Shin Megami Tensei Series

If YHVH is in the game I hope Doi doesn't stray too far from the big yellow head design. There's a certain Narm Charm there.

Apparently Doi is redrawing a number of the guest artist's contributions for Final. Thar first bit of promo art has Merkabah, SMT 4 Lucy and Medusa all done in his style.

I think this suggests Atlus will be pushing him further as Kaneko's replacement, and not experimenting with toku guests.

I'm not sure about him doing demons himself to be honest. I feel Doi does his best with these designs when he redraws them in his own style. It's why they work on the cover while ingame they just don't.

I'm really interested in this game's demon roster. IV vanilla had the biggest demon roster in the whole series so far (though I think one of the Devil Children games of all things was close); will this have even more?

He's pretty clearly trying to ape Kaneko's look to some extent on the demons, at any rate.

All the guest demons sucked in game, Minotaur excepted. If the designs are being unified the suckage should decrease at least somewhat.

If question mark head is Doi's work he's already wy ahead of the curb as far as designs go.

I disagree. While Minotaur certainly is the best, there are others that are decent. Koga Saburo, Astaroth, and Yaso Magatsuhi are preetty good as well with Yaso-magatsuhi being based on a statue his artist made.

Even Omoikane has a pretty good idea behind him compared to others (Humanoid Brain).

I at least like the logic behind Asmodeus - in demonology, Asmodeus is said to be a twisted hodgepodge of various animals, so in the game he's composed of bits and pieces of those animals in a more orderly, humanoid body plan.

I liked Asmodeus and Koga Saburo until I saw them in game and wound up hating them both. They're so hilariously overdesigned, even though I appreciate the thought that went into them that doesn't mean I like the results.

Omoikane never looks good, here or as a brain.

Yaso Magatsuhi is an intereting case in that the design is actually terrible but winds up okay because of how it's rendered.

Astatoth I'll give you, liked that one. Oh, and Yamato Takeru was the only of the Kamen Rider knock offs that was good, pity he was bland and forgetable in game.

Astaroth, Yamato Takeru, Omoikane and Kuebiko I actually thought were Kaneko at first.

I personally liked all the guest designs, even if some of them were hilariously overdesigned (I'm looking at you, Sanat), except maybe Lucifer's first form, and I don't even hate that one, I just find it a bit funny since it makes the Morning Star look like one of The Greys.

My personal favorite guest designs are Masakado's full form, Michael, and Chemtrail.

Apparently that's an outfit and not his skin he's wearing.

I remember hearing that too. What could've possessed the Morning Star to dress up like an extraterrestrial that took dressing lessons from David Bowie?

Now you reminded me how Walter wears a black leather outfit in Demonic Gene.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say the Navarre-looking creature probably won't be a combat demon, but he'd manage some additional function like Nemechi does.

Or maybe he's that game's version of Burroughs.

I hope he's not that game's version of Burroughs. Then again, if done well...

Navacchi is going to handle streetpass duties like Nemechi before him.

That Navarre-esque creature learn all the Megido line in the level 10. Also has Pierce.

SMTIV:Final is currently 90% complete.

... I am oddly pleased with this.

As long as they make the map easier to navigate I'll happily buy it. And Navarre? Really? I was happy when that elitist prick vanished from the story, I can only hope he's not as bad this time around.

I actually thought he was an interesting story element. Hate Sink for sure, but he provided more of an insight into Mikado than anyone else. Not only did he represent the schism between Luxuror and Casualry, but he was also interesting in that becoming a Samurai was actually a step down for him.

I wonder what stupid thing he did in Tokyo that got him killed. Though it appears being dead helped him regain his sanity.
