I'd take a page from the anime and say that move tutors give pokemon in-depth training sessions until they eventually pick up the new attack.

T Ms and H Ms are DV Ds that instruct the trainer on how to perform this training on their own.

Thus, TMs have never been single-use only. Red, Gold, Ruby, and Diamond were just not careful in handling the discs. tongue

Perhaps TMs were mass produced and not made as well as HMs. Isshu then perfected the technology.

Or maybe there's something in the code that locks out the user after 1 use? Its actually a very devious way to artificially increase demand, forcing trainers to spend more of their money on T Ms. By the the time B&W rolls around, people have gotten fed up with it and the companies made T Ms reusable.

^ So you're saying that TMs have single use DRM?

It would actually make sense why TMs are multi use in Isshu, since it's a totally different country.

@ how machines in Pokemon Centers work:

Stem cells, lots and lots of stem cells...

@ TMs being usable once:

So does this mean that they were initially distributed on a DIVX-esque format where the discs became unusable after a certain period of time after being used?

I was actually going to write an article on the TMs /H Ms.

I do disagree about them just being instructions. With a TM you can teach a Radicate to breathe fire. That's a little beyond just an instructional video. The idea I had is that they stimulate vestigial/undeveloped parts of a Pokemon's body to allow them to use moves they normally would not be able to use naturally. HMs are a little different. It's not that say, the Fly HM teaches you're Fearow how to fly. It teaches your Fearow how to fly while carrying its trainer safely.

I saw an interesting piece of art on Deviantart that says that H Ms come with relevant equipment (such as a saddle for Fly and a pressurized cockpit for Dive) that are used when using the move outside of battle. Don't know if you want to use that, though.

Well, it would certainly explain how a ten-year-old child manages not only to hold his breath indefinitely, but also survive the crushing pressure of the ocean floor. The only real problem would be a matter of scale—a large Pokemon like a Gyarados or a Lapras would probably have no trouble carrying such a cockpit, but would a Squirtle?

So, I know there's already a Nincade line article, but I really dislike it; could I propose an alternative?

In particular, it attributes no advantage whatsoever to Shedinja's existence, which annoys me. My idea was that Shedinja protects a young Ninjask until the Ninjask's wings have dried out and its exoskeleton has fully hardened- during the immediate post-metamorphosis period, Ninjask is quite vulnerable to predators, so Shedinja protects it. That nicely explains why it has Wonder Guard; the ability improves the husk's defenses enough that it can take hits for its "master". After it becomes redundant, Shedinja ceases all activity and slowly rots away; in captivity, however, Shedinja never dies because it's always serving Ninjask's trainer. Hypothetically, were a fully-developed Ninjask to be released or die in captivity, its Shedinja would no longer have anything to do for it and die.

[up]That's something you'll have to take up with the person who wrote the article. We're all mature pokemen researchers(pokologists?) here, we can't simply force a fellow scientist to change their work.

So what have we got in the pipeline for this thing at the moment? And does anyone have any ideas or critiques that they want to throw out here at the moment?

Not certain; I suspect I need to run another indexing pass sometime, but I've been working on other projects lately.

I know Squirtle needs its' reworking finished, and Sentret could use buffing. I want to do another line myself sometime soon, but I don't see myself having time until November.

Well I have fixes pending for the Nido article as well as a full rework of the social structure, to make sure it makes sense. The Hoothoot article still has an empty childbearing section. No artwork for any of my entries except Zigzagoon yet. I'm still deciding between writing either the Glameow or the Lati@s entry. But all that will have to wait a little due to research and RL.

^Dunno... I personally chose the "former identity" approach, as after all a Shedinja is essentially the shell of the Nincada form (from which the Ninjask got out).  *

Two bodies being as one is pretty benevolent, if there's no second mind being overshadowed.

I thought that we established that Ghost pokemon were inter-dimensional beings that try to anchor themselves to our world by possessing objects? In that case wouldn't Shedinja be a spirit that possessed the shed shell of a Nincada?
