Interesting take on it. I'd argue that Harry is (on average) less screwed up than Shinji, but there are certainly parallels. Wonder if Butcher's a fan?

No, he's definitely less fucked up then Shinji. Then again it's hard to find anyone even CLOSE to as messed up as that kid is.

No, he's literally punched an Outsider, but not sure about actual angels.

Probably the most screwed up character in the series thus far is Molly. Direct all Shinji comparisons to her, I think.

Even she is no where near that bad. Closer then anyone else yes, but still not to Shinji levels.

Shinji is messed up, but he never really does anything about it.

It's why I can't stand him. Yeah yeah, he's depressed, so am I. You don't sit around complaining about your problems, you do something about it to make things better.

Never seen NGE. Heard good things about it, but I'm not too drawn to PTSD'd protagonists.

That does not jive with you being an Attack on Titan fan.

These characters look at people that only have PTSD with ENVY!

I've only seen five episodes and I'm inclined to agree.

But then I find something especially gross and awful and gut wrenching about bein eaten alive so maybe I'm just projecting my terror on them.

Harry has also "seen things." You know, he should probably be more shell shocked. Dude's got an iron will or something.

Okay, I expressed myself badly. I like it when characters get put through hell and come out harder out the other side. Well, Harry does at least, Eren's just nuts, but he's at least awesome in his insanity. Shinji, as far as I hear, is just... I don't wanna say whiny, but I prefer a character that'll go down swinging and roast marshmallows on the cinders of the world, than one who'll find himself a nice secluded corner to spend Armageddon in the fetal position. I know it's more realistic, but I don't choose my fiction based on its realism.

That's a....deep mis-characterization of Shinji. (The fans complain about him being whinny and weak, but in reality all he ever does is react realistically to intense psychological trauma. However he is a elite pilot of the world's most dangerous weapon, and though he starts of shaky, he's damn good at it.)

....Are we so starved for new material that we are discussing NGE here?

Like I said, I haven't seen NGE at all. And I wasn't talking about Shinji, specifically, rather that type of character. Though if you want to enlighten me, by all means. Oh, and don't worry about off-topicness. It's standard fare for update-less works. Ain't that right, Mousa?

According to Butcher Homepage his brother in law had an accident with a grizzly (and not a chainsaw, no sir.)

So they started a crowd fund to cover medical bills, which included (at 3500 dollar) a signed eARC for Skin Game...

It might just be because it's two in the morning and I'm bored out of my skull but I had an interesting idea for a Fanfiction.

Harry, as is due, travels backwards in time through some accident of plot and ends up in the 60s-70s, where he runs into his mother, who is on the run from Lord Raith and the Wardens alike with Todler!Thomas in tow. After a brief misunderstanding (where Harry gets shoot in the leg while Margret is under the impression his a Raith hitter.) Harry must then team up with her in order to deal with the threat that sent him back in time in the first place, Raith's assassins/minions that are trying kill her or take back Thomas (mostly out of spite), without getting caught by the Wardens in the middle of a Law Six violation.

Oh, and she doesn't know he's her son. Which is awkward given that 60s-70s Margret is a gin swilling, trigger happy, wildly snarky, no-nonsense, ass kicker who's driving would make insurance companies crap their pants if it wasn't a stolen car.

Harry always did want to meet his mother.

(I'm not sure if this counts as nutty enough to be a crack idea....But I really would like to see a still-young-and-deadly Margret teaming up with her son- with her ignorant of their connection.)

Well, given what we know of the era, for once we know Maggie left Thomas behind when she fled Lord Raith and second, I don't get the feeling she'd be all that chipper during that time. More in a self-destructive and dark spiral.

But thats just me :P

Canon constraints aside, that's not a bad idea at all.
