^ If you're really bugged that much by your entry, you could always go back and tweak it, we do use rolling updates (heck, just look at my articles, I've been changing them long after I was "finished" with them)...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...

@natu entry

while it is a good idea to warn trainers about faulty information, I don't really think we can call paranormal research a pseudoscience in a verse where we have genuine psychics and ghosts.

^ Touché.

I was thinking more about over the top Predictions of the future and that sort of stuff when i wrote that line. And besides, the Pokédex is written by very secientific people, the kind of people who believes there is a logical explanation for evrything rather than attributing it to "powers from beyond" and "Black Magic" like some paranormals would.

In the Pokémon world, "this species is a ghost from beyond" isn't quite so illogical. tongue

Nice work on the Xatu entry, it could probably use a bit of editing for coherency but the content is great.

And as for pseudoscience and paranormal freaks, even in a world full of mystical mumbo-jumbo that actually works, there's probably still a lot of people dealing with mystical mumbo-jumbo that doesn't work.

Does reading any of these entries make anyone else want one of the Pokemon in question? Xatu are cool. Oh, a few things you could add:

  • Xatu have been banned from pretty much every casino in the world. And the security are on guard for guests trying to get past in masks and robes.
  • While many Psychic types are favoured by human psychics, as their abilities tend to synchronise very well, Natu and Xatu are surprisingly unpopular choices. Allegedly, this is because linking to a Xatu's clairvoyance is not good for your mental health.

Also, I'll just go back and edit my Growlithe entry, I forgot that their species ratio is heavily skewed towards the males and that should reflect on their social structure.

Slakoth Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Slakoth [287]
  • Vigoroth [288]
  • Slaking [289]

Notable Biology

Slakoth is a tan- colored creature with brown stripes and rings around its eyes. Its paws, both the front and back, end in long, sharp claws. It is notable for being among the laziest creatures in existence; on the miraculous occasion you'd find one standing upright, it would measure anywhere between two and three feet tall.

Vigoroth are usually around five feet tall, white-furred beasts with an odd red crest on its black face, with a similarly colored mark on its paw. Its claws are now black, and become even more murderously sharp than as a Slakoth. These are used to fight off competition for mates. Unlike Slakoth and Slaking, Vigoroth are among the most active and energetic in existence. They do not sleep having spent their entire extstence thus far in a sort of suspended animation as a Slakoth. in the wild, the Vigoroth stage of development rarely lasts more than a few months.

Slaking are six-foot-long (as we cannot declare a creature that rarely stands to be "tall") Tan-colored behemoths. Their paws are now five-fingered, with claws that are slightly less sharp than Vigoroth's, and will be used for self-grooming more often than combat. They have outgrown their energetic Vigoroth state and have once again become lazy and barely move, except to find food (usually a few steps away, at most) or to battle.

Habitat

The Slakoth line lives in forests, where Food can be found in abundance lying on the ground. Some can be found among Bamboo or Coconut forests in tropical climes.''

Diet

''Slakoth and Slaking strictly herbivorous; they can't be bothered to chase down food. Vigoroth, on the other hand, are almost strictly carnivorous; they get bored with picking food from the trees.

Hazards

The obvious danger here is the claws. Vigoroth's speed can be tear apart enemies in moments. And slow as Slakoth and Slaking may be, they know how to use those claws when threatened. Other than that... If a Slaking chooses to sit on you, you might as well get used to it for the next seven hours or so. You deserve it for not moving out of the way. Thankfully, Slaking rarely weigh more than 250 pounds.

Courting and Childrearing

The main reason for the complete 180 degree personality change (twice) is that Slaking line is most fertile during its "teenage" years, and have adapted to be more active during that time. Vigoroth do not sleep, because they spend at least sixteen hours of every day copulating. The remaining 8 are spent consuming food so as to be ready for the next session. Usually, they will spend two hours in copulation, and then one hour eating in preparation for the next two hours. Courtship is almost nonexistent; it is simply a matter of "hurry up and get on, before I move to someone else." Copulation lasts for about five minutes, and then it's on to the next one. Any squabbles for mates are resolved by either comparing the sizes of claws for males, or the red crests for females.

Females are polyestrous: They can become pregnant and bear children for as many as seven males at once; gestation only lasts about two to three weeks, due to their high rate of metabolism. After a few days of rearing their young, they go back into the mating business. Male Slaking no longer mate, but a Male Vigoroth may be so inclined to mate with a female Slaking if there are not enough other Vigoroth around. In such a case, gestation lasts up to three months, after which time the baby Slakoth are given to a Vigoroth to care for.

Social Structure

Slakoth and its line live in huge colonies of up to 100 or more. Slakoth are raised by their mothers for the first few days, until they learn to find food for themselves. Other than sitting around and waiting for evolution, they do not do much except await sexual maturity. Once a Vigoroth evolves into Slaking, It guards the rest of the brood. Slaking often engage intruders in "Triple Battles," attacking and defending in turns against one foe. Vigoroth that are not mating will occasionally join the roster for guard duty. However, in the event that a large group of carnivorous Pokemon finds the colony, The Slaking will form a barrier with their bodies and stand to full height and attack with everything they have until overwhelmed so that the Vigoroth can carry off as many Slakoth as they can to safety. In such cases the "mating season" is extended and they start a colony all over again.

Trainer's Notes

Slakoth are docile enough to be recommended for use by first-time trainers. They are obedient and good-natured, posing no threat unless they themselves feel threatened or abused. Slakoth that are trained well enough show less lethargy than in the wild; still, they tend to need constant rest, even in battle. Furthermore, the exercise Slakoth get in Pokemon Battles has shown to decrease the excitable nature of the Vigoroth stage by a considerable degree. However, it is suggested that Trainers neuter their Vigoroth soon after evolution to prevent them from getting too excited during or after a battle. A properly trained Slaking is a loyal, lifelong companion. They are most protective of their trainers, and in battle, they will fight to the brink of exhaustion.

Wow, Vigoroths are a bunch of horny bastards, no wonder their colonies are so huge. Oh and I laughed at the "If a Slaking decides to sit on you" part.

EDIT: They could potentially lay waste to an ecosystem with their numbers. I hope for the sake of the rainforest something is predating on them.

I often wondered about the whole Lazy->Active->Lazy again thing, until someone on Just Bugs Me suggested it was a teenage thing. My mind just took things away from there. I took most of the Vigoroth stuff from Bonobos (who are the animal kingdom's answer to Anything That Moves)

EDIT: Notes about Predation taken into consideration.

The Slakoth entry is nice but the formatting looks a bit odd. Might want to go back and look at that, to match it up with the other entries.

And Tangent, might want to edit your OP with links to the latest bunch of entries, there's been quite a few in the last few pages.

Wait, the Vigoroth don't even stop screwing to defend the colony from attackers?

That's either incredibly stupid or incredibly awesome, and I'm leaning toward the latter.
