from season one, but they could have used more time...

We do see a bit of Kaldur's school life in Atlantis in one of the arcs in the comic book tie-in. He used to go to school there to learn Atlantean magic, but had to drop out to become both Aquaman's protege and the leader of The Team. Which is why his constructs are rather basic and primitive compared to the stuff Tula, Garth, and Queen Mera create in "Downtime".

I'm kinda sad Kaldur hasn't made the jump to the New 52, but considering what they did to Artemis, I'm good.

[up][up] Well, it depends on who you're talking about. Sure, Bart and Jaime got their share of development, as did Gar and Lagann (is that how you spell his name), but Tim and Cassie...didn't really get much.

I didn't hate M'gann in season 1, but I did like her a lot more in season 2. That said...the fact that she tried to mind wipe Superboy...I'm not saying that people aren't allowed to make mistakes, but I do think that was sort of glossed over (of course, it happened during the time skip, so it's easier that way). If I was writing the series, I wouldn't have hinted that they would get back together.

I'm still disappointed we didn't get Donna Troy. If I ever wrote a Teen Titans series, I'd make sure to have her.

You know, since season 2 is six episodes shorter than season 1, I was kind of thinking about writing a short fic made up of six "missing stories" that take place at certain periods during the season, mostly covering characters that were Out of Focus, and maybe to use some personal favorites of mine...

I would really like a Teen Titans or Young Justice show that focuses on the time period where Tim led it. Tim has kind of gotten the short end of the stick in regards to adaptations, since he's rarely allowed to really be established as his own character in adaptations the way Dick is.

[up]Agreed, From my research and from what I understand if anyone was going to "Grow up to be just like Batman" it would be Tim Drake, kid detective, boy genius (Okay, just really smart), seems more serious minded than the Dick Grayson we're familiar with. The contrast between him and Dick would have been so interesting and would help audiences get a ebtter grasp on Tim.

@karkat, Basically you describe exactly what I meant and boy was I disappointed by what little they got out of Cassie and Tim. They did more with Mal (which I liked and I found impressive) and the Superfriends/Ultimen expies (Because I'm a sucker for recurring meta callbacks I can't fault them for this one.) than they did with others who probably deserved a greater shot at the spotlight.

You are right though, the thing where M'Gann tried to mindwipe Superboy was too glossed over. That is a much more serious issue that should have been handled more deeply, especially in the wake of her development regarding her using her telepathy to break people.

[up] Well, if the "Hush" arc is anything to go by, Batman himself thinks that Tim Drake will be the World's Greatest Detective one day, so I think you might be one to something there.

That said, I really like Nightwing (the character in general, not just here), so...I'm conflicted putting more focus on Tim in that regard. He and Cass definitely needed some more here. Maybe they could have gotten an episode with the two of them focusing on Cassie, another with the two of them focusing on Tim, and then an episode with them, Impulse and Superboy - a tribute to the original Young Justice team!

Wasn't sure what to think of Mal sometimes. He seemed kind of needy. I mean, during "War" I was like, "Dude, personal issues can wait until after the critical mission to save the Earth!" Maybe Karen could have treated him better, but I wasn't sure if he treated her so hot either. At least they made up...

Loved the Runaways, though. It says something about the pacing of the second season that I felt that two episodes focusing on them was good enough to get me to like them. Of course, I actually watched some of the old Superfriends cartoons back in the day, so I was familiar with the characters they were Expiesof (with the exception of El Dorado, whom I can't remember at all). And of course, "Tye Longshadow" reminds me of Longshadow on Justice League, so bonus points there.

Didn't DCNU Tim lose several degrees of intelligence and sleuthing skills, to the point he didn't deduce Batman's identity on his own anymore?

Yeah, i grew up with Superfriends as well so I was familliar with all the expies too. Also, Longshadow was rather well liked in JLU so they probably thought it was good to reuse the name for YJ. Also, because naming a hero "Apache Chief" wasn't exactly the best way to go about doing things these days.

There is basically a direct line for each character, Apache Cheif>Longshadow the Ultiman>Tye Longshadow, Black Vulcan>Juice>YJ Static, Samurai>Wind Dragon>Asami, and El Dorado>Ed Dorado (Ha ha, very funny, guys.)

and you know, when I first heard of young Justice I was rather looking forward to Superboy because I had heard about how amusing he was back in the day. Getting angry cliche clone blues angsterboy was a disappointment. And yeah, him teaming up with Impulse and Tim would have been pretty rad.

I imagine El Dorado didn't have a JLU counterpart partly because Teleportation can come off as either useless or too overpowered depending on the train of thought.

I too had issues with Mal going on about personal stuff during the mission but at least throughout the series I could see a direct line of his character developing, starting out as big guy on campus, feeling inadequate now that his girlfriend is super and is surrounded by people with powers or advanced training and gadgets, finding his own way to be involved or on their level, and eventually a certain amount of acceptance. It had it's issues but I didn't hate it.

I loved the Runaways team too and as a fan of Milestone stuff I was thrilled Static was a part of the,, even if it was out of his usual element and origins. Hell, I'm still surprised that even though they were very secondary Icon and Rocket were in the show.

EDIT: [up] I wouldn't know, I have tried my very hardest to pretend that the New 52 isn't a thing.

I feel like a show starring Tim but featuring Dick heavily as a Big Brother Mentor would work pretty well, since it would show off both how well Dick grew into his own as Nightwing and how valuable his experience would be to Tim.

I finally watched season 1, but season 2 isn't on Netflix for some silly reason. It was a really enjoyable show, some great twists and fantastic art direction. Though I kind of find it funny how Superboy gets his shirt wrecked so much.

I was rather bugged in the end at the forced shipping, particularly Aqualad and hoodchick or whatever her name is which reeked of Token Shipping and felt really lame. Would've been better off having him and Speedyor psuedo Speedy shipped off together LOL, would've been more believable TBH as the bromance between those two was there from the start. Like this chick literally just pops out a few episodes before and is all AW YEAH DAT AQUALAD two episodes later, man screw that noise, he doesn't even seem remotely interested in her before.

While young Justice did a terrible job with the Batman villains(ugh worst Joker ever) they turned Sportsmaster into a total badass and finally we got Cheshire done justice in animated form.

Well, Joker has had plenty of opportunities to be fair. I agree this was his weakest showing ever, but at least others had a good show.

As for Aqualad and Rocket, that was just a spur of the moment thing on her part (everyone else was kissing someone and she didn't want to be left out). There's no Token Shipping going on with them.

They don't end up with each other then? Idk, I didn't like her popping up so suddenly especially since she's relatively unknown.

Aqualad being without a mate does stick out though. I guess Rockett was the only other chick but TBH him and Speedy could've worked. That arrow to the heart line was a pretty touching line and almost leads me to believe the developers almost were going to go there but ended up not. Him being bi could've made him slightly more interesting too.

I agree that Rocket's introduction was a little sudden. She and Icon probably should have gotten an episode to establish them beforehand.

...I feel like it was confirmed somewhere that Aqualad was bi. Am I imagining this?

I suppose it should be noted that that sort of thing would be practically impossible to do when the show was airing. Nowadays...a little more plausible, but still difficult.

I don't know if I'd support Speedy/Aqualad, or Speedy/anyone, because Speedy is an asshole. Seriously, they never made me believe in Aqualad and Kid Flash's close friendship with Red Arrow. They frequently bring up how he's their closest friend, but every time he appears he's just being this arrogant, abrasive dickhead with nary a single friendly moment.

Granted, I might support Kid Flash/Speedy in a "you two deserve each other" kind of way.
