The search didn't reveal any results so I guess this will be the thread for it now.

So the same team that made ICO and Shadow of The Colossus are working on their first PS 3 game, The Last Guardian.

A game about a boy and his giant, yet vulnerable, griffin-thingy presumably trying to escape a giant fortress-like place. Their obstacles being a group of knights patrolling and the fact that the place itself is in ruins(your companion can't fly so platforming and puzzle solving will be involved). From the looks of it, it'll play more like the former of the two previously mentioned games, but with less combat(probably less having to protect your companion too, for obvious reasons).

So yeah, here's the TGS trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lYc9OlELt4

Day one purchase. And this is the last time I am going to contribute to a discussion on this game. Here's me not wanting to have the end spoiled...even if I already know.

Maaan, I don't have a PS 3 yet. But I need this game. But I don't have a PS 3 yet. Hrrrrrnnngggg...!

Oh, Team ICO. Whip my soul until it bleeds saline. I wouldn't have it any other way.

This is the main reason I bought a PS 3. (Not that I haven't enjoyed it in the meantime, of course.)

Let me propose the ludicrous theory that neither the boy nor the griffin dies, despite Team ICO's long history of killing off their protagonists.  *

I'unno, by my standards, Wander was good as dead. Reincarnated or whatever, but still, he wasn't what he was, and that counts in my book.

And the theory that one or both dies is less based on Team ICO's history and, well, the TROPE's history.

Fair enough. (Though I've always seen the idea based off the team's history, and the other half of the team's output has an unambiguously happy ending.)

Sad that I need to wait more than a year for this, but at least they're releasing HD versions of their other games sooner.

Wander was pretty badass in the end, if you think about it.

Anywhere else, fate would've said "Haha, no." to the whole resurrection scheme. But in the end Wander "won". He brought the girl back to life, and she didn't even come back wrong. And the horse lived, too.

You know, this reminds me that I really should beat Shadow of the Colossus. One of these days...

Though I can already tell I'm getting this one on day one. Torico is just so...cute. D: And I know that that's going to be part of why however this ends will hurt me.

Early in development, the main character in The Last Guardian was female, but the team ended up going with a boy. The reason: they thought it would be more realistic that he would have enough grip strength to be able to climb around, and because they wouldn't have to worry about camera angles with a girl who wears a skirt.

I don't see what the big deal is.

^ At the age that the protagonist of The Last Guardian is supposed to be, there's no significant difference in grip strength before a male and a female. And the skirt justification is frankly idiotic. Seriously, I have nothing against male protagonists, and I don't mind the fact that the game has a male protagonist, but those are just.. shitty reasons.

You honestly don't think there are some people who'd try to get an upskirt view of a little girl? Are you new to the internet?

I doubt they'd stop at just having the griffin die. I say they're going for the Old Yeller ending. You have to leave it to die at the second last level, and the last you go on alone, having flashbacks to everything you did with it, and hearing its mournful wails as it waits for you to come back and help it, but you never will.....until it hears the stone doors closingl, and it lets out a high pithed shriek, as it knows you're leaving, and it will be all alone.....

^ Easy solution: don't give the protagonist a skirt.

I'm still holding out hope the game will end at least somewhat happy. Ico and Yorda survived, Mono and Agro survived and Wander maybe kinda-sorta did.

Maybe Trico will get to eat Emon.

We need a crowner for this. "Who dies?"

Yeah, the implication that if you have a female character, she MUST wear a skirt, is funny on a Wall Banger level. Only magnified by the grip strength crap.

Well, maybe someone could argue that girl with a skirt would fit more the setting? Nevertheless, that makes me sad D=

Aka, if I would knew Japanese and developers email, I would send email despite of its futility xD

I'm still unsure if the skirt bit was serious or in jest. Either way, he could have kept it to himself. No one really was complaining about sexism before he said that.

That said, it's a pity that I most probably won't play this game (no, it's not like I will boycott it or anything like that, I simply don't own a PS 3).

The really funny thing is that, just yesterday, I was complaining to a coworker about the Silent Hill movie turning Harry Mason into a woman for precisely opposite and no less stupid reasons; Word of God saying that it wasn't believable for a father to go through all that for his child, instead of a mother.

Coming in this morning and seeing this made me [lol] at the juxtaposition.

Another producer flees Team Ico.

Back in August, SCE Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said of The Last Guardian, "It's been very difficult in terms of seeing the progress: not as fast as we'd been hoping for, and the team has been under big pressure." Those words are growing increasingly ominous.
