I doubt all "Steel" types are made of actual steel. Bronzor is probably some kind of blue-colored bronze, for example.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! That's what I'm saying. Besides, some steel-type pokemon are steel type because they have build-in swords, and I'm fairly certain swords can be made out a whole lot of stuff other than just plain old steel.
Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonI don't see why Lucario is Steel type.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Since 2 or 3 spikes makes you a Steel-type...
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! It's possible that metal in Pokemon is a highly complicated bio-steel with a low melting point.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!The only other explanation I can come up with is that those shoulder pads it has, the collar it has as a Riolu, and those 'Aura Sensors' on both of them are also made of some kind of metallic thingahoosit. That or its bones, which make no sense.

Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonMetal bones seems to be the best explanation, though Lucario is already Wesleyish enough without being Pokemon!Wolverine.
Maybe its fur has the consistency of steel wool?
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!Oh, lord, that must itch like you wouldn't believe; grooming them must be a pain in the ass.
The Danse Macabre CodexPerhaps? I guess from the RL standpoint its a steel-type because it's based on Anubis, and Egyptians are usually related to coffins and fake beards, which are metallic.
Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonFrom what I know about Anubis, that makes no freaking sense.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!I know. But that's just the idea got from a thought process. "Anubis = Egyptian God. Egypt = Coffins. Coffins = Metal".
Insane Troll Logic may be in effect here.

Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonAnubis would probably be a Dark and/or Ghost-type if nothing else.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.I think my mind is just making big assumptions here. I haven't had a chance to read up on Egyptian Mythology yet.
Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonApparently sarcofagi are only ghostly, though.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Thought: Steelix has a metal shield to defend it from heat, yes. But a focused Fire attack is going to hit a small area, probably penetrating that one area. And the internal defenses against heat may be far lower than normal.
(Enough heat will cause nuclear fusion, which changes the proton count. )
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?@Sullen: Actually Egyptian Sarcophagi are made of three shells, with the outermost being made of gold.
True but there isn't anything in nature short of stars that can do that. If Pokemon flames were that hot, then Magcargo's internal temperature may not be that farfetched...

Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!That may be so, but gold, as we all know, is really not that durable; if that is the reason for Lucario being considered a steel type, then it's a particularly flimsy one.
That seems reasonable.

The Danse Macabre CodexA quick peek at the Wikipedia Article for Anubis is that he's the god of the dead and by proxy also the god of mummification, since he was the first one to mummify someone, in this case Osiris (yet another god of death), who became the king of the netherworld. Long story short, Anubis is closely related to Sarcophagi, and thus closely related with stones and the gold that encompass them. It's also related to graveyards, meaning that they are closely connected to spirit and thus, auras.

Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonYes, but still a very flimsy reason for Lucario's typing.
I'm pretty sure that Luacrio is just pure Rule of Cool.

Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonFrom a biological standpoint, should we assume that Riolu and Lucario have an Extra-ore-dinary skeletal structure? Seeing as they have very solid-looking metal(lic) spikes popping out of a number of regions on their body...
Hard Boiled Detective Since 1985Again Pokemon!Wolverine natch.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!
Perhaps 'Steel-type' is but a shorthand for a pokemon with a metallic construct?
