The title card for "Astral Plane" has taken on a rather significant significance given the events of the last episode: http://kingofooo.tumblr.com/post/107851170609/astral-plane-title-card-designed-by-jillian
Finn was a comet in a previous life....
Hey, that's true.
So the Lich killed the dinosaurs, but it seems still like he arose from the bomb that was dropped at the beginning of the Mushroom Wars. I still like my theory that some world power in the pre-MW world had a paranormal weapons division, recovered traces of the Lich from where the deadly meteor fell (believed to be the Yucatan in Real Life) and used to to fashion a weapon, which when dropped on America (clear that Simon was from there and that Ooo is likely on the ruins of some part of the US) led to the birth of the Lich in a new form.
Still doesn't explain the giant chunk ripped out of the planet, but a piece of the puzzle is there.
...was this episode leaked at some point? I remember seeing it like a month ago.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Yes.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot. That could be, although it still doesn't explain how the last comet was related to the mushroom war. Those events are too big and too close together not to be connected somehow (A comet hits the earth every thousand years, and a new one is racing towards Ooo at this very moment; "Simon And Marcy" took place 996 years ago, and the war was clearly already over, that plus everyone who works on the show referring to Ooo has what has become of the earth "A thousand years after the apocalypse" points to the mushroom war happening almost at the exact same time a massive comet hit the earth, which would also explain the massive crater.)

Actually, regardless of any connection between the mushroom war and the comet, you're right. After reflecting on the version of history we get in "Finn the Human", the Lich, or what remained of him at that point, was harnessed into some sort of bomb, in order to be used in the war. Definitely.
Title card for "Gold Stars", which seems to indicate the episode will center around baby Lich, as opposed to a cameo:http://kingofooo.tumblr.com/post/108475899724/gold-stars-title-card-designed-by-seo-kim. Also, according to Wikibowbeforemepunyignorantmortals, "The Mountain" is going to air on February the fifth.
Dang, between PB and Finn finally fixing their relationship, the backstory of the ice crown, a comet headed towards Ooo, all the crazy deez that'll probably go down in "Astral Plane", another Lich episode, and Lemongrab going on a spiritual quest, 2015 is shaping up to be a friggin' real year for Adventure Time.
And we're finally going to meet Jermaine the Dog, aren't we?
Okay, holy cram: in "Finn The Human" (An episode that aired in 2012), as Farmworld Marceline is narrating how Simon saved the earth, was killed, and the crown froze the earth as it grieved for the death of its master, we see a shot of the earth, covered in ice...and a comet comes out of space, towards the earth, before swerving past it. THIS SHOW, MAN!!!
"Bufo then says that Finn has to use his magic to push a meteor away from the wizard school that has been approaching it for 847 years, he asks Finn to add his powers to the orb."
Or was it a comet?
"Show us the Galaxy Warp."It wasn't. If it was, there wouldn't be another one this soon.
I don't really know what to say, it was a cool episode for sure though.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Missed it.
Lesson learned: don't trust Comcast reminders.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. That whole episode was a metaphor for getting high, right?
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Interesting, but getting high isn't solving problems.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.So Ice King just massacred the whole Cloud Kingdom
Wow. I think the season finale can't be far off, not just because of the MASSIVE plot development at the end of the episode, but because they always save a handful of really, really great episodes for the end of the season, ramping up to the finale. The Cooler, The Pajama War, Evergreen, and now Astral Plane, right in a row, and all season highlights. I predict seven more episodes, tops.
A season is usually 26 episodes long. How far we into season 6?
Not that far, really...somewhere in the middle.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.The only info we have is that the season will be longer than 26 episodes but shorter than 52 (I.E. short than season five but longer than seasons 1-4). But seeing how plot-driven these past few eps have been, and how plot-driven the upcoming ones sound, I suspect that it'll be closer to 26. Like, maybe thirty. Thirty's a nice number.
I'm sure there's some disappointment that it wasn't the Lich behind this comet - I still enjoyed just about everything about "Astral Plane" that was there to be offered... But, something tells me I better not let my guard down here.
New Web Browser, same old Shokew.30 isn't round though. It has to be 39.
Signatures are for lamers. The lack of horns and the blue/white colouring should have been a dead giveaway. Note that the comet seen in "Evergreen" had flames shaped like the Lich's horns, and was green like the flames the Lich uses, as well as the radiation from the mushroom bomb.
While the idea that it's something caused by Martin makes this comet a bit less threatening, I'm still glad to see him back. I think he makes an interesting and enjoyably despicable antagonist of a different sort from the Lich, the Ice King or Lemongrab.

So, the Lich comet hit earth during Dinosaur times. Assuming that that impact destroyed the dinosaurs, there would have been many more "Normal" comets, like the other elementals referred to, in the centuries following; but only a handful in human history, and possibly none that were recorded or remembered by us in the 21st century. My theory: The last comet that hit the earth caused the start of a massive territory war or "Mushroom War" among the surviving peoples of earth. Their war awoke the Lich, who had been imprisoned in the ice of the North Pole(Simon said he bought the crown from a dock worker in northern Scandinavia; my guess is that Gunther's first and final blast of ice magic created the northern ice cap, blowing the Lich-Comet miles to the north and freezing a large part of the sea. He was able to take form using the fallout from the war, and began to slaughter humanity without prejudice. But other things had been awoken by the comet, including Billy, who pummeled him into the massive slab of amber where he was trapped for slightly less than another millennia, until the events of "Mortal Folly."
