A Game of Gods: A Multiversal Challenge

The Strider combating the Dullahan stumbled, but compensated and swung its leg like a club at the headless armor.

Gordon blinked when he suddenly saw everything slow down around him. He realized how much faster he must be moving for it to be like this... and thus took advantage of it and blasted the nearest remaining Hunter with his shotgun.

Vezon would suddenly find himself safely on the ground. "You could've gotten really hurt, Mister Vezon."

Blink was looking at him, holding his cape. "You're too fun to have around for that!"

Lux had stayed behind cover as the melee combatants charged into battle. She too was best for support, but this situation was not appropriate for her abilities. Both enemies and allies were more or less pinned down due to the narrow terrain they occupied, slows and snares would not be effective.

It did however provide an excellent opportunity for the area effects.

Lux stood and threw off a Lucent Singularity towards the middle of the dwindling formation. Light bent inward towards the center of the field, and Lux detonated it. As well as being generally harmful this added another effect; damaged targets were painted with Illuminate, and glowed brightly. Lux fired off a medium-powered laser towards one of the so-affected Striders, which created a decent secondary explosion upon contact. She ducked back behind cover, angered she didn't modify the end of her staff still useful for focusing with another crystal; if she could charge that she wouldn't need to be dangerously exposed to fire her more powerful attacks.

It was happening again. Just like on Reach, Hope had suffered fairly major injury whilst using the wrong sort of magic to do anything about it. Only here, instead of third degree burns to the shoulder it was a severe laceration to the lower back. And again, he'd been lucky; any further forward and it would either have severed his spine or gotten lodged inside. He tried desperately to call out his own Cure magic, but passed out from blood loss just as his brand started to glow green; as a result it faded back to looking like a tattoo hidden under the orange scarf tied round his wrist.

-The Dullahan parries the blow with his sword, then strikes out again.-

Suddenly a flechette sticks deeply into The Doctor's back. "Oh no..."

It explodes disintegrating the Doc.

He looks around. "And now I'm back in the Common Room. Wow they brought me back from an explosion... impressive..."

Jack, seeing Vezon blink out of existence, took his sword in hand again and then ducked as Luxanna's attack detonated uncomfortably close to him. As the light died away somewhat, he saw that their enemies were few and getting fewer. With that in mind, he headed for one of the remaining Striders, meaning to end this fight. This time he didn't try any fancy maneuver, he simply came at it from the side and above, swinging his sword in a double-handed slash meant to cut it in half, releasing another kiai shout.

"Damn it!"

Kimimaro saw the Doctor get blown to bits, and he also saw Hope go down. It was too late for the older man, but Kimimaro flash-stepped out, stopping beside Hope. He picked up the unconscious, bleeding boy and quickly dashed behind cover, leaning Hope against a wall.

"Do any of you have medical kits?" he shouted to the others.

Red Mage continued to survey the field, none having gotten back to his postion as the others went forward to fight. I wonder if these monsters are used to fighting against magic-users. Support is the first thing you want to kill.

Red Mage looked about, and saw one person who had fallen in combat, nasty wounds to the back. He seemed to be trying to move.. "Damn! Come back to the world of the living." Red Mage pulled out his sword and made several gestures with his right hand while his left hand held it in front of his face. "Life!" Red Mage thrust his sword into the air. An Angel seemed to appear and come down from the sky with a faded version of Hope's body, placing it in there and restoring his body back to working, if rough condition.

"HEY! Take this Potion!" Red Mage reached behind him in his cloak, and threw an X-Potion down to Hope.

Kimimaro administered the X-Potion to Hope, and then stood up, a determined and angry look on his face. He concentrated, holding out his left arm. Soon bone began to grow, eventually enveloping the arm from the elbow down, forming a huge drill. He leapt high, using the sides of buildings as springboards, until he was above a Strider. He dropped down toward it, his bone-drill vibrating to simulate drilling.

"Tessenka no Mai: Hana!"

Vezon blinked as he reassociated himself with his surroundings, then turned to face Blink. "That's quite possibly the first genuine compliment I've had since becoming Vezon. I feel all warm and fuzzy now..." He very quickly hugged Blink. "Hokay! Let's kill some aliens!" He cried, charging blindly forward.

The various attacks hit, doing a number on the remaining Striders. The last Hunter had long since fallen dead.

Gordon continued to take advantage of his increased speed and hit another Strider with a rocket. The synth, damaged heavily already, toppled to the side and over the edge, dead before it even fell.

"There's just a couple more, and they're crippled! Take 'em out!"

Kmimaro, having literally punched clean through a Strider from top to bottom with his attack, turned his bone-drill to another Strider, aiming to punch/drill a big hole through its leg.

Hope jerked back into conciousness, coughing up a string of blood. Red Mage's magic had healed the laceration and replaced the two pints of blood that he had lost through it.

(OOC: Yes, that's a guess, albeit a barely educated one; it takes 40% blood loss for circulatory shock like that to kick in. Although why I'm trying to apply real medicine to a fictional character is beyond me.)

"Tactic Number Two!" Vezon stopped dead in his tracks and flung his spear, like a javelin, at the face of a strider.

"...that was a STUPID IDEA! STUPID!"

Bowser leaped out from behind his protection and was charging toward the remaining Striders.

Jack took Gordon at his word and unleashed what he hoped would be the final attack of this battle.

Having forced his target to kneel after taking out its leg, Kimimaro rammed his drill into the Strider's main body, and willed his bone drill to fragment explosively inside the biomech, pulling his arm free of the about-to-detonate weapon and using his superior speed to flash-step away, just in case the Strider decided to explode upon death.

Red Mage Jumped and ran forward towards the others. "Alright, lets try not to die this time! Protera! " Red Mage put his hand up in the area and centered his magic on Hope. All those (allies only) within a large area around Hope, now including Red Mage as he got in range, would be blessed with a magical protective aura shield around their entire body immediately above the skin. The shield wouldn't block all incoming damage, but it should serve to ward off some. Those affected faintly glow a slowly pulsing yellow.

"Mason? Got any heavy artillery with you?!"

Spriggan shouted, scoping the Striders and Hunters previously after entering the Combine world. He had no heavy weapons he can use to fight back against them previously.

The final Strider collapsed, dead. The walkway was filled with corpses of dead synths.

"Fuck..." Gordon panted. "Holy shit... alright, if that's any indication of what's to come, we need to move now."

He started to scan the area, and spotted a gap between two buildings, which the paths led into. "Alright people, move! I'll explain when we're safe!"

He sprinted for the alleyway.

Rey slid into cover, panting slightly, the glow in his eyes fading as he watched the others, chewing his lip nervously, before getting to his feet and following after Gordon. He chuckled faintly as he thought of something, a definite smartass tone to his voice. "Don't forget to reload, Gordon..."

Kimimaro ran for the alleyway, hanging back to make sure Hope was okay.

Jack nodded in agreement, flicking alien bodily fluids off his sword and sheathing it.

"Do as he says!" he shouted, gesturing for the group to follow Gordon. "No one will be left behind!"

As Bowser was the nearest to the allyway when the last Strider fell, he was also the first to enter it.

"Move! Move!"

Spriggan went to conduct rearguard duties, making sure the group can survive.
