The World Ends With You

Having just got this, please tell me the rest gets better. The combat improved a lot from the initial blandness upon obtaining the third pin slot and seems quite fun so far.

The story on the other hand:So far Neko is not just unlikeable to me, but actually disliked. I think attempting to force choke (Something I can't figure out how to do in battle) a girl because someone who just tried to kill you told you to do so (because you entered blindly into an agreement with someone who just tried to kill you) with very flimsy reasoning puts you from "unlikeable" to "dislike". Please tell me he does something major to make up for it.

How many more times does this "kill all the noise to open the wall/uncurse the statue/heal the guy" happen?

Character Development happens, yeah. And Broken Bridge is pretty common in RPGs in general. >_> The missions do get more interesting as you go along though.

Yes, he does get better, and I think his later actions make up for it. It's a major part of his character development that he opens up and comes to accept people. He goes from someone who would kill someone who has been helpful and friendly to him to (ending spoiler) someone who won't even kill the man who killed and used him in a twisted game with Shibuya at stake.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

I think it's a great game. It definitely gets better. I thought it was boring at first, but that changes and there's excellent character development.

Wow, you just figured out he's inhuman? You didn't get the clue when he attempted to force choke you?

Why does this remind me of every chick with an abusive boyfriend/husband?

The Character Development arc for Neku is actually pretty great. It's almost as big an improvement over his original personality as Simon's. And even if you never come to like Neku, you need to at least stick around long enough to see the glory of Sho Minamimoto.

And honestly, even though I wanted to wring his neck every single time he spoke, Joshua. He was the fun type of obnoxious, if you'll take my meaning.

Wait, the abusive spouse thing was intended?!

@Shadowtext I don't recall Simon ever attempting to kill someone on his side.

I think Shadowtext meant that the change in personality was just as great.

I meant that you need to get farther so that you can understand Shiki more.

Oh, god, I LOVE this game. Seriously, no one ever dare badmouth this game in within my sphere of influence, for the sake of not making your docter any richer then he needs to be.

Yes, the game gets better. As soon as you get the hang of the battle system, and go through at least the initial stages of the story, you will be entertained.

Honestly, can't Square Enix/Jupiter please stop with all those Final Fantasies/Kingdom Hearts, and start working on a Sequel or Spiritual Sucessor for this one?

This. The world needs more games that take chances with new kinds of gameplay like The World Ends With You and Okami. And games that defy genre cliches, either by embracing them and making them fun like Skies Of Arcadia or by providing something fresh like The World Ends With You and Wild ARMs 3.

Quite so.

Or alternatively, they could take one of those series in a brand new direction. I mean, who's to say a Final Fantasy can't take place in the modern world?

*thinks of own ideas for games*

^You are correct but still, annoying. And TWEWY wasn't exactly a flop.

The combat system and I are not friends. Otherwise, good game.

Admittedly, Neku pissed me off when he tried to kill Shiki. He got better later on and I kinda forgave him, but that was still a dick move.

Joshua is my favorite character. He reminds me of me if I was God. wink

i loved this game. joshua, however annoying he was to controll well in combat, was awesome.

as is sho. this is the only game where i actually tried to get 100% completion with. i failed, but still...

the invisible walls where you had to answer a quiz, or the ones where you had to make a brand popular, they were god damn annoying tho, especially since the benefits of using a brand or whatever were never noticeable, like at all.

also, another day was hilarious

I like twewy, like it a lot. Sure, it did a lot of damage to my DS touchscreen, probably more than all three Elite Beat Agent games together, but it's very satisfying to play. What story is considered... well, I think it's fairly good, gets better In the second week and onwards but... well, I don't quite know, there's something that keeps me from marking it down as the best of Videogame Storytelling, but it's been a while, so I can't quite remember what it was... heh . Oh, and the ending is kinda weird, but I'm not counting that against it, that's a tried and true JRPG tradition. I'm fairly fond of Joshua, though Jesus Beams FTW

Neither TWEWY nor Okami did badly at all. Okami at least has spawned a sequel (quite literally, it appears).

My understanding was the PS 2 Okami had fairly poor sales, but was critically acclaimed. I don't know how the Wii port fared.

As far as I know, TWEWY did fairly well on the DS. Nothing record-breaking, but great succes among the experienced gamers.

Okami, however, was mostly a flop. The reason that it spawned a sequel is because the first game gained a reputation for being 'Best game you never played'. Capcom is probably guessing that people will buy it this time around.

If the Wii port flopped I don't think there'd be a sequel.

There is already a sequel in the making. It's called Okamiden (I believe), and it's coming to the DS.
