Tell me, how many different ways will I be fucked to Sunday by the difficulty in this fine experience?

Well, there's the usual Early Game Hell, especially in the Triangulum Arc if you're not doing it on a New Game Plus. Unlike the first Devil Survivor all the bosses have much more blatant gimmicks as well so you'll need to be more specialized in turn.

Specialize? I usually do that in coordination to the skillset/weakness of bosses in IV, but from what you say, I imagine the gimmicks will be more than just elemental?

Yeah, like one tries to poison the field, others have multiple forms and bodies, another moves fast enough and has enough range to completely decimate your team if you go in without any sort of strategy, etc. There are more missions with secondary objectives too.

I'm playing Overclocked right now.

A piece on the connection between Asuras, Ahura Mazda, the demon king Virochana, and the Buddha Vairocana. Basically, while there are some rather vague etymological connections it's a lot more tenuous than Atlus wants you to think.

Because SMT does take some liberal choices when it comes to demons and mythology. That's why it's Ishtar that's usually used for Astaroth and not her similar counterpart Astarte that Astaroth actually comes from.

When is a Porewit not a Porewit?

Navarre uses a ceremonial sword to cut down demon walls. The fact that you need a Samurais ghost to do it makes me question how human the people of Mikado really are since only people with supernatural powers can summon demons to begin with, yet Navarre is needed to cut them down.

Also battle against Sukuna-Hikona.

Is that a wild Makara I spy? Interesting.

Ah that's right it is. I guess this means they will have demons normally Light-aligned as random encounters.

Edit: I'm guessing Ami Koshimizu is a fan of IV, because she's appearing in the next stream again and will be cosplaying as "That" demon in the Twitter campaign.

So it seems there's some demons for whom very little information is available on in in English, if any, leading some to question whether the names were translated correctly or if the being actually exists in mythology at all. According to Eirikr on tumblr, they include...

• Porewit (whose probably real identity I posted above)
• Moh Shuvuu
• Tenong Cut
• Rolwoy
• Cunhur
• Stonka

Kaneko apparently pulled a lot of minor demons out of Japanese books on mythical critters and judging by the Porewit example there seems to be at least some cross-contamination with entirely fictional creations. I have no idea if Kaneko even knew this.

Hah, I ran into Matador in Strange Journey today, had an Oh, Crap! reaction, then realized that this wasn't IV with it's 1/268 Fiend spawn chance and that he was only Lv. 30 vs. my Lv. 34. I beat him easily.

Interesting

Eridanus complete. I somehow managed to stumble through the teleport maze without a guide, but then had to do the whole thing over again because I forgot to find the hidden door that lets you into the pitfall area. Whatever, it's behind me now and I've completely mapped out the first floor so I never have to do that again.

Ouroboros's first form wasn't too bad, but Jesus Christ her second form was a real bitch with Wave of Death and her Disaster Cycle spamming. I made absolutely no headway until I used a Long to Debilitate her three times. I have no idea how I managed to beat her on my very first playthrough before I'd really figured out Megami Tensei's buff/debuff game (doesn't help that I was coming off of Devil Survivor, which didn't have all that much in that department).

Second summary of Final Topics Translated.

Interesting that besides his own objective Dagda is pissed at YHVH for using his daughter as a pawn.

Nozomi finally confirmed as party member and Atlus no longer teasing us by acting like it might be her.
