Heartwarming or sad. Either will do, though for some reason or another I'm leaning in favor of "sad". I'm not a big fan of romance, so. >.>

Haibane Renmei and Serial Experiments Lain can really tug at you. The later episodes especially.
Anything Ghibli but Grave Of The Fire Flies is a very good bet for such things.
Apollos Song by Osamu Tezuka.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahWell, seeing as the obvious rec's already been mentioned twice, there's also Bokurano. Mohiro Kitoh is a bitter, bitter man.
Also, if you're up for manga and have even the slightest interest in Astro Boy, Pluto. The tears share the arena with noir (the genre, not the anime) and mystery, but damn if it hasn't succeeded in making me cry.

Naru Taru. And yes, Mohro Kitoh is a bitter, bitter man.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntThanks for the suggestions. ^^ I'll go with Grave of the Fireflies.
@Madass: I'd recommend FLAG for anyone who enjoys Real Robot style mech series. Also, the UC Gundam series (Mobile Suit Gundam, 0080, 0083, Zeta, 08th MS Team, and so on. Gundam Wing, Gundam X, Turn A Gundam, Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, and some I may be missing aren't part of the UC canon, and I generally found them to be lower quality) are definitely worth watching as well.

Two requests for me:
- A well-animated, action-packed shonen series.
- A rom-com. Decent Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming-count if possible. Preferably recent-ish, because that makes it easier for me to find a decent-quality version. Also preferably not a Key Visual Arts adaptation, since the artstyle for those things creeps out and annoys me.
Seen B Gata H Kei?
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntYep, and enjoyed it. Looking for a bit less of a Gag Series, though - I don't object to those per se, but they aren't what I'm looking for specifically with this request.
Oh, and as for the first request - yes, I have seen Gurren Lagann. Just so we're clear on that.

What's precedent ever done for us?rom-com : Kimi Ni Todoke ?
Hrm - I should probably give that a go. Is there, y'know, any sort of resolution to it, though? I'm afraid I get irritated if these things drag on too long with the misunderstandings and the mixed messages and the characters dancing around each other and nothing else to occupy my interest (hello, Lovely Complex).
On the other hand, I ended up very much enjoying Toradora by the end, despite my initial disinterest. Which is probably going to make half the board try to murder me over the Internet, but yeah.
I also liked the 2005 version of Ah My Goddess, which was why I asked for this recommendation, in fact - if possible, I'm looking for the sort of show that'd plaster a happy, contented grin across my face in the same way that one did.

What's precedent ever done for us?Kimi Ni Todoke doesen't really have a satisfying ending, but OTOH it doesen't really *need* one. It's really not a very plotty series at all.
Hmmm, how much "com" do you need anyway? Does it have to be actually FUNNY or is it sufficient with a happy ending?
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntThe 'com', to be honest, is not particularly important, but it should be present in some form - i.e., the show shouldn't be completely po-faced.
If Todoke doesn't really need a resolution, I might look at it. Neither did AMG, as it turned out.

What's precedent ever done for us?You know, I've ben watching a ton of romantic anime (comedic or otherwise, I pretty much watch what I can get) but I can't really name any, an it's frustrating :p
Still, it's notable that my favourite love stories aren't in the rom-com or even straight romance genre (That would be Rah Xephon and Planetes if you're wondering)
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntThe "resolution" that Kimi Ni Todoke offers, despite not actually being a They Do sort of thing, offers a pretty solid conclusion to what happens in the series, as well as a Sequel Hook which I'm hoping gets... hooked.
And there is quite a bit more humor than you'd expect. Pin in particular is a comedy gold mine.
But yeah, if you're looking for something that can plaster a happy, contented grin on your face, as you said, Kimi Ni Todoke definitely can provide that.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone. On the shonen side we have Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood is the more actiony of the two, although the pacing at the beginning is off due to the fact that the creators know they're just covering things everyone's seen in the first anime), Heroman and Soul Eater — Studio Bones knows how to make things shiny. It's their shtick. There's also Production IG's Sengoku Basara. Exactly what you should expect from Sengoku Basara can be summed up in the fact that Masamune's horse is a mororbike and Iyeyasu's right hand man is a giant robot.
For Seinen we have Black Lagoon.
Watched all of those. I've been on a bit of a Bones binge lately. With good reason.
EDIT: Just checked the page. They're doing a Super Robot series later this year? GIMME.

What's precedent ever done for us?Kimi Ni Todoke gets the nod from me as well. It has LOGIC.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.I'm an environmentally-friendly poster,so I decided to reuse one of my old recommendations:
It's reminiscent of Mushishi, what with all the mysterious little creatures floating by, but there's all the other stuff randomly chucked in - the stripperiffic grad student who uses a whip, Those Two Guys and the professor who enjoys inflicting Foreign Queasine on his charges, the squick - that makes me wonder what the main focus is going to be. Drama over fighting for his unique power? Slice of Life? Whatever, I'm intrigued.

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. For the rom-com I suggest The Wallflower. It leans more heavily on the comedy side than romantic side, but it definitely has its Crowning Momentsof Heartwarming.
Action-packed shonen series... you might like Nurarihyon No Mago. The manga is great, but I'm not sure if the series has started airing yet.
To whoever rec-ed Gunjo: Holy SHIT. Thank you so much for recommending this! To be honest I've just about given up on finding non-generic yuri manga and ho.ly. SHIT.
"All I had to say was I love you. And she killed my piece of shit husband for me. Stupid lesbian."
Definitely not your typical yuri. Great art, great characters, fucked up protagonists, fucked up relationship, Fan Disservice... I do think this is one of the best yuri manga I've ever read. I love the maturity of the characters and the plotline. The emotional impact of the very first chapter left me reeling. It's just so good!
I'm looking for a series with some high desity WAFF, like Clannad density, I've seen the Key all shows, the specifics beyond that don't matter too much.
I'm just in the mood for WAFF, i've been watching too many dark series lately..
Suggestions please!
Seconding Kimi Ni Todoke. Sawako is adorable.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
What kind of Tear Jerker? Romantic? Sad? Heartwarming?
